Customer Reviews for Rowenta Rowenta Focus Iron Model DW5080

Rowenta Rowenta Focus Iron Model DW5080

This durable, feature-rich iron is perfect for everyday use. The scratch-resistant, highly polished stainless steel soleplate provides excellent glide, while the large thermostat knob makes it easy to adjust heat settings. Steam options include vertical steam and burst of steam. The vertical steam option allows the iron to be used in the upright position to remove wrinkles from drapes and hanging garments. The burst of steam option concentrates steam at the tip to remove hard-to-reach wrinkles from difficult fabric. The extra large 10-oz. water tank fills easily at the tap, and the graduated water indication lines let you easily track how much water remains. The 3-way auto shut-off turns the iron off after 8 minutes if left vertically and 30 seconds if left horizontally or tipped over. Additional features include self clean and anti-scale functions, comfort handle and large, soft-touch rear. 1700 watts. 78" cord. Measures 11" x 5" x 6". 1 year limited warranty.

My 2nd review about Focus DW5080

I wrote a review on May 13, 2012 about this Iron and I gave 5 stars. Today I'm giving 2 stars. For several months now I have a linking problem. I read the manual again and tried anything they were saying, thinking I may do something wrong and after several months I came to the conclusion that the iron has a problem. Sometime the water comes out like rusty and I have to rewash the piece of clothing, other time it's just water coming out not only from the soleplate but it's like it is from the corner just higher of the soleplate. I do 3 to 4 hrs of ironing a week, I need something reliable and after only 2 years, it is not anymore. I had cheaper iron that lasted a lot longer and were doing a good job. Tomorrow I'm going to the store and I won't come back home with a Rowenta. I loved it very much for at least one year and it did a great job but..... I hope the company takes care of this problem as I am not the only one who had complained about it.

Poor design or defective, short 8' cord

Every time I would set the iron down it would put out a big burst of steam. This was really annoying, a bit unsafe and used up the entire amount of water after only four shirts.
The cord is a bit short also, only 8 feet. My old iron's was 12 feet. I guess it's for little German houses.
It did iron things just fine.
I returned it after one use. Im going to try the Black and Decker. So much for great German engineering.

Best Iron

I bought a Rowenta P2 Professional anti-drip iron for my mother in 1999. I was working in a chemical plant and she was ironing my jeans for me. My mother passed away in 2002 and I inherited the iron from her. I have used this iron since and it has been the best iron I ever had. It just stopped coming on and I truly believe that it just needs a new cord. I was shopping for a replacement and thought I would try another Rowenta. I hope it's not a case of "they don't make appliances like they use to". I will try a new one.

Not worth the money

My wife and I got this iron as wedding gift in July 2008. It is now July 2012 and the Iron leaks all over the ironing board while standing upright. The cord has a short in it and you have to constantly jiggle to cord to get a connection. The iron has never been dropped and we have taken care of it. For the money, its not worth it. You would be better off buying a cheaper brand iron if it is only going to last 4 years. I will never buy a Rowenta product again

Focus DW5080 Rowenta Iron

I have owned this model twice! I have owned about 6 Rowenta Irons in all. They last maybe two years at the most! They are too expensive to only last this short time. On this model the Steam button on both irons pooped out. No more steam! And on all models....they leaked like a faucet. I would have to keep a towel under the iron because of the leaks. I thought these irons were not suppose to leak??????I can't afford to keep buying Rowenta if they don't do something to rectify these problems.

I LOVE my Rowenta Focus DW5080

I purchased this iron in Feb 2011 and it's the best iron I ever owed. I had Rowenta before but this one has the best steam power and doesn't leave any wrinkles behind. I love everything about it. It's true, it uses more water than a normal iron, it's because it has 400 little holes under to let the steam out. I read some negative reviews about it, but I do not think they are all talking about the same iron. This one is the Focus DW5080. In anything we buy, there is always a possibility of a defective one once in a while but it doesn't mean they are all defective. If you are looking for a very good and reliable iron, buy this one, you will LOVE it.

Really liking this iron....

I've just purchased this iron in the last 30 days. However, I'm ironing for 4 on Sunday for a whole week at a time, so even though I've only used it 4 times, I've clocked about 14 hours of overall ironing. So far, it's a tremendous improvement over the ol' Black and Decker I was using. It did take a few times ironing to get a handle on the steam control, but after a while, I worked it out. Wow, it's powerful. I might suggest to Rowenta that they include a video with your purchase to really show all of the features and benefits of the iron. Also, I'd read the directions on not leaving any water in the iron if it's not in use, cleaning, type of water, etc. I'd recommend this product.

I will be purchasing my 2nd Rowenta Focus today. I've had the first one for 5 years and am only replacing it, because we've just dropped it for the 2nd time and it's now coming apart. Totally our fault, but it still works! It's been the best iron for our house! It's heavy enough to not need several passes to get wrinkles out and the steam is great. My mother also has one and she's had hers for about 5 years as well. It is still working perfectly. She does quite a bit of sewing and has loved this iron. I would highly recommend it!

This is my 3rd rowenta. First one I upgraded. The second one broke and I could not wait till the new one arrived. They make the best steam and your clothes look like they came out of the dry cleaners. You won't be disappointed in this iron!

I received this iron as a gift since my old one gave up the ghost. I have only used it once but can't wait to use it again. Awesome iron! My clothes are crisp and once I got the hang of the steam control, I managed to get a nice facial out of it too. Very good iron. I hope it doesn't disappoint as I read some of the reviews.

Bought Rowenta irons for years

I've owned Rowenta irons for many years because in my opinion thay were the best. The one I have now, DW8080 overheated and stopped giving steam. In addition, the stainless steal soleplate rusted. I've used both tap water, which is recommened in the instruction booklet, and spring water. Customer support told me to use tap water only (????). Also, customer support wouldn't offer any incentives (coupons, etc) to purchase another iron.

Love this iron. It took me a while to get use to it. The steam really smooth out the cotton pants we love to wear. You do need to refill often, but that is because of the amount of steam it put out. I leave my iron setting on the ironing board has never turned over. Would buy again!!!!

does not live up to reviews

I recently purchased this iron based upon online reviews I read. Unfortunately this iron does not live up to any of them.
The anti-drip feature should be changed to continous drip.
Dripping is so bad that it saturates the ironing surface thus leaving wet marks every time you pass over the saturated surface.
Steam control is nonexistant. The automatic steam control is supposed to adjust the amount of steam based upon the temperature setting selected. This does not work very effectively either. It's either maximum steam or nothing.
I've owned Rowenta irons before and have been very satisfied with their performance. This particular model does not live up to ANY of its' advertised claims.

This iron has been more than what I expected and way more than what I have ever received from an iron. Yes it is a little wobbly but I have yet to tip it over and I have had it for almost a year. It steams great! It goes through water pretty quickly but because of the great job it does the water does not bother me!

Returning this iron

All the features of this iron are great, EXCEPT the base. When you place the iron upright on an ironing board, it wobbles and is at risk of falling over--possibly onto the floor. The base is a "T" configuration which doesn't allow for a lot of surface area for it to be steady. It's fine if you iron next to a granite counter and place it on the counter, but I don't iron in the kitchen. I am returning this iron for safety reasons.
