Major Design Flaw!

This would have been a nice humidifier, but it has two major design flaws which makes refilling the tank a major nightmare:

1) To refill the water tank, you have to put it upside down!
2) The top of the water tank is slanted, so when you put it upside down to refill it, you cannot put it on the ground.

What were the designer and Sharper Image thinking?

Great, small design flaw

I received this as a Christmas present for my youngest. I was overwhelmed, it costs more than I would have spent. That being said, I am going to buy another one for my older child. Its great, the timer feature keeps me from having to remind my husband to turn it off in the morning. Is very quiet. Gets the job done. The cheaper humidifier makes the room air thick. The one does not. The top of the tank is slanted and tall. I have not had a hard time filling the tank at all. I use destilled H2O as recommended (with all humidifiers) so I dont put it under a faucet. But I have not had any problems and strongly recommend this humidifier.

I bought this item On Feb 3 2013 and today is March 2 2013 and I will be returning it.

I filled the thank last night about 8 pm and by 9pm all of water was on the floor. No matter what i did, the water would leak out

I have two of these in my home and both have worked perfectly. I used them all last winter and so far this winter, and have had no issues. The nightlight feature is a nice extra. They are pretty quiet, more so than other humidifiers I have used.

Ridiculous design

As an engineer, I can tell you that the water tank on this unit was poorly designed. As with many units, you have to turn this one upside down to fill it. This is a larger tank, so it can't be filled in a regular bathroom sink. I had to fill mine in the tub. Unfortunately, the top of the unit is sloped (whose dumb idea was that?) so that you can't rest it on its top as you fill it. It gets heavy and there is no secure way to hold onto it. So, mine slipped on the 4th fill and hit the tub. I didn't realize that it was cracked until the unit flooded my floor after I installed it on the base.

Making the top of the tank flat would have fixed the problem - shame on Sharper Image for having such a horrible and totally avoidable design flaw!

Quiet enough for a light sleeper

Was concern about the leaking after reading everyone's reviews. But I figure I'll give it a try. Had it for 3 nights now and no leaking yet. It's not completely silent but not as loud as their other one that looked like R2D2.

This one, sounds like gently bubbling water. It was pretty quiet so it didn't bother me that much. The night light is inside the water so it's really cool, but it casts a halo on my ceiling which was too bright for me who likes to sleep in a cave like environment. I'm using the warm mist and I can feel the warmth in the water but of course is not steam like temperature. I think the LCD on the control panels are too bright for my cave but fortunately it's in a spot where i can't see it while I sleep.

Overall a decent one for the price.

Stopped Working

After two cycles of this hunidifier, it wouldn't turn on again. I tried several outlets thinking it had something to do with a particular outlet with no luck.

Also, the unit seemed to be very moist at the base which means you need to be careful where you place it. The unit seemed just fine but not sure why it just stopped working. Will be returning it to the store.

Great until it flooded my bedroom!

Someone else here in the reviews had the same problem which concerned me, but I bought one anyway. Well, a week after having it, I came home to a flooded bedroom (almost a gallon of water). Soaked through the floor to my downstairs living room. Cost me $1200 in damages having Servpro come and dry out the place so I didn't get mold. Also, the warm vapor function never worked on the unit. I guess this is why Sharper Image closed all it's stores and has almost gone out of business, say for having a few stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond carry their defective products. And I used to be a huge fan of The Sharper Image.

Great Humidifier

I wanted a filter-free, ultrasonic unit that would run cool or hot mist, and this one does the trick! Once filled, it runs for a long time. The controls are extremely easy to use and the height of the unit is perfect. It's not so short that I need to place this on a piece of furniture. The only drawback is that it's tough to hold onto the tank while you're filling it. The top surface is slanted, so it won't stand upside down on its own and holding onto the handle is awkward when the tank is inverted. I wish there were a top fill option, but that still wouldn't stop me from buying this unit again.

I ordered this humidifier because it was ultrasonic and quiet. It has a very small cap for filling that does not seal; threads are not solid. As soon as I plugged it in, it shorted out and refused to run. Returned it and bought another brand.

Bought mine about a month ago. Worked great. however...the other day went to turn it on...and nothing. Tank was full. Kind of stumped. So I will return...and exchnge for the same one. It could be that i just got a "bad" one ?? I hope so...b/c while it was workign I was pleased with it's operation....quiet...and tank lasted a long time...althoug i ran mine on the lowest or 2nd lowest setting.

Hope the 2nd one lasts !..... anyone else's die ??
