DO NOT STORE AEROCCINO ON PLUGGED-IN BASE!!!!

I received this as a gift Nov. 2012. As of this time, nowhere in the instructions, the manual or the online instructions, does Nespresso tell you to not store the Aeroccino on the base if the base stays plugged in. Even if you handle this item with kid gloves and follow the instructions perfectly, if you keep your unit on a plugged-in base when not using it, within a very short period of time your Aeroccino will stop heating. Nespresso customer service is excellent and attentive, but it is like pulling teeth getting their service to admit this in an email, which they finally did to me. As a reviewer on another site noted, this may be a clue as to the fragility of this expensive item. When it is working, however, it is fabulous. The frothed milk is thick and lasts the duration of the beverage, not just for a few moments before it dissolves away. And the Nespresso unit itself is perfection.

I ordered this Nov. 2012. At that time, nowhere in the instructions, the manual or the online instructions, does Nespresso tell you to not store the Aeroccino on the base if the base stays plugged in. Here is the explanation of this problem from another site:
"Cee Bee says:
From an engineer: It appears that the Aeroccinio uses a magnetic coupling to drive the stirrer inside the mug. The good news is that this eliminates the need for a seal which could leak. (Stainless steel is not magnetic, so the magnetic field passes thru the mug.) The bad news is that it is true that magnets can loose their strength over time if kept coupled to another magnet, and storing the magnetic stirrrer inside the mug directly above its drive magnet in the base must cause the magnets to weaken over time. We just bought the Aeroccino and now that we know that the unit is susceptable to this natural occurance, we will store the mug separate from the base. Simple enough to do - only a slight inconvenience. "

No longevity

Was great in frothing for a couple of years then conked out. It was always difficult to clean as milk would burn on the bottom even if poured and cleaned right away. Will try another brand. This was not worth $90.

This is one of the simplest machines I've purchased and one of the most fun. Every weekend now we have latte's. This makes frothing milk (and we use soy) warm or cold. This is an absolute blast!

Pass on Nespresso frother

The frothing is great - quick, easy. BUT the clean-up and longevity is more than disappointing. The milk tends to burn at the bottom and difficult to clean. Even though the directions tell you that it's water safe, it isn't. Mine lasted 3 years and for $99 it should have lasted longer. Nespresso offered to replace for $75 and after some complaining $50 ... why bother? Same thing is likely to occur. Find another frother!
