I was craving toast as I have that as a staple every morning but since my toaster oven broke nothing satisfied my cravings until my recent purchase. It toasts the bread super quickly. I'm real happy with my purchase.

I love it!!!

I read all of the reviews on this product and it appears to me that people just don't read directions and are expecting the toaster oven to perform miracles. First, the "lip" on the rack where you lay bread to toast isn't something that you have to "lift" your toast over to get it out of the oven. It's perfectly fine. Second, it makes toast to the perfect shade of darkness or light that I want. Third, people complaining because there's no auto shut off on the oven need to remember that their regular oven also doesn't automatically shut off when the food is done. You have to check it, put a kitchen timer on just like with a regular oven and keep on eye on your cooking food. The concept of keeping an eye on what you're cooking is basic cooking 101!!!!! I'm very happy with this even though it takes up a little more space on my counter top. I love that there are two different trays and that the smaller tray has a rack on it to catch crumbs and drips and so on so cleanup is a breeze while that rack allows the hot air all around your food to nicely and evenly brown and stay crisp. Buttons are easy to read where my old toaster oven had grey print on grey buttons making it virtually impossible to read. So far this is a perfect product and I recommend it.

Had this for about a week and am very pleased. Consistently cooks/heats/broils. Price range was right on point with what i was looking to spend, especially with the 20% coupon. Larger than the prior toaster oven i had but works much better.

I read all the reviews on this site - many not recommending this product but I went with my instincts and believed the good ones because it seemed many people just didn't read the directions.
If you set up the racks properly, it does what its suppose to do (making it easier to pick-up your toast).
I use this oven toaster 3-4 times a week for toasting, cooking and reheating. No complaints here.

Solid unit, few short comings

I've had the unit for about a year and have used it fairly consistently every day for toasting bread or warming up food. We haven't found any major problems with and we use the "toaster" and "bagel" settings the most as they have a timer. I don't understand for the life of me why this toaster over does not have a timer. You can set it to act as an oven and dial in your desired temp but why not put a timer or an automatic safety switch. I imagine that if you forget it on, it would just continue to run (haven't found anything about it in the manual). Hope this review helps.

Buyer beware

The first unit I bought had to be returned to the store the same day because all the knobs were on upside down. The second unit performed well for two years, until the bottom front heating element developed a split. Concerned that it presented a fire hazard, I contacted Cusinart and was told the unit was still under warranty. They would send me a new one for $10, charged to my credit card, if I would agree to send the old unit back to them at my expense, around $30. If I did not send it back, my credit card would be charged for the cost of a new unit. I can understand Cuisinart wanting to examine the defective piece to see why it failed. But, to me, a warranty implies a company stands behind its product and replaces it at no cost to the consumer. That means no $10 charge and a shipping label to send the old unit back. As far as the unit itself, the knobs are impossible to read--we use a sort of Braille approach--and the oven rack needs to repositioned for various functions, so the owner's manual should be kept handy. It is nice not to have to use the big oven for smaller items, and this unit is easy to keep clean. If my replacement unit proves to be unreliable as well, though, I won't bother with another and will move on to a different brand.

I've had this for only a month, but so far it is exactly as I had hoped. It does everything I need it to, and very well. I did a lot of looking around before choosing this model, and I'm glad with my decision.
It toasts very well. When set between light and medium, the results are nicely browned. Make sure you use the top position (as mentioned in the instruction manual). For those who have had problems, it is my guess they don't read. Also, when the rack is placed properly on the top position, the rack slides out nicely when the door is opened, making the removal of toast or anything else very simple.
It heats up quickly, warms and cooks things quickly and evenly. The toaster and bagel settings will turn the unit off and then beep 5 times. Nice touch. The baking and broiling settings will not turn off automatically, so be aware if that's a feature you need.
It cleans very easily, and the pullout crumb tray is very convenient. Plus, it's a very handsome unit so my wife tolerates it sitting on the counter 24/7.
I have NO COMPLAINTS with this unit and highly recommend it!

