Based on the single star reviews, I bought the first one for my daughter-in-law to try out; her dogs shed a lot in her car on trips to the groomer and vet (yes, I really do love her). This was about a year ago and my daughter in law really likes it. The cover does have the odor mentioned but unless you have a low tolerance, the odor is not unbearable and it dissipates gradually over time. Within a couple of months the odor is not noticeable at all. I bought one for my CTS and found it well worth the money. Again the odor is not bad and dissipates soon enough. I found it useful when I stop at the hardware store and decide to pick up items too big or too plentiful for the trunk; the cover is durable and protects the leather seats. The cover protects the seats from my grandson's car seat and from drips of chocolate ice cream (grandpa can't say no). The summer heat in southern California does not have an adverse affect on the cover. Given the $10 price, it is one of the best purchases I ever made, after the $5 I spent on a wedding license 46 years ago.

Good value for the money

We have a new puppy who loves to visit the dog park. This inexpensive and very practical purchase has made car trips a possibility. We did not notice the strong odor mentioned in previous reviews but would simply sugggest washing the cover in the washing machine which we have done mulitple times with excellent results. The first purchase was so sucessful, we purchased a second for the other car and today ordered one for for a family member with a new car and new buddy!

I bought this product about 6 months ago and logged on this website to see if there were any cleaning instructions and saw all of the horrible reviews. Couldn't believe what I was reading because this item has saved my back seat. I have never noticed a smell from this in my car, even when my car sits in the hot sun. Totally worth every penny and I will definitly buy again!!

What a piece of junk. The smell is horrendous. Like toxic chemicals. I tried airing it out for a week, but it didn't make a bit of difference. So I decided to wash it, per the instructions, in cold water. I even used the gentle cycle. It cracked and came apart in the wash. YET THE HORRIBLE TOXIC SMELL REMAINED. I don't dare ride in the care with this, - let alone put my child or pet in with these chemicals. Even though this only cost $8 (with the 20% off coupon), it was a total waste of money. I'll be asking for a refund. This product shouldn't be on the market.

Smells like cheap death

I was excited when I found this product for under $10 at my local Bed Bath and Beyond. When I opened it, much like other reviewers said it smelled like formaldehyde. Like, a lot. I thought maybe we could air out the smell or that it would go away in time, but it's been outside for 3 days now and it smells the same as when I opened it. I did try it out in my car and I will say that it does fit well and I like the clips that go around the head rests (which is the only reason this is getting a star). However, it feels cheap and is really stiff and slippery...it's almost like an outdoor grill cover. One of my dogs, who usually lays down the second he gets into the car, didn't lay down for our entire trip. Not sure if he was perturbed by the smell or the feel of the fabric--maybe it was both. I also realized the cover tore at some point during the drive. Needless to say, I'm disappointed.

I bought this thinking it was a great price to help keep my car clean, but as soon as I opened it up WHOOSH! The thing smells like paint thinner!
I looked at the package and it was made in China...given their history of producing unsafe products that violate many health and safety codes (such as radioactive petfood bowls and petfood containing melamine) and the fact this pet seat cover reeks like a jar of formaldehyde, I am going to return this product.

I don't have head rests in the back of my car, but I attached it to the car seat hooks with zip ties, works great.

First of all, I want to say I NEVER give bad reviews. However, after reading reviews that people experienced the same thing I did, I wanted to warn others. The concept of this product is great. HOWEVER, the fumes will make you sick. It smells like gasoline which I'm assuming is really formaldehyde and it is STRONG! I opened the package and noticed the smell, but thought it would air out....that was not the case. Then I thought, maybe if I washed it...still didn't help. Then I decided to wash again in hot water, although it recommends washing in cold. Still smelled terrible. No doubt this would make my pet, not to mention me, sick. I called the store, and they are going to let me bring it back, even though it has been washed. Apparently, it is a common complaint. BB&B should remove it from their shelves, because I can't imagine anyone would actually use this product, unless they had lost their sense of smell.

I was SO excited about this. The price was right so I bought it. I read everyone's reviews about the smell, but thought maybe they were just sensitive to it. OMG! Within 5 minutes of driving around with this thing (with the windows open) I was nauseous and had a headache. IT SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE AND MOTH BALLS. I literally went right back to the store to return it. I was really bummed because it fit great and it was just what I was looking for. They really need to do something about the smell!

Awful Smell!!!!

I made the mistake of buying this. I realized this mistake on the way home as the smell permeated the entire car from the trunk. I washed it in cold water and hung it in the sun to dry for about 9 hours. The smell was still there. It's a smell resembling an oily chemical of some kind. I do not want my greyhound to be laying on this nor do I want to smell this in my car. It can't be healthy! I returned this and bought another product with no smell.
