Strong Carpet Cleaning, weak bare floor cleaning

The Dyson DC41 does an excellent job cleaning carpets and sucking up small dirt particles. For larger dirt particles, the adjustable head only pushes the dirt and does not allow the head to cover the particles to be vacumed. I often have to lift the vacum up to cover the dirt On bare floors, the head has more trouble sucking up larger dirt particles that will not fit under adjustable head.
The hose is tight and often tips over the vacuum when stretching it There is no handle for the hose so you are holding the base of the hose which makes it difficult to manuever and if you are not careful, will bend and colapse the hose...The bare floor attachment is poorly designed, I purchased the bare floor attachment and found that it colapses easiliy making it impossible to use.. Maybe I am doing somehting wrong but I never had problems with my Kenmore bare floor attachments.
The dirt chamber is easy to empty but fills up quickly,. Its difficult to clearn out all the dirt from the chamber, even after dissassembly, there are nooks that are unreachable but hold a huge amount of dirt. Just emptying the dirt catcher basket is not suffcient to restore sunction. You need to bank the edge of the wind tunnel vortex against the side of the garbage can to loosen and release the dirt trapped in the wind tunnel vortext chamber that is not accessible..

Overall the vacuum works well on carpets and is easy to move around. I find that it cleans my carpets with one sweep. The dirt basket is easy to clean, but deeper cleaning of the chamber is time consumming and not covered in the picture user instructions. The vacuum does not always lock in the upright postion and will flop over and hit your legs and cause bruises on your legs. Make sure you double secure the handle in the upright postion and double check before waking away, otherwise you will be nailed, or worse yet, the handle will topple over and break the glass on your china cabinet, which mine did.

Overall, the vacuum looks good in my dining room, I like looking at it and sometimes using it. But there are some annoying issues that if you are not careful, could damage your house or bruise you. .

Broke plastic on thumb depressor/canister

I purchased this product two months ago. I cleaned out the canister, per the instructions and now the thumg press part won't depress. For what I paid, I am highly disappointed!

I don't know how I've survived this long with pets and not having a Dyson. My 'kids' include a cat, black lab, and a very fluffy husky. The first time I vacuumed our bedroom-I had to dump the canister 4 times!!! So worth it. I bought on a Black Friday sale-which made the price a little nicer. We have tried all the other 'animal' vacuums before and they would break within a year or so from hair overload. This truly is a fantastic vacuum

I recently received this product as a shower gift and I LOVE IT! I've had my vacuum for about a month now, and I look for opportunities to use it! I used to look at vacuuming as a daunting task, not now. I have wanted a Dyson for quite some time and could not wait to get home and try mine! I watched as my fiance snapped together the few pieces in a matter of minutes! It was so easy to assemble! I first vacuumed a high traffic area with my old vacuum, just to see what the Dyson would pick up behind the old vacuum! OMG! It was awesome! I have a short haired dog and cat, they both live inside and shed like crazy! Both have white hair! I feel like I walk behind them trying to keep the hair from hitting ANY surface..NOT ANYMORE! My new Dyson DC41 Animal Upright takes care of everything! It manuvers so easy, the cord reaches the entire room, it goes from carpet to hard wood to tile without stopping, and emptying the canister is SO easy! No vacuum bag smell when I'm done! I used to have to febreeze to get that vacuum smell out when I was done, NOT NOW! It's not the lightest vacuum around, but it is much lighter than some of the Dyson's I've had my hands on. It fits under the edges of my furniture, it doesn't miss anything! The tools are easy to use and have made cleaning the baseboards, corners, ceiling fans, etc. so quick and easy that I do it every time I vacuum now instead of once a month! And it's quieter than I'm used to. I was surprised when I could hear my fiance talking to me from the other room while the vacuum was on! The dog and cat weren't even bothered by the noise, and usually they hide when I pull out a vacuum, not anymore! Hands down, BEST vacuum I've ever owned! I LOVE IT!! I know I've only had it month or so, but I have friends that have had their units for years and still get the same performance out of them as the day they took them out of the box!
