CBTL Americano

My wife and I had been shopping for a single serve home brewer system for some time. We have only a small amount of counter space and our large brewer was too much for the house and we did not drink 12 cups of coffee. We started looking at everything from Keurig, Nespresso, Starbucks Verismo, Bunn MyCafe, etc. My wife mainly likes the brewed coffee while I like espresso drinks. I get "free" brewed coffee at work, so I would be the secondary user for this machine so my wife's preferences were dictating most of the discussions (by my choice-when she's happy I am). Actually the CBTL machines were the last I looked at. I was waiting on the Starbucks Verismo to come out, but I have seen some really bad reviews. I like the build quality of the Nespresso and don't doubt that they have a good product, but we wanted an ability to do brewed coffee which with the Nespresso one would have to add water (i.e. making an americano). I had seen the CBTL, but had not given it much thought, but when I was in BB&B one day I looked at it, then I looked at online reviews. I was really surprised at so many favorable reviews, so we purchased one! The deal BB&B is offering in store is amazing. You get the machine and 5-boxes of coffee capsules + you get a $50 mail in rebate! We used a 20% coupon and we were out the door for around $128 including tax + we will get the $50 rebate in the form of a prepaid visa (which we plan to use on a milk frother). The great thing about this machine is you can buy the coffee capsules at cbtl.com, target, bb&b and amazon. The coffee we have tried is really good. The decaf espresso is so smooth and rich and has golden brown crema(great for evening espressos) and the French is so strong that its fine for the 12 oz setting for travel mugs. Make sure you prime the pump! Also the capsules are BPA free and with a little practice all the piecces inside the capsules are recyclable. Just remove the foil top, pull the top plastic filter out as well as the bottom one, wash them off and put in the recycle bin. The actual capsule is made from polypropylene. The used coffee goes in our compost! We have been happy with the machine so far and with BB&B's return policy it was an easy decision to try this out. We look forward to getting some Torani flavered syrups and our milk frother and have some friends over for a coffeehouse night!

I purchased my CBTL to replace my Kcup machine since I had so many issues with the pumps (3 machines in 1 year!) and hated that I couldn't get a great cup of coffee, not to mention even an espresso, from the machine. This machine packs a fantastic punch- great pressure, rapid action on the brew and espresso with crema! Love the single cup style to it as my husband rarely drinks coffee and prefers flavors where as I am completely opposite. The tank size is good for about 1 days worth of use for our house, but that's really not an issue for us. Some may complain its a bit louder than a Kcup machine - but its only for a few moments and I know it is because this machine packs more power than a Kcup machine could. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for that next step up from a KCup machine!

Machine was purchased as a gift for my husband. It seems ok but it's a pain having to drive from 35 to 50 minutes just to buy the coffee when Keurig is offered in all the supermarkets in the area. Too bad the coffee pods are not interchangeable.
This machine was used only once and seems quite noisy. Since it is still new I'll have to save any other reviews for later.

After trying to get a decent cup of coffee out of one of the other (starts with a K....) pod-style coffee makers for the last year or more, I tried this out after having an espresso handed to me when I was walking through my local BBandB. That was all it took. At this point, the beverage offerings aren't as varied as they are for the leading pod makers, but this thing actually makes a real cup of coffee. And more. So instead of getting distracted by flavored iced tea or hot chocolate....It is smaller, works like a charm, heats up fast, easy to clean. Can you get a better cup from a 2000 dollar espresso machine? Probably. I'm good with this, hopefully for a while.

