With two longcoat chihuahua's this vacuum picks up the tremendous amount of fur they produce. If you're looking for a vacuum to use on the whole house at one time, go for the larger animal vacuum either upright or canister. If you're looking for something light and easy to use, this one is perfect!. This is the first vacuum that picks up birdseed without shooting it all over the place. Love love love it! Lightweight and easy to use with lots of suction power.

Aweful! Stay Away Waste of money

This is the most expensive piece of junk I have ever purchased. At best it will pick up light dust and debris on a hard floor. Do not think for a minute you can use this to vacuum out a car or debris that is of any substance. The battery run time is pathetic. They are correct when they tell you the max run time is 20 minutes. I can deal with some of that BUT then it takes a full 5 HOURS to recharge again! For $399 these units should come with 2 battery packs and chargers. The unit itself is 99% made of plastic. I will NEVER buy another Dyson product!!!!!!!!

Bought this thinking it would help with stairs and dog hair. It did pick well on tile and carpet except on low pile wool area rug. It was extremely awkward to control and as others said holding the power button the entire time was painful. The hand held was heavy and awkward as well. I returned it and purchased the Hoover Linx stick vac and separate matching handheld which is by the way far better in every aspect. (combined price still a little less than dyson).

Had a problem after a few months, CSR was Extremely Cooperative and Helpful. New part is on the way! Worked GREAT until this problem and Dyson was VERY responsive. I bought the item in cash and didn't retain the receipt or packaging and they didn't care, just shipped me the part!

Was under the impression this cordless vacuum was the best thing since sliced bread.
The power was great, but the on/off switch was defective and uncomfortable to use as well.
While pressing down on the switch, it would just stop. Then it would start and then stop continuously.
I returned the vacuum and got another, thinking this one was defective. But, the new one did the same thing.
Therefore, I had to return that one as well.

Trigger isn't the greatest but still worth it!!!

This is my second Dyson vacuum (the first was a few years ago for their DC33). I recently bought the Dyson Animal Digital Slim. I have an 80lb lab-pit mix that stays inside, in conjunction with my own very long hair and that of my daughter which seems to land everywhere. I don't get a lot of time to clean and when I do,that time is very limited. The Digital Slim is perfect for just pulling out and cleaning. The trigger is perfect for spot cleaning but a bit of an annoyance when cleaning the whole house. I would highly recommend Dyson come out with an updated version that includes both the trigger and an on/off button for sustained power. Either way, the trigger is not enough of an annoyance to not buy this product. The battery lasts right at 20 minutes as advertised and has very good suction. I've not used the "max" power (which is advertised as lasting for 8 minutes) other than simply to see what the difference was in suction. I've not had to use the max power once since I bought the vacuum. My house is approximately 2400sf with the entire downstairs being hardwood and tile except for my office. My steps are carpet and this Dyson is PERFECT for the steps as the pole can be removed and the turbine head attached directly to the main motor, making steps a breeze!!! I can clean my entire downstairs (not counting the carpeted office) and most of my steps before my battery gives up. As I get more into a routine with the vacuuming with this thing, I am able to get more clean before needing to recharge. I am currently 3 steps shy of completing my steps and downstairs on one battery charge, but I think I'll get there! =)

I'm about to purchase this same vacuum for my mom for Christmas as she is in the process of replacing her floors with hardwoods and has two dogs, two cats, and residual hairs from four horses all throughout her house. I highly recommend this vacuum for yourself and as a gift!

Let me start with the positive - I love the cordless aspect. But, if this remains charged for 20 minutes, it's barely 20 minutes. The fact that to keep it running you have to hold the button is irritating & frankly uncomfotable. I have 3 dogs & I can't use this vacuum for my entire house. Having said that, I would only reccommend this product for a small house or an apartment. Considering how expensive this is, I would like to say that the fact the Dyson won't allow BB&B to take their 20% coupon makes Dyson appear as another greedy coroporate giant. As long as I have a good size house, I won't purchase another Dyson for these prices.

