Customer Reviews for Umbra Umbra® 60" Glide Track System - Nickel

Umbra Umbra® 60" Glide Track System - Nickel

This molded, multi-use track system is excellent for "high traffic" drapery that gets pulled back and forth a lot. It includes quiet moving clips that allow panels to glide with ease. The Glide can be cut to fit, can be used in a window or as a room divider track system, and can be wall or ceiling mounted. Connect multiple tracks to fit any space. Includes 10 clips and mounting hardware. Easy to install.

Easy sliding

I used two of these for each of two large windows. They connected well when cut to the right window width. The linen sheers move easily along the combined tracks. The only problem I had was in getting them delivered without them bending or breaking. BB&B happily replaced the broken one when I brought it to the store.

I purchased the 60" umbra glide, thinking that I would check out the quality before ordering all the components that I need to fit the 150" expanse of windows in my living room. The shipment came from the LV warehouse (my local BBB store didn't stock this item) and they sent the wrong merchandise - a totally different curtain rod - by mistake. Rather than ship back the incredibly long package, I returned it to the local store and had them reorder all 3 umbra glides for me online (2 units of 60" and 1 unit of 48"). Thank goodness this time the correct order arrived. The glides were described as able to accommodate any size window, with components easy to cut and connect to create the desired length. To fit the window I had to saw off 18" of glide from one of the units, which cut easily, but during the procedure the nickel finish was easily scraped, revealing that the glide is actually plastic. Aluminum (?) biscuits are included so that units can be connected, however, the connections are difficult, if not impossible, to align perfectly and seamlessly - and once the clips are inserted and the curtains hung, the clips do not slide past the connections smoothly. I have to grab the curtain where the ball clip is stuck and yank it past the glide connection. This is definitely not an ideal situation! I like the look of the glide system but the quality could be better - especially for the price which totaled $174. Umbra says that with their glide system you can "connect multiple tracks to fit any space." I would highly recommend that you not do this. I would only use it again if I have a window that can be accommodated by a single glide of 60" or less, 48" or less, or 24" or less - since these are the 3 lengths it comes in. If cutting the glide is necessary, one should take precautions to protect the glide by wrapping it with a soft material so as not to take off any of the metal-like finish, which nicks off easily. Once the glide system is installed, nicking is no longer a problem. Luckily, I hung very sheer, lightweight curtains because the clips that come with the Umbra glide are tiny! The clips barely open enough to clamp even the thinnest curtain. Fortunately for me, this is a temporary window treatment (while I wait for custom shades), but a rather costly one. The glide system and the sheer panels set me back over $350 total. The Umbra system is a good choice for small windows where you can use sheer curtains - like the kitchen. The look is very sleek and modern rather than traditional or homey, so your room's decorating style needs to be taken into consideration as well.
