Shark Rotator Vac-Or-Steam Works!

I clean houses for a living and for high end homes that are regularly maintained, this is a timesaver! Now, with that said, my home, which does NOT get cleaned on a regular basis,I needed several go rounds with the steamer to remove built up dirt and grime. But it does do a great job! DISTILLED water is a must if you want it to last! Vacuum is good but I use the Shark Pro lift away, which I love! Am buying a second Steamer for work!

I purchased this with my 20 percent off bed bath coupon. It offers great suction, super great cleaning and at a affordable price. I could Not believe the difference in my oriental rugs and carpets. This picks up everything and swivels to reach places, lifts off to carry to do steps, what a god send this was a spectacular price for a super vacuum. Better and cheaper than dyson. Glad I waited for this. This is a easy machine to operate. Highly recommend. Great for my hardwood floors also.
Thanks BBB for offering this great item.

LOVE this Product

Just purchsed the Shark Rotator Vac-Or-Steam in Feb 2013 and really, really like this product. My 10 year old Shark stick steamer quit working and I wanted another steamer product. I read lots of reviews and decided to try this Shark product. This vacuum and steamer is light weight and moves easily across carpet and bare floors. Love the longer electrical cord which is great and never tangles. The vac really picks up dirt, cat hair and even cat litter. I especially like that it picks up along the edges of my carpet, tile and laminate flooring. The vac and steam bases are easy to exchange and the dirt cup is also easy to empty. The steam vac portion has 3 settings-Dust, Mop and Scrub. I have laminate flooring so I have been using the Dust feature for a lighter steam and it works very well and leaves no streaks. I use the Scrub feature for my ceramic tile and it equally works well. I do wish that the rug slider piece used to steam carpets would have been included, but it is not. The steamer does come with two velcro mop heads. Will probably order a couple more. The only other complaint I would have is the short hose which is housed in a recessed area on the back of the unit. I tried using it with the crevice tool and kept tipping over the unit. Will probably not use this feature much and keep my larger vacuum with the longer hose and tools. Still giving a 5 Star rating!!

I really wanted a high quality vacuum and after reading several reviews on the Shark and Dyson, I went with this Shark. It is VERY IMPRESSIVE! I could not BELIEVE how much dirt and cat hair it picked up off my carpets! It is easy to assemble and very user friendly. I love the 25' cord, I can do several rooms at a time without plugging in again. I have a lot of tile in my house and the steamer was also incredible and easy to use. Very happy with my purchase, I finally feel like my floors are CLEAN! GET THIS VACUUM, you will not regret it!

Not a good purchase

I thought this thing was really going to suck things up well, but it did not do all that great in my opinion. Hair gets wrapped around the roller and can't be removed without a huge operation. The only good thing was that it was really easy to manuever. Needless to say, I took it back for a refund.

Performs well but annoying hose, few attachments

This vacuum, purchased 12/2/12 at BB&B in Mequon, WI: is easily convertible, easy to put together, easy to use; has a 25 ft cord (non-retractable); and one can tell the plastic is of a better quality than the usual $35-$100 vacuums. Feels solid.
The vacuum portion of this dual-use item:works well with a few minor complaints (see more below), but worst of all: annoying hose that's too short, likely due to it's storage area, (due to sizes of vacuum/steam heads that get interchanged) in order to be able to put the other base unit on for steam cleaning.
Vac power: seems to pick up very very well. First, I did it with my old powerful vac--then I went over it with this one. Impressive. Although, and didn't I read it--must have missed something--this vacuum really seems self-propelled.
A slight downgrade because my unit, while it does have a swivel head, it's a little stiffer than some other ones I've had. However, that's just a minor note.
It does NOT seem strong enough to lift level loop rug nap as much as a cheap Dirt Devil will (of course, the cheapos will also blow a lot back out, etc.)--it's got the power, so I'm wondering about the rotating beater brush--my cheapo Royal Dirt Devil $40 12amp vac does a better job lifting level loop nap, BUT a big "plus": this Shark truly does NOT throw dust and dirt back into the atmosphere--highly recommend for people with allergies. Does a good job with medium length dog hair, too. I also noted that the dirt/dust in the cop actually clumps nicely--much easier to deal with than the cheap vacs with the paper "hepa" filters and housings you have to go outside and thoroughly clean every few days. I was duly impressed with this.
The crevice tool is unique but most annoying, because it's got a slip-over-the-crevice-tool permanent brush you can slide down it to the tip to do an auto-convert into a "crevice brush"--this causes the crevice tool to only be able to get under a radiator about 4 inches, so it's utility of being a classic crevice tool is lost, because the slide portion of the brush blocks it under very low items (it sits about 4 to 5 inches up the crevice tool when not in use--it's got a slide/lock mechanism).
Big plus: The dirt cup is easy to release and easy to drop dirt out of the bottom. There's a button at the top for easy cleaning of a washable cup filter. All filters have easy access, which is nice. Most everything for filters is washable except one that might need replacing that's the lowest, near the motor housing--it looks like an odd shaped hepa with wire over it filer..
Easy on/easy off parts---I have an 8 yr old stick Shark Transformer and it's clip parts to take the dust cups on/off still work great, too, so I expect long life out of this Shark Rotator Vac/Steam combo unit. The portion that houses the crevice tool on the outer body is quality and the tool does not fly off when not in use.
One really ODD thing: when you start your vac or your steamer up, you actually use your foot to push the front section down that touches the floor to engage--on the top edge of the base of vacuum head and vac heads, you'll see a little footprint that means "push here" --really odd, but at least it saves another possible clip breakage in the future.
The steam vac portion: well, they COULD have sold the rug slider piece so that one could actually steam their carpets but they don't! The steamer performance: three settings for the steam and all work very well. Easy fill with the cup they give and the angle to fill reservoir. Steams nicely; comes with two velcro mop heads.
Overall: it they made this unit just a bit larger so that it could hold a longer hose and put it on the outside instead of housed in a recessed area on the back of the unit (it fits inside of the back of the vacuum and when you expand it out the 4 or 5 feet it goes, you've gotta be pretty handy to not tip over the unit--it's like a hose coming out of your belly button, only from behind and you need two hands to stablilize the hose so that the whole vac doesn't want to pull over backwards, etc.), just a bit more powerful, and a better rotator brush or ability to lift nap, and BIGGEST COMPLAINT: if they'd sell ALL of the parts you need to clean ALL floors, including carpets, it'd be perfect (how dumb is it to have this as a steamer and not have the rug slider base!! Naturally, I was annoyed because that's the first thing I wanted to do with it.
Does not rate a 5, BUT because of the quality of materials (built in heat sensors for the steamer portion and sensors if you get blockages for the vac portion, too) and it's versatility, a 4 seems fair. It's worth the $200, especially for older people with small dogs, medium hair dogs, I'd say. Weight is good for those with arthritis, too. A good quality, single person or senior citizen item.
Would NOT recommend this vac/steamer for people with larger dirty areas or tons of longer cat/dog hair, etc.--you'd have to empy cup too often.
Next year, we plan to get the Shark 3-in-1 in the same new family of vacs....the big decision here: do you want easy-to-convert steamer capability?

Shark Rotator Vac or Steam

I received my my new Shark Rotator Vac or Steam tonight. I tried it out as a vac. It worked great on my bare floors! When I tried to switch the vac head to the steam head, it wouldn't release. It won't let me try the steam head. I guess I will have to wait on hold for a while tomorrow when I call customer service to find out why this is happening. I had such high hopes for this product! Unless this is resolved, I can't recommend this product.
