Beets ?

Bought this with the expectation that I could make Beet chips - USING IT FOR BEET CHIPS IS IN THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ON YOUR WEBSITE .... Yet, when I got it home and read the booklet inside the package, it says that they "strongly advise against using the TopChips with certain foods, such as beets and basil"....
So why advertise that you can use it with beets ????? And what happens if you do ???? That's not in the booklet either.... returning this item.

This works perfectly. The slicer slices them thin. I cooked mine a little longer because I like well-done chips...about 3:30. I salted them on one side before microwaving and they were perfect! I don't object to the small amount it makes, perfect for one serving size. I will be giving this as a gift!

Normal potato chips are so bad for you, but the Topchips is the solution to that problem. I really enjoyed the potato chips I made and cannot wait to try the Kale Chips that another reviewer mentioned. :) Such a great and innovative product.

Loved the easy way to make super not fried chips. Even went out and bought two more trays so I could do more in one shot. Really need to "dry" the slices before you cook them but they turn out great. Husband kept reopening the bag to get more.

Makes wonderful Kale Chips

I used this thing to make potato chips for about a week and although they were delicious, it was very tedious to lay them out perfectly without touching to get them to cook evenly.
I put it away for a while, then one day was wondering if it would work for crispy kale chips. I was having to rub the kale with oil and bake in the oven for 25 minutes, but by using this, no oil is necessary, and no tedious laying them out separately. I just threw a layer of pre-washed kale on there, added salt and microwaved 4 minutes. They turned out much better than doing them in the oven. They obviously shrink up a lot, but since it only takes a few seconds to throw it on there and salt it, you can pump out several batches and get a lot more kale chips in 25 minutes than trying to pre-heat the oven, rub them in oil, bake them, then clean up the baking dish.
Wonderful product!

This thing is awesome! I just got it yesterday, and played around a little. Potatoes obviously work best. Beets turned out pretty good, carrots burned before they got crispy. I haven't tried the apples yet.
I do have to microwave the potatoes one minute longer for the perfect chips (4 min instead of 3 in my microwave).
It says to salt them AFTER cooking too, but that doesn't work, the salt doesn't stick. I laid potato slices out on paper towels, dried them, and salted one side, then placed them on the plate salt side up, and they turn out perfect. Can't wait to play around with different seasonings.
The potatoes work fabulous though. I just used small creamer potatoes. I finished off a jar of pickles last night, so I soaked some potato slices over night in the pickle juice, and just now did them. YUM YUM YUM!!!

Not for me . . .

It worked, but not well for me. I loved the slicer. Worked excellent. Instructions say to dry the potatoes as much as possible. Did that. Says microwave on high for 3 minutes. Did that. They came out crispy but brown except for on the outer edge. Tasted terrible. I tried various times ( < & > than 3 min.) Same result each time. When done they were so dry that seasoning would not stick to them. Misted them with EVOO & that worked.
Also, you get a lot of time invested in each tiny batch that it is a time waster to me.

I have an 1100 watt microwave and I needed to cook the potatoes much longer than expected. And, as the batches continued I found I had to put them back in the microwave. Not sure why this occurred, but it did. Also found I should let the potatoes rest for upwards of a minute instead of the recommended 30 seconds to keep the chips crispy.
The directions do state to use the potatoes dry. I had been letting them in set water to keep from browning and just blotting them dry. Bad strategy. I eventually laid them out on clean flour sack towels and let them dry until they felt bone dry. These potatoes cooked the best.
I used to make potato chips in the microwave using my ceramic plates and oiled potatoes. This is much healthier and I save my plates from the extreme heat they would endure.
This platter will stretch after multiple batches, so I would just let it sit for a few minutes to cool off.
Overall, not a bad product.

Used it three times and it fell apart. I have a small microwave and it just barely fit in there. Some of the chips burned and others remained raw and others came out perfect. It is too inconsistent. The only good part was the slicer, perfect sized chips.
