Don"t Waste Your Money on This

We purchased this less than 6 months ago. I worked as described the first time, but failed miserably the second time. Pot roast does not take 15 hours to cook , even on low. The unit just didn't ever get warm enough, even on high setting. I am deeply dissapointed in the performance of the unit. Perhaps it may be due to poor quality control, since our other cooking electrics made by this brand have worked well. Save you money and purchase another brand.

Ceramic Insert Defective

I purchased this years back. I LOVED it for the first few uses, then I noticed a hairline crack starting in the center of the ceramic dish along the line of the heating element. When I contacted Kitchenaid, they said if you put cold food, i.e. refrigerated meat, into the crockpot without bringing it to room temp, the shock of the cold to hot, from turning on the unit, will cause the ceramic pot to crack... Lame. No sympathy there. But I took it back to BB and B and they replaced it with a new unit entirely. Very nice of them, but it's since happened again... So, the heating elements and outer unit seem to work fine. But the poor, cheap quality of their insert isn't worth the price. I'm hoping to go get a cuisinart today and hopefully start using the slow cooker more often again, since mine's been out of commission for too long!
However, if this has already happened to you and you can't buy a new insert yet or a new crockpot, Reynold's makes crock pot liners (like Turkey Bags) which I've used a couple times and they were worth it for a temporary fix. Prob with those is, when you use a fork to break up a roast, you may pop the bag and stock leaks into the dish anyway... then through the crack, then onto the heating element, then your whole kitchen smells of burning stock ;) Again, a temporary fix but it's time to replace the dang thing. Good luck and Buyer Beware~

Cautionary Tale

I cannot accurately rate this product, as I have not actually tried it. This is more of a reminder for consumers to do research before purchasing products, especially for anything that costs $100. We received the KitchenAid 7 Quart Slow Cooker model KSC700 as a wedding gift. When we moved in to our home, I was so excited to finally use our huge, beautiful slow cooker. It worked wonderfully the first year (with light use), then the liner cracked. We ordered a replacement, which I was able to use for 1 more Fall/Winter season. Last week I got out the slow cooker again, used it once and noticed a crack. I called KitchenAid Customer Service, and of course they will only replace it under warranty for 1 year. I'm left with purchasing another replacement for $36.99 plus shipping. After looking onlne, I realize that many other people had this same problem with this model. I really wish the liner had been redesigned because the product works great aside from this. Guess I'll have to throw our beaufiful $100 wedding gift away, but I'm really disappointed with KitchenAid. Bottom line- Do your research as best you can to avoid spending ridiculous amounts of money on replacement pieces. I'll be sticking with Rival for any future slow cooker purchases.

After extensive research on the Internet I decided to give this slow cooker a try after my last crock pot just wore out. I haven't been sorry. I even put an almost 6 lb chicken in and it came out great. I should have cooked it on the medium setting instead of low to decrease the cook time. Low setting seems pretty low and took a little longer to reach the safe temperature. I have had several crock pots and this one is the best by far.
