Purchased it a few weeks ago, and have enjoyed great coffee every day. The espresso is on par with going to a local store. My wife loves having the option of getting a brewed cup of coffee too. The three buttons make it ridiculously easy to use.

I am truly surprised by the negative reviews. If I could give the machine more than 5 stars I would. I admit that for years one of my biggest and most expensive vices was drinking lattes. Every single morning and sometimes afternoons as well I made a trip into Starbucks to order one. This past Christmas season I got serious about researching espresso machines to purchase one for home. The Nespresso was a top contender as a pod machine choice, but I didn't like the fact that I could only order the pods online and there is a shipping charge each time. I was about to invest in a very expensive automatic machine (using ground espresso and a built in frother) when the Verismo came out. I am so glad I took a chance and tried the Verismo. I could not be happier with the machine (for literally a small fraction of the price I was about to invest!. After four months, I've never had a single issue with it. I love that I can pick up pods at Starbucks, at Bed Bath or order them online from the store with free shipping. The espresso pods are quality- they taste just like the espresso in the shop. Some complained about the cost of the pods, they are not cheap no, but no individually portioned coffee pod really is if compared to the cost of ground coffee bought in bulk. You are paying for the convenience of a pod. I am still spending much less than my previous daily habit and I have the unbeatable convenience of having the SAME coffee at home. To make the lattes, I do not use the milk pods. The ones sold currently are 2 % only. I prefer nonfat milk. Also I think there is no comparison to using fresh milk which is why I also purchased the Starbucks frother. Although the frother takes a few minutes to clean properly after each use, overall it is really effortless to use- add milk, push button, 90 seconds later perfectly frothed milk. This machine and the frother are amazing. Every time I've had a family member or friend over in the past few months I've made them a latte or coffee- the brewed is very good as well. A few of them have since purchased a machine for themselves! I

Worst Christmas Gift Ever!

I fell for the TV ads and the online ads that I could finally brew an incredible Starbucks Latte in my own home! Ahh, yeah, about 2 oz. for over a $1 per oz! Typical Starbucks! I could also brew coffee! Again, for a full cup, I guess I would have to spend at least $5 on those pods. My best friend bought me this expensive gift, and I am ashamed that I despise it so much! She bought me what I asked for! The fact that after 2 lame Lattes it moved from my counter to the closet of misfit toys says it all. Save yourself the money, time and embarassment. Buy a nice Kuerig and call it a day. If you just refuse to believe me, buy mine! I don't want it!

Got one of these because we really like Starbucks lattes and Starbucks stopped making discs for the Tassimo. That's where Starbucks made a mistake because the Tassimo machine is far better than this unit. Everything about the Tassimo is better in design and the sad part for Starbucks is, the Tassimo discs made by Starbucks are incredibly better tasting than their discs for their Verismo machine.
This unit is sloppy and cumbersome. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it's a guessing game. Our unit could have an issue because sometimes it doesn't respond to the buttons, either way it's likely going back for a refund.
Basically it just doesn't make good coffee or lattes. Take the advice of someone who's used theirs a few times, not just opened the box and tried it once. They appear to work great the 1st time. Whatever you do, be wary of anyone saying theirs is as good as what you get in Starbucks, that's absolutely wrong.

I was hesitant to ask for the Verismo for Christmas after reading several negative reviews, but I'm EXTREMELY happy I got one! After trying the machine out several times I have come to the conclusion that many negative reviews of the machine could be part to user error. It's not as simple as pushing one button if your making a Latte(you only have to press 2 buttons for this) but it's way more of a spohicated machine than a simple Keurig. I'm OBSESSED with my Verismo and telling everyone to purchase one. Please also note I was not a huge Starbucks fan before this, but they have my business now!

I bought this after debating on a Keurig. I LOVE using my coffee grinder to make Starbucks brewed coffe in my regular coffee pot, so I wasn't sure I would actually use the Keurig because it doesn't have the bold fresh taste of brewed coffee. I decided to go with this machine since I love Starbucks and thought the idea of lattes in my home sounded great. Used it this morning and I love it! I don't live near a Starbucks, so this works out great. I made a latte and thought it tasted great.
My concerns would be:
- I am not sure how the cleaning process is going to go. I was thinking of using it more on the weekends versus during my work week because I don't have time to clean that every day.
- it doesn't seem to make much (maybe more like a tall), so more pods means more money
- it does have more liquid leak out after you finish, so I just stuck an extra cup underneath to catch excess

Overall, I am happy with the purchase and plan to try making some cold frappuccinos using the shot of espresso.

The ONLY reason I bought this was to make Starbucks cappuccino at home. Starbucks ended their contract with Tassimo which I used to use. This machine is so cumbersome & time consuming. First you have to rinse water through machine BEFORE & AFTER each use. You lift a lever which dumps your pod into a holding tank. When you lift the lever, additional liquid spurts out. When you are finally finished with the process, you have to clean the holding tank and the holder under your cup because they both contain excess liquid. This machine is a HOT MESS literally! The engineers at Starbucks need to go back to the drawing board & start over. If I could have, I would have given no stars.

Traded in our Tasimo because Starbucks stopped making pods for it and what a disappointment.
First, the thing is fiddly to use....the pods drop into a section that is hard to remove without making a mess.
Second, the pods are so small you need about 6 of them to equal a typical grande (medium) sized drink and at least 2 to make a drink that makes any sense.
Third, the milk pods do not froth....making for a very tame latte and the overall taste is really not good.
The machine is expensive, expensive to use, and does not produce anything resembling a good coffee.
Silver lining is I bought the Starbucks milk frother which is fantastic and we are trading in this mess of a machine for a simple expresso maker.

Tried this machine during a demo at a starbucks. Milk capsule was odd tasting. Milk and a single shot of espresso extremely milky, left an odd film in the mouth. Straight shot of espresso was average. I have used Lavazza Espresso Point, CBTL, Nespresso... and all are far better, in taste, quality, and cost per capsule. Would NOT recommend the Versimo to anyone. CBTL is currently the most flexibility/best bang for the buck if you want a dual pump for coffee/espresso. Nespresso good and very smooth. Lavazza excellent, but you usually have to commit to bulk cartridge purchases. Also, don't discount ese espresso pods. Some excellent machines out there, the pods readily available online, and often a better flavor/crema than a cartridge. HOWEVER I get more consistency with a cartridge machine. Even though you're not tamping, there's more variation with a paper pod. Also, it's worth it to get a frother. I've used milk caps in both the Lavazza and CBTL. They're optimal at about a single shot of milk and work 'in a pinch' when I run out of milk or creamer. FYI - both those have a touch of sugar. I like unsweetened milk, but I think it helps in altering the taste of the reconsituted milk. You can't get the CBTL ones in the US (you can get the cocoa and milk cartridges in canada though.)

Received this as a birthday gift & love it! It's easy & fast! To brew & clean! Hit power button, check water level in reservoir, drop in pod, press button & presto! If you want latte add a new pod & press again. To clean press lift lever to drop pod & press button again, done. I'm a big time latte & cappuccino fan, and I have this and the milk frother. Rocks! So much faster than waiting in line @ coffee shop! Cheaper too! Enjoy!

This machine is way too fickle. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I just wasted 4 pods and still didn't get my cup of latte. I could have gone to Starbucks and bought one myself and it would have cost me the same.Starbucks needs to work on this technology. It is going back.Maybe in a year or so when they work out the kinks, I'll get another. I am stuck with my Tassimo for now,which has never given me issues, it just has awful coffee selections.