How did I ever live without it?

We have a 100 pound yellow lab and a 90 pound black lab.... and a cat. White tile floors in the kitchen, dining room, hallway, etc. Every 2 days there is dog and cat hair all over the place. For the past 9 years I have pulled out the shop vac to suck up all the hair before mopping. The shop vac was the only thing that would get all the hair, and I have a Kenmore Progressive vacuum that just doesn't get it all.

The DC44 showed up yesterday and charged it overnight. In the time it used to take me to simply get the shop vac out and plug it in, the job was done with the DC44.

Granted I have only used it for 5 minutes...... that is the reason I purchased it...... so it would only take 5 minutes to get the job done.

Very impressed. Pricey little thing, but I love it !

I love this vacuum. I can use it everyday. It is easy, convenient, quick and does a fantatic job. No cord and I have a huge kitchen, so I really appreciate no cords. It will get spider webs down, We get those in the summer sometime. It cleans the trim up high, I can't say enough and I'm going to buy my daughters this vacuum for Christmas.

I usually don't care to give my opinion but in this case I have to. This is the best cordless vac ever!!! It's even better than all of the regular vacs I've had. My husband bought it for me several weeks ago hoping it would be easier than sweeping. I have a bad back, 2 small dogs and a child with asthma so I clean my floors almost every day. This vacuum is amazing. I can vac my whole house and it picks up the dogs hair from all my different types of floors. My floors look and feel clean. "They are Clean." Because it's cordless I can move quickly through the house, and because of it's slim design I can even get under furniture without having to bend so much. I Love It and I recommend it to anyone with pets, kids with asthma, or for someone with a bad back like me. The battery life is just long enough for me to finish my entire house. I hope a longer battery is offered some day. Until then I am 100% satisfied with this awesome vacuum. Love It!!!!

I didn't think it was possible to be in love with a vacuum. I have a large house with black concrete floors and 4 pets. I hated to have to lug my canister vacuum out, including lugging it up and down to vacuum stairs. I still use it once a week for deep cleaning and my carpets but The Animal helps me keep tidy DAILY! And I can easily suck up the spiders in the corners both high and low. :-) Try not to get sticker shock.....I used one of my 20% BB&B coupons and was lucky to purchase during an in-store $80 gift card promotion - so that helped. After just one week I would have not had any remorse if I had paid the retail.

It is my privilege to share with your viewers this First Review for the Dyson DC 44 Animal. I had read the reviews for its predecessor, the Dyson DC 35. When I learned that Bed Bath & Beyond was offering the newest model available, I was interested but I had reservations because of the cost. I was told that I could return the vacuum if I was not completely satisfied so I decided to make the purchase. When it arrived in the mail and I took it out of the box I was impressed. It looks so futuristic... (Something the "Jetson" Family might have in their own galactic home.) After the initial battery charge, I was ready for the "maiden voyage" across hardwood/linoleum floors and area rugs. I was truly amazed how it handled and it even seemed to shift gears when changing from one floor surface to another; all the while picking up everything in and out of sight. That first cleaning session was so much fun and I now enjoy and even look forward to using this incredible piece of high-tech machinery every day. It is also versatile as there are "tools" included for every cleaning project conceivable. It also picks up cat litter swiftly and with a breeze. And speaking of wind, we get a lot of fine dust that blows through our doors and windows. It picks this up and it doesn't blow it back into the house like the other portable vacuums I have had in the past. The dust bin is easily emptied over the trash can with a flick of a button. Real sweet! May God bless all the engineers who helped to "create" this "Animal" and all the good people at Bed Bath & Beyond who helped to make this purchase a positive one. I hope those who have the opportunity to buy the Dyson DC 44 Animal will also be 100% satisfied. They say "Cleanliness is next to Godliness!" and I believe this is so. Happy Housecleaning!
