This grill is amazing in most respects. The one CON I can find is that is a bit heavy for the wife to move around.
I would definitely recommend this item..

SPLATTERS A GREASY MESS !!

I was so excited to receive this grill, especially after reading many reviews. It is very substantial in appearance and weight. It's LARGE. As I used it, I became more and more displeased with it. My greatest objection to it is that it splatters grease all over itself, and the surrounding countertop. I found it more time consuming to clean than my George Foreman grill with stationary plates. The opening of the drip tray is quite small and becomes blocked with the larger pieces of meat scraps; so consequently, some of the draining grease ends up on the countertop, not in the tray.
Although it has a nice digital temp. control and timer, and although it has removable grill and griddle plates, I am so unhappy with the mess it made in my kitchen, I have decided to return it. So sad.

I got the Breville convection oven for Christmas and loved it so much decided to try the Smart Grill. This is another fantastic product by Breville. Between the grill and the convection oven, I rarely use my real oven! Love that the plates are easily removed and washed. I've made steaks (we're talking Outback Steakhouse good), quesadillas, hot dogs, and I'm just getting started. Love that it is a panini press too. It's heavy duty, yet nicely designed. It is truly non stick. Though I've only had it a few weeks, I HIGHLY recommend this product. Oh and don't forget to use your 20% off coupon when purchasing!

Breville Smart Grill is worth every penny

One word: Awesome! My wife talked about the grill for a couple of months so naturally, we did a lot of research. I was skeptical, mainly because of price, but it has been well worth it. We used it the first day we got it and use it almost every day. Not sure about the other poster who experienced the humming noise, but we haven't had any problems. Works just like it says; salmon in 5 minutes (opposed to 30 in the oven), grilled chicken (tender & juicy) in 8 minutes, pancakes, grilled veggies. Clean up is a snap: wait for it to cool, remove the plates, wash, dry, and replace. Although we've fiddled with some of the temps and cooking times, the pre-sets are a very good start. Another good thing is that it doesn't create a lot of smoke when searing, so we don't have to run the vent on high and open the windows. You'll have fun cooking with this appliance and I highly recommend it.

I have bought the appliance at Christmas 2010 with a 20
% off online coupon and free shipping. Have used it to grill steaks, chicken and pork and brats. Bacon turns out crispy and all the fat gets saved below the grill plates in a drawer. I have always used it closed up, It keeps the fat splattering limited. The parts are easy to clean, either in dishwasher or in your sink.
I have not noticed a noise related to the grill, but I also use a noisy oven exhaust.

The grill might be the greatest thing since sliced bread but I cannot be in the same room as the grill when it is on or just plugged in.
The unit emanates a very high pitched tone. Customer service at Breville said this is normal. They recommend that customers unplug the unit. How do you cook with a unit you have to unplug?
Buy it if you have poor hearing. Buy it if you don't mind poor tech support with knowledgeless assistance and very very long wait times.
Their excuse for the high pitched hum is the high 1800 watt heat. Nice try, change your power supply that can handle 1800 watts.

Anyone who has ever owned a Breville appliance already knows about their quality. This is my second, and may be my favorite small kitchen electric. Small, however, is perhaps not the best description of this grill/griddle/panini press. There is a lot of cooking area, and both sides heat well. The controls are intuitive, and the build quality is near-commercial. It is a heavy machine, and occupies a lot of counter space- at least for me. However, the top locks, so you can stand it upright, which does save a little space. It is a little expensive, and additional grill plates are available at nearly fifty dollars for one plate. In the end, though, I highly recommend this item, and I am sure anyone would love playing with such a well built and attractive appliance.
