Works Great

My husband and I had an older model which finally stopped working after many years. We wanted to replace it as my husband has a bad back and uses it almost daily. We read other reviews, some of which thought it was too rough or hard of a massager. We don't think so. We have a very straight, upright chair that we use it in and for us it feels great. I think if it is too rough for someone else it might help if they use it in a softer, less structured chair and it may not feel so rough or hard to them. We think this model is great and exactly what we wanted.

Poor quality

I purchased it for my girlfriend. I was so looking forward to giving it to her, since she has a bad back. Right out of the box, the right side neck massager did not work. I followed the setup directions perfectly and it was still broken. For supposedly being one of the better massage pads, it feels very cheap and flimsy. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It is of poor quality, and you'll be better off paying for a real massage once a month than buying this product.

Deep tissue wonder!

I can see why some people will complain over the "roughness" of this unit, but shiatsu isn't meant to be a light tickle. This massager delivers a very realistic deep tissue feel. The shoulder/neck section is a little high but one can make it work by inching up or down as needed. The best part is using the "spot" feature and hammering away at a stubborn area. It's very close to a real masseuse for this.
My two cents for those wanting a less aggressive massage. Wear extra clothes (a thick sweatshirt will work) which will cushion the force a great deal. My wife took that route. I actually lay it flat on the ground to intensify the effect even more but I'm a deep tissue lover.
Overall, this unit is very cheap considering the cost of a basic massage nowadays. It's obviously not as good as the real thing, but it's much more convenient and portable.

I like the massage chair

I like this masage chair. For those of you complaining because it's too rough, what do you think Shiatsu is...aka deep tissue...yes it can hurt because it's trying to release tension in some tough muscles in your back. That's why I like this chair. I had one of the previous versions of the Shiatsu chairs and after many years of use it gave out. Is this one a bit more expensive, yes, but you know that before you buy it. Is it perfect, no, I will admit the shoulder part is a little high but if I sit up straight and lower the rollers to their lowest level it works for me (yes this could have been designed a bit better). But again, this is one of the few that I have ever found that really gets into the back muscles. Yes, everyone gets their opinions but I hate reading complaints about it being too rough when that's what deep tissue is. It's the only thing that helps to loosen up my back muscles. I just got it so I am counting on it lasting, if it doesn't I will return it and get a new one (that's why stores have returns because things don't always work or you might not like something).

Literally Sore

*Felt heat intermittently
*VERY loud - distractingly so
*Never got to the right area - just close
*Joystick seemed flimsy - concerned it would break
*Shiatsu hurts
*Rolling feels more 'tolerable', but not good
I will be making a return of this item for the points above additionally because of quality. If you have experience with Sharper Image items, you'll understand that this product just doesn't 'feel' as expensive as it cost. Sharper Image products tend to look really cool and great, but the materials and quality always has them incredible flimsy feeling.

Have read the negative reviews and do understand them. My wife cannot use this device as it hurts her back to do so. But I absolutely love it. Does deep massage and feels great! Have had back issues for years and this thing is the only one out there that gets me going in the morning. Feels great to me and gets rid of morning back stiffness. Have one at work as well. Your mileage may vary, but I would not be without it.

Got this for my Dad for Father's Day, not such a good idea. He loved the Swedish Massage version, and instead of getting him that one I went with the more expensive one. Thinking being more, it was probably better.....wrong. He said it felt like he was getting beat up. When it's on roller mode I guess it's not as bad, but the Shiatsu mode is a killer according to him. So he is planning on returning it to get the Swedish Massage Cushion instead.

Plain and simple this thing sucks

Just spent 200 dollars on a massage chair that doesnt do what it says it does. First off there is only 1 roller that goes up the right side ONLY. The joystick doesnt work from left to right and u CANT pinpoint that trouble spot for that reason. The roller is positioned right on the spine. Last time I checked a massage was for muscle not bone. Returning tomorrow!!!!

Waste of time and money

It broke after 1 day!!! The joystick stopped working from left to right and would only go up and down. When it did work, it was very noisy and bulky. It does not work as well at home as it did in the store's display because they have a special chair for it to fit into and background noise to distract you from the redonkulous whirring sound it makes. The shoulder section never seemed to hit the right spot but just fluttered around hopelessly in the air above my shoulders. The lower back action and heat was pretty good...but again it broke. Under no circumstances should a $200 item cease to work on day 2!!! Utter garbage. Don't waste your time or money. I have to go back to the store and try to return the thing now. Annoying.

Sorry I bought it

First the cushion back is very heavy with a small seat that does not help hold the back cushion in play. It falls over easily also.
The shoulder massage is of no use as it does not touch my shoulders. I am of average height and the shoulder massage feature comes up to the top of my neck.
the lower massage doesn't go far enough down and the upper doesn't come high enough. It is very poorly designed.
I would not buy this product again nor would I recommend it to anyone.
