The AeroPress is an entirely new way to make coffee. Whether for use in regular coffee, lattes, cappuccinos or espresso based drinks, AeroPress brews simply delicious coffee with 1-4 cups per pressing. Ideal water temperature and faster brewing yields rich flavor with lower acidity. Its total-immersion system permits extraction at a moderate temperature and a short brew time. Water and grounds are mixed together for 10 seconds then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in just 20 seconds. The air pressure gently squeezes the grounds, further enriching the flavor for an exceptionally smooth brew. Model # 80R08.

I picked one of these up at BBB on a whim when I picked up a new grinder, and after a month of tinkering with it, I'm finally starting to produce really good cups of coffee - there is most definitely a learning curve to using this thing, but when you get it down, the cup it creates is hard to beat.
A google search on "Aeropress recipes" will quickly reveal there about 600 different way to use the Aeropress, and I've probably looked at them all and tried a lot of them, and I've learned quite a bit about coffee while doing my research. Here's some tips I've picked up to get a rookie Aeropress user started...
- Buy a kitchen thermometer so you can check the temp on your water - If you wanna really geek out, go get a gram scale to weigh your coffee/water - Try different coffees. Stale grocery store beans rarely taste great no matter how you brew them, and it just so happens the Aeropress really brings out the character of the bean. Bad bean, bad coffee. - Don't be afraid to EXPERIMENT to get the cup you're looking for; try the inverted method where you flip it upside down, try hotter/colder water, try different steep times, try stirring more or stirring less, try different grind sizes, try faster/slower press times, try using more/less coffee, try just using the instructions that come with the aeropress. The amount of control you have other the brewing process is amazing, so try some different things and see what happens.
Here's something I don't like about the Aeropress; for the life of me I cannot create more than 13-16oz of good coffee with this thing. Try as I might to fill up my 20 oz travel mug, it just doesn't happen. Once you put a proper dose of coffee in the Aeropress for 20 oz of drink, there is hardly room for brewing water, so the end product must be diluted considerably to reach 20 oz. The idea is to create a potent "shot" like espresso and dilute it to attain an americano, but the coffee produced is never that great - it tastes watered down and sour, or watered down and bitter, and just seems to waste more coffee no matter how I've tried it. That being said, the Aeropress was meant as a single-serving brewing system, so I can't blame it for not cranking out a big mug of coffee. The product is fun to play with, built solidly, and makes a dang good cup of coffee after you get a method down that suits your tastes. The reason it only gets 4 stars from me? 1. It won't fill up my 20 oz travel mug 2. The learning curve and effort is high compared to other methods (auto-drip), and I could see how some people might not want to play sleepy mad scientist in the morning to make a cup of coffee. Sometimes I too just want to throw coffee and water in a machine and get going.
That being said, the Aeropress is inexpensive and worth a shot if you're looking for a better cup of coffee than a cheap auto-drip machine can produce.

I bought this to replace my K**rig and cut expenses, and gained a superior coffee brewer in the process. I started out with a Colombian bean, but proved too mild to get a strong enough cup with. After switching to some dark roasts, the coffee flavors really coma alive. Friends and family who've tried it agree that the coffee produced is excellent. This press is a great tool for making flavorful coffee just the way you like. The only downsides you could say are that it uses a little more coffee than a drip, and is slower than a K**rig start to finish.

Coffee made with an AeroPress is amazingly smooth without a hint of bitterness. I usually take my coffee with copious amounts of sweetener and cream, but I can drink AeroPress coffee black. It really is that good.
There is one caveat, I have to use cooler water to brew my coffee (~180F), like the company suggests, or the coffee will not be that different from any other brewed coffee. If I boil water I have to wait for it to cool down and I sometimes don't want to, or don't have the time to wait. (If you have a Zojirushi, however, it stores your water at 180, so you've got a constant supply of the perfect temp water.)

this is a super good purchase. for the price of only a few lattes you can make your own just as good as with a commercial machine. I use less water than the directions say, and I like to add steamed and frothed milk to it to make a latte.

My wife and I took our Aeropress with us abroad for a three week course we were working at and we used it to make the coffee for the morning breaks. (small class number) We received praises about the great coffee. I remember one lady approaching us near the end of the course and said this must be coffee you brought with you from home. Now we had brought some with us from home but ran out just days into the class and had bought and been using for weeks a locally available high end variety. I showed her the coffee and the confused look on her face was priceless. She said "How is this possible? That's the exact same brand I use every day and it never tastes this good." The only difference we could see was we were using the Aeropress. She said she was having one sent over as soon as she could. We use it every day and we love it.

One drawback

This product performs as advertised and produces one of the purest cups of coffee I have ever tasted...provided that the coffee is fresh ground and not of the mass produced variety.
After over six months I have only one small reservation, and that is that, over time, the rubber stopper has shrunk a bit and no longer seals as well as it used to. I've found, though, that if I put the plunger in a cup with very hot water that the rubber expands to the point that it seals as if it were new.
At the small price of under $30 it would be a small matter to just purchase a new one, but I am just too stubborn and cheap to do so.

i am happy with this device. i have owned many french presses over the past 40 years and this is good for just one cup. and i like that it is unbreakable.only criticism is it can be a little hard to depress the plunger. and for 2 people i would have to make 2 batches. that said, i hope to take it travelling.

The coffee does taste better, and a plain old oven thermometer shows when the water comes out of the microwave at 180. Unless your fine motor skills are better than mine (and mine aren't bad), remove the grounds "puck" directly over the sink or trash, or risk wet coffee shrapnel all over your counter-top, and it's real hard to see on dark granite.

Like having professional grade espresso at home, with the easiest clean up imaginable. This product is the best thing on the market for great coffee whenever you desire it.
The only con to the product is that I would like to see Aerobie make a version of it that is constructed with glass or steel wherever hot water contacts it. For now, AeroPress 1.0 will certainly suffice.
Buy one! You will love it.

Coffee made with the Aeropress is between a stove-top moka and a French press - no grounds but almost as flavorful as French press. Medium grind coffee works best, either paper or metal filter. Coarser grinds give a little less flavor but press easier than finer grinds. Cleanup is very easy - remove the bottom, pop the grounds and filter out, then a quick rinse. I like French press coffee a little more, but this is so easy that it is what I use for my morning cup (or two.)

Perfect coffee, one cup at a time

For me, coffee is like beer. If you like the mass produced tasteless beers like Coors, Bud and Miller, then you probably like Folgers, Taster's Choice and diner joe. Me, I like a strong, flavorful beer so, you guessed it, I like my coffee strong and with lots of flavor. I've suffered for years with an automatic drip coffee maker, and thankfully it died recently. I stupidly went out and bought a $100 Cuisinart drip maker thinking that a higher priced machine would make better coffee. I returned it after one day.
Then I discovered this little beauty after reading glowing reviews on other sites. It makes incredible coffee, providing you like to taste the coffee and not just something resembling brown water through a sock. It acts much like a French press, where the water is mixed with the coffee grinds and then a plunger pushes the coffee through a filter into a cup. Now I can finally drink Starbucks French Roast coffee that actually tastes as good as it smells in the bag.
If you are too lazy to brew one or two cups at a time, then this device isn't for you. If you entertain a lot, you will need a drip maker or similar to serve all those people at once. But for that first cup of early morning brew for those demanding and picky coffee drinkers, the Aeropress is a joy. I find myself drinking less coffee now because it is so satisfying and the taste lingers on my tongue for hours. Pure heaven, especially at 1/4 the price of that Cuisinart.
