Bought this as a gift for my husband and since the rest of us love popcorn too, we all love it. You can make different types of popcorn using just imagination. We've had traditional kettlecorn (touch of sugar); salt and pepper, and they all taste great!

Works Great But Not Big Enough for Us

This works wonderfully. I had great popcorn in about 5 minutes. You should use coconut oil instead of any other oil except those specifically made in packages. This yields about 8 cups of popcorn which is not enough for three of us. I am taking it back and getting one with a 4 oz kettle. It is a nice product though.

We just love the Hollywood pop-corn machine. It sits in the corner in our living room and we have movie type decorations above it. Movie poster, movie theater signs, etc, etc.
When we decide to watch a movie on our big screen in the living room, we use pre-packaged popcorn that we buy at Bed, Bath and Beyond, that comes with butter and salt. We add little bit more butter and it's magical. Who cares about few unpopped kernels, come on people?
Highly recommend it.

For $80.00 I expected it to be much bigger. I don't see how you can pop corn and clean it easily. We haven't used it as of yet, but we'll give it a shot maybe for the football games. I brought it for our basement since we are redoing it and the theme is the 1950's. So I'm sure it will be a cute addition to the deco.

Disappointed

My husband and I love pop corn and eat it 2 - 3 times a week. We thought this would be a great way to get light, fluffy popcorn.
The popper did make the pop corn light and fluffy and not chewy. BUT...... a lot of the kernels were kicked out of the popper without having been popped.
We were very disappointed and returned the product after the first use.
Also... clean up is a chore.
I'll stick with the popcorn popper we have been using and enjoying for years......

Very happy we purchased this!

I bought this as is was on my daughter's Christmas list. After I got it (for a great price with my coupon) and read the reviews on this and other sites, I hesitated and even bought the Waring Pro Maker from another store because I was afraid that this would not work. My husband convinced me to stick with this product because of the theater marquee on the top, which my daughter planned to personalize. BOY AM I HAPPY WE STUCK WITH THE HOLLYWOOD KETTLE POPCORN MAKER.
It has been the hit of Christmas festivities. From the first batch, the maker works great. We even took it to a family gathering that day and made popcorn for everyone! The pull out drawer makes it easy to serve the popcorn which unlike other reviews have stated, comes out hot and definitely, abundantly pops, bursting out of the kettle as the directions and pictures show. Quick wipe-downs in between batches have proved simple.
Now, I must say that although we decided to stick with this product and are returning the Waring Pro Maker, I cannot say anything about the Waring product. It too has a great nostalgic look. It has name recognition but no fun light-up marquee. That is all I can say about it.
I felt that I wanted to help others out who may have been in the same boat as I was. I LOVE the Nostalgia Electrics™ Hollywood Kettle Popcorn Maker and recommend it highly.

Do Not Purchase

I bought this for my children as a Christmas gift. After taking it out of the box and plugging it in, the lights did not come on. So I had to take out 8-9 screws in order to get to the lightbulb. The bulb was good, the wiring was the problem. I checked and re-tightned all the electrical wires and made sure everything was making a comlpete circut. What a surprise it worked! My daughter was so happy. It made 3 batches of popcorn.........(small batches)....then...the heating element quit....Kinda of a good thing because you have to partically disassemble it to get the kettle off inorder to clean it. This is definately not worth trying to rebuild, I will be returning it to Bed Bath and Beyond the Tuesday after Christmas...

I enjoy microwave and stovetop popcorn on a regular basis. My nephew was turning 7 and I wanted something different for his bday party at my house. I bought this popper. It works great. If you follow the instructions and use butter flavored olive oil it tastes great!! The only negative is cleaning the unit. That's where the microwave & stovetop popcorn have an advantage.

This popcorn machine is incredible. One of the best poppers on the market period. I searched everywhere for a popcorn machine that met my needs. Then I discovered this little angel, super easy to use. Easy to clean as well. The Marquee is just another fun aspect, we have it set up on my childs nightstand to say " Adams Popper." My boy loves to break out the machine for every movie we watch!!!

Worst Product Ever

We have the Hollywood Kettle Popper- got it for Christmas from the grandparents to my son. Finally tried to use it tonight. Followed all directions. it was on, plug was in, oil was hot. The only thing that this did was burn popcorn, leave 90% of the kernels unpopped, and make not even enough to cover the bottom of the drawer after 10 minutes. The kettle wasn't turning and the popcorn wasn't popping. This is the worst thing my family has ever paid $100 for. This product is a rip-off and my 3-year-old son went into hysterics when it didn't work the way it was advertised. There was no "hot popcorn BURSTING" through the top of the kettle. There were a few anemic pops, a few burnt kernels and a major letdown for a toddler. The only thing it's good for is a paperweight.

My husband bought this and I thought I was going to have popcorn like at the theater. I thought It was the oil so I bought oil for popcorn poppers. This is a pain to clean. I would give this 1/2 out of a ten

I was lucky enough to receive one of these tonight, from someone that found it on the side of the road! I read a bunch of reviews and thought I'd let people know that someone said to EPOXY 2 PENNIES ON THE OUTSIDE RIM OF THE KETTLE TOP TO STOP EXTRA KERNELS FROM ESCAPING. I'm going to try saphron oil & Jolly Time!

Almost Bought this one...

My daughter asked for one of these for Xmas and her aunt got her the Waring Pro instead. It didn't look as cool, but it was smaller and still on the "Retro" side as far as look and appeal. There are very few un-popped kernals and it works great. We even make kettle corn in it and it is fabulous! The kettle is easy to unplug and remove for cleaning. Our neighbor bought this one and has the same complaints as the other reviewers here so the rating is based on their experience. I just want to be helpful to those who love kettle popped corn as much as I do! Hope this helps :)

Poorly Designed popcorn popper

My wife bought this for me and the kids for Christmas because we eat so much popcorn. Unfortunately we are not happy with the product. When popping first starts a bunch of the unpopped kernels fly out of the pot with the popcorn. 1 batch produces barely enough popcorn for 1 person let alone a family...you have to run 3 or 4 batches if you expect to have a family movie night. Cleaning it is a pain in the neck...the popping kettle is so small you can't get your hand in it to wipe it out after using. You have to unscrew the handle to get the kettle out for attempted cleaning. The threads on the handle are already getting cross threaded so I don't think this will be around much longer. This was a waste of $99.

I have wanted this corn popper for a very long time and I really like it. As the other review says, un-popped kernels get kicked out when the popping starts. I do re-pop them. Instead of putting in the recommended oil, I coat the kernels with just 1/2 the amount before I put them in the warmed up popper. Seems to work fine with less oil. It is big but I really like the pop corn so I'm willing to put up with it on my counter.

Funcorn

The Hollywood Kettle Popcorn maker is an exciting, fun way to make popcorn and the popcorn it makes is quite tasty. I'm eating now as I type...poor keyboard. It is definitely a fun design so long as you don't mind it in your decor. It's not going to be easy to put away in a cupboard so you better like a little flamboyance. Watching the popcorn spew from the kettle is exciting for kids. Now the few issues. That same except explosion of popcorn launches a LOT of unpopped kernels from the kettle. I suggest saving them to re-pop the next time. The instructions say that the lightbulb is "included by not installed" and you have to remove 9 screws to put it. Well, it IS installed, on mine at least, so I took out all those screws and put it back together for nothing. It wasn't hard to do though. Also, one warning - the first patch came out a little discolored. I'm guessing that was from residue from the manufacturing process. The second batch was perfect. Overall, the construction is sturdy and design is nice, makes good popcorn.