I use this every day, and still haven't cracked the code on getting toast that isn't completely blackened and smoking on one side, even on the lightest setting. No complaints about using it as an oven - reheats leftovers nicely.

All racks made wrong - very INCONVENIENT

I received this as a gift and tried toasting some bread. The toast does not slide off the rack, instead the large front cross bar of the rack is in the way. It is pointless having a toaster that you need to reach in and lift hot toast out over a bar. My last toaster oven worked great as the toast just slides out on the plate.
The rack is made incorrectly and not like the picture. The small grate wires that the bread rests on are below the cross bars. Hence you need a fork or something to get the toast out past the front bar. The cross bar is in the down position as required for toasting (also like the picture), but the wires are not like the picture.
I called Cuisinart about this and they said the grate I had was correct and the picture is wrong. They said all the TOB-40 toaster ovens are this way. They did not understand that all grates are made with the small wires on the top side of the large wire frame. They were extremely not helpful.
Be advised that this is a major inconvenience - one that makes the primary function of the toaster difficult. This item is being returned.

Really great product-- we got it off of our registry in September. We use it nearly every day, and it's simple to use, easy to clean (thank you crumb tray!) and easy to adjust temperatures and settings.
I was also worried about it being huge, but it's actually a great size-- our apartment is small (the kitchen is) and it doesn't take over the counter space.

I've had this toaster oven for 3 months now and felt that with using it every single day I can now give it a honest review. Don't even try to toast anything in this toaster - 3 out of 7 days I get burnt toast when the toaster is set on light- I have to stand right next to it to stop it when I see the bread start to darken- what a pain! The oven door doesn't close all the way and steam escapes- this caused a white mark to form on my wood cabinet door : ( I did use this to bake a small casserole in and the oven part was just not as accurate as my oven it took 30 minutes longer. I would not purchase this item again and for you I'd keep looking- don't make my mistake and waste 80 bucks

Beware - fire hazard

I bought a Cuisinart TOB-40 today and fortunately placed it on a fireproof surface to try it out. It got extremely hot just toasting one slice of bread (which burnt on the medium setting). I had to press the cancel button to end the cycle early because I saw how dark the bread was getting. Smoke poured out when I opened the door. There is no way I would place this appliance on my countertop or near a cabinet. It is going right back to the store tomorrow, and I will try a different brand of toaster oven, hopefully with more success.

was super excited to register for & receive this as a wedding present. unfortunately, toasts unevenly. anything beyond the light setting leaves burn marks. it even caused our fire alarm to go off a few times. broiling & baking are ok, but the baking seems to take longer than if i was to heat something in the conventional oven.

Unit does not last

I bought this not more than 3 years ago and it just started to smoke and the internal wiring melted. Cuisinart refused to fix or repair as it was out of warranty and suggested I contact quality assurance instead.
During the time I had it, the unit browned the top of everything we tried to bake and toasted bread unevenly and poorly.
Don't waste you money on a toaster oven that works poorly and doesn't last. (my previous one lasted 15 years)

Really good, instructions not so much

This was our first toaster oven and we are quite happy with it.
This is apparently the newest of Cuisinart's toaster oven designs and the only one to draw 1800 watts rather than 1500 so warmup is almost absurdly fast. Toast comes out nice and even as long as you follow the instructions and place the bread in the middle of the rack front to back. The dedicated toast shade control is real handy, too. Some might find the controls hard to read but that is easily fixable by highlighting the pointer on the knob with a paint marker.
Contrary to some other reviews, the unit does shut itself off after 4 hours although this is not mentioned in the manual. Another thing not mentioned is whether the door should be left ajar when broiling.

The toaster oven is OKAY. Works better as an oven than toaster.
Pros:
**Works well as an oven. I've cooked potatoes and reheated pizza in the oven.
**Does not take up much counter space.
**Cooks fast.
Cons:
**NO TIMER. Be careful when using the oven. Toaster has auto shut off.
**It does not toast bread evening.
**Not sure if the following is a pro or con. Toast fast.

I love my toaster oven. The price was right, it is compact and works well for apartments but not too small. Cooked two steaks perfectly. Cleans up well.
