Not satisfied with this!!

Very much not satisfied with this vacuum. Our old Bissell was acting up, and I called my husband at the store and this is what he brought me. It was very simple to put together (everything just snaps into place) and on first use, It picked up tons of dirt/dust even though I had just vacuumed that day with my old one. However, I noticed that for larger items (small pieces of paper or grass etc) this vacuum cannot pick them up. I will make so many passes and it just moves the item around so I eventually just have to get down on my hands and knees and pick up anything that is visible to me. This is a pain and my old vacuum can still pick these items up, even with a motor that is failing!! What kind of suction picks up dirt, but can't pick up a small corner of shredded newspaper?! It's not like I'm too lazy to pick up huge debris, I've always picked up large items to prevent clogs (toy stuffing for instance) before vacuuming, but when pieces of grass cannot be picked up by this "as good as Dyson" vacuum, that is a problem! I would expect that from a $20 vacuum, but not a $100. I am looking to get rid of this after 4 months for something else, probably another Bissell!

DO NOT PURCHASE

If Eureka's goal is to make a vacuum that performs the minimum requirements of a vacuum with spotty regularity but no concern for design, they have succeeded.
First, this vacuum does not clean well. I regularly have to sweep up after using it on my hardwood floors. Second, the upright design is clunky and much less effective than the canister vacuums I've had previously. Third, the plastic piece that is intended to hold the power cord in place does not snap into place and continually falls off. Fourth, the cord cannot be easily held in place while vacuuming, which means that I end up with it all over the floor and have actually run over it accidentally, taking a piece off the rubber wrapping.
However, most importantly, the vacuum pulled the fringe off a carpet that was given to me by my parents. Eureka has refused to do anything about this, and I was told that my claim was refused per company policy. Apparently, though there is no warning on the packaging or product or in the owner's manual, this product is not made to be used on oriental carpets. The customer service supervisor with whom I spoke could also not offer a written copy of this policy. She simply told me that it had been told to her verbally by a supervisor on a date that she could not recall and did not have written down.
Let me clarify my point: Eureka is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with, and I assume that they are only in business to this day because people unwittingly purchase their products, as I cannot fathom anybody purchasing a second.

I bought this vacuum and after 1 1/2 months later it does not even turn on!!!! I'm going to return it tomorrow after speaking with the manager of bed bath and beyond who said they with return even if i don't have the box yet have the receipt. so to all looking for a "good" vacuum this is not it . if you've ever had a good vacuum and know what it could do ,you could tell when you buy this one that it does not suck off the floor as it should and really the only thing it is good for is the little tools and getting into corners but how many of us really buy a $140 vacuum to get into corners .I mean I except it to clean the floor if i bought an up right vacuum. well you get the idea its not good!

I was pretty impressed by how well everything went together and the way some of the features have been thought out. I was disappointed on first use because it didn't seem to lift dirt off a hard floor very well. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems better now. Great on carpet. Awkward to hold for cleaning stairs.

Every Bit As Good As Dyson

I have a Dyson DC25. It's a great vacuum and you can't beat the swivel. However, it's bagless, and I had to vacuum up fleas (yuck). I needed a bagged vacuum. I picked this one up one night, put it together in 5 minutes and was vacuuming away 20 minutes after I got home. This is every bit as good as my Dyson. In fact, the Power Paw it comes with, which I've been using to vacuum dog hair off the furniture, is one of the best I've ever used, and I was raised in a strict Electrolux household. Of course, Eureka and Electrolux are either the same company now or very closely related - it came with electrolux bags and this thing is a dead ringer for the Electrolux upright that retails for at least $50 more. It is very very well engineered. I love the way the bag bin comes off the vacuum for emptying and the cord is so long I could vacuum all the way to Canada; the hose is so long I've vacuumed corners while the vacuum itself wasn't even in the room. All of the tools fit on board in exactly the spot you'd expect them. My only complaint is that I'm already out of bags and they aren't available anywhere, even Amazon, much less the BBB store where I got it. You have to get them from Eureka, and even on their website the begs are hard to find. I've been using it nearly every day for the past 10 days, for at least an hour every time, and it's holding up fine. Seems durable. Definitely every bit the vacuum as my Dyson.

Eureka or Dyson?

I did not have enough to spend for a dyson so tried the Eureka, it is good so far, I like the variety of handtool, for crack hard to reach. I have a black lab, so I needed a vacuum to get pet hair really good. I have berber and frize carpet and it works well on both. I just bought it yesterday. I can return it if I don't like it. Lets see if I have to return it :)