Short history--I purchased a Tassimo when it first came out. Found it difficult to use. Then a Kurig, --easier to use and lasted 5+ years. Then a Cusinart--4 new ones within the 9 months; each time it was my resposibility to pay for shipping when I called customer service for yet another replacement. Tried a Kurig again and 2 months later it was not making coffee (on Christmas Eve late afternoon. Thank heaven BB&B was still open or there would have been no coffee on Christmas Day). Bit the bullet and purchased the Tassimo again and was "lucky" enough to purchase one that ended up in a recall.
I LOVE LOVE making a single cup - fresh every time, lots of variety (especially Kurig) and quick.
I saw the CBTL and thought "why not", did some research and found out more about their coffee. Having tasted their coffee in the past and really enjoyed it, put the CBTL in the basket, picked out coffee capsules and checked out. OH MY!! I do not remember any single serve having better coffee - absolutely no aftertaste, just coffee flavor. No bother with water filters, easy to fill the rather small water dispenser. My CBTL sits close to the sink, so I just open the little door on the top, pull the hose in the sink over and fille it up! Yea - even hubby will fill it up now!! I thought learning to put the coffee capsule into the machine was a little tricky at first, but after a few cups realized the handle should not be all the way open when you insert the capsule----duh!
All single serve coffee makers have their good and bad points -
Bad -(but not a deal breaker for sure) It has a "rumble sound" as it brews. If it has not been used for a while, the lights blink as it heats the water--takes a few minutes and it is good to go. Capsules are not yet available in grocery stores, but I have noticed more and more places beginning to carry this machine along with the coffee - just a little more time.
Good - Dependable!! Coffee is as good as it gets. Several varieties including teas, great expressoes. Easy to make iced drinks, moveable cup holder, used capsule holder you will normally only "dump" once a day. Very handy. Did I say GREAT coffee.
Am sorry this is so long, but I really like this machine and its dependability. Works first time every time after six months. No added expense of using a water filter. Coffee capsules ship free from BB&B. Hope I have not bored you and some of this missive is helpful to you.

Delicious Coffee and Espresso.

I bought a CBTL because I liked the idea of being able to brew coffee, tea, and espresso with it. It's pretty easy to use, except the first time I brewed with it, the handle was really stiff so I had to push it back and forth a few times to unstiffen it. I really like the fact that it makes authentic espresso. It's also nice that the machine comes with a small sample pack of the capsules. I'm happy with my CBTL.

NOT my best purchase ever

I bought this as a gift for my daughter who recently moved home to save money before Grad School. We have very different tastes in coffee, so I thought this would be a great way to make it work for both of us. I hate it!! The coffee, even straight out of the machine is NOT hot. The options on coffees are very limited, and I have to go to BBB to buy them. I should have just gone with the Keurig. Believe me, if I still had the box, it would be going right back to BBB.

Non-Addictive Coffee Maker

Bought this to replace my defunct Tassimo single serving coffee/capuccino maker, which I really loved although somewhat quirky behavior and replacement cost had more than doubled in the 4-5 years it served me great coffees. This one seems to be made of cheap plastic that won't hold up to daily use, and the coffee it makes, while hotter than the Tassimo, has little flavor or richness. Perhaps I haven't gotten the knack of it yet or found the right capsules to make rich coffee or expresso, but wouldn't recommend to anyone used to Tassimo or more expensive coffee makers.

Other than the compartment that holds the used coffee capsules being slightly tricky to pull out (I can never do it seamlessly!?) I am pleased with my purchase. I prefer the CBTL Italian capsules for a dark espresso....

I take my coffe seriously (fyi keurig is a waste of time if you are a coffee person) I love black unsweetened espressos, & coffee. I had to try this machine. The quality & feel of the actual machine seems pretty poor, but since it is BB&B I figured I could return it anytime if it breaks. I was amazed that it makes a great cup of coffee & an above average espresso. One of my tests for a great coffee is if my wife thinks its too strong. She hated it. The tea is good also. It is a trifecta. I am still loyal to my "Nespresso" machine @ home, but this machine is ideal for work as it does everthing at the very least "well" Its all about positives outweighing negatives. So it a keeper for now

Out of all the single serve machines I own, and my CBTL makes 4, this one is the best ; ) The espressos are superb; not simulated. There is real 15 bars of pressure! The machine is a dual pressure system, and switches to 3.5 bars of pressure for coffees and teas. I really enjoy the quality of the coffees, teas, and espressos available for this brewer. You know if you are drinking Coffee bean beverages, you are drinking premium, quality, and fresh brews. The coffee capsule inventory is expanding. Know also this is a Caffitaly system. Any capsules that are Caffitaly capsules will fit in the CBTL beverage system.
