These knives are awesome, I love them. Yes one of the previous reviewers is correct, there is one extra slot with no knife to fill it, because you can put one of your own knives in there. These knives are very sharp and work great, especially if upgrading from a cheap stamped set.

Overall They're Great

I just got these knives last night and WOW! These are super sharp, handle well, and are a great price. However there are a couple of minor annoyances. First, I can read (unlike some people) and saw that the block came with an extra slot to add a knife. I have a santoku knife that I refuse to get rid of, but the extra slot is too small for my knife, which is disappointing because that was one of the main selling points of this set for me. Also, the scissors don't sit in their slot very securely and the block itself is a very steep angle (I'd say about 50 degrees) so that the knives jut out into my counter space. It also would've been nice to have a selection of colors for the knife block (black or maybe a darker wood finish), but that is just me wanting everything to match my kitchen. Also, DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN THE SINK!! I forgot about the knife I used last night, washed it this morning and there were a few spots on it. No big deal, but if you have a tendency to leave dishes in the sink like I do these will become discolored. All in all, this is a good set at a great price and I hope to have these for quite a while. This would be a great starter set for newlyweds (which I am), college students or anyone on a budget who needs a good set of knives.

I got these knives for my fiance. They are fantastic, great feel and very sharp. I love chopping vegetables and slicing tomatoes ultra thin. I highly recommend these. I like them as much as my Wusthof set (for less than half of the price). If you read the description of the product it says it comes with an extra slot for adding a knife. So don't let the negative review influence your decision.

I bought this set expecting to get exactly what I saw in the picture - 16 knives, the woodblock and a sharpener attached. However there are only 15 knives. The "16th piece" is the woodblock. I have a big gaping hole in my block now, missing a knife. We called Kitchenaid to complain and they said there is nothing they can do... "That is how the set comes. If you don't like it, then return it." The picture is completely misleading and it goes without saying that we are very disappointed.
