We received this lamp a couple of weeks ago. It was easy to put together and is attractive. The switch on the upper stand is large and easy to turn. (Since the lamp is in a corner behind a wrap-around couch, we couldn't use any lamp with a floor switch or even a switch on the wire). The bulbs came with the lamp. By turning the switch, you can have two of the five lights on, or 3 of 5, or all 5 if you really want a very bright room. We're happy with 2 most of the time unless we want to read and then up the level to 3. I really like the ability to adjust each arm of the lamp so we can either have direct task/reading light or aim some or all of them up for more ambient lighting.

When I first bought this lamp it had to have been 4-5 years ago for my son in a dorm. It worked so great that I bought two more for our bedrooms that were low in light. I then bought one for my daughter's apartment, and more recently for the living room. I am going to buy one for my mom's kitchen for Christmas. I love these lamps. They are amazing, bright, light what you need, and at a very reasonable price. When I first bought them, they were $39.99, now they are $49.99 and I still would buy them. I have never had a problem even though I have used higher watt bulbs mixed with stronger fluorescent bulbs. I check the shades periodically and tighten what gets loose when dusting around the house. I guess that has allowed the ones I bought to perform as expected. I suggest you do the same so you have no problems like the others in the reviews.

Love This Lamp

I was trying to think of something to get my sweetie for Xmas and thought about getting him this lamp. I bought this lamp in July 2009 and have not had a problem with it what so ever. It really is a pretty lamp and I love the goose neck design and that you can adjust the lamp from 2 -3-5 bulbs. Really love it.

Crumbled base

After 3 year, the inside of the base deteriorated and crumbled so the lamp cannot stand anymore. There's no fixing it so it has to be thrown out.

I got this lamp 3 years ago and it was great. No smell or melting issue like the other reviewers. We liked almost everything about it. But this weekend, I lifted up the lamp to vacuum and the metal part of the base which is really only the cover came detached from the inside part which seems to be some poor cement. Well a big part of this cement base had crumbled so the lamp became detached. There is no fixing this. We're very disappointed.

The knob on the lamp I bought is defective and I have to twist it for a minute just to turn on the light.

I bought two, one for my husband to read by and one for my mother after days of shopping around and looking at other floor lamps that cost much more and didn't provide much light. I had to purchase it on line because I hestitated to get it in the store when I first saw it. Anyway, I ended ordering another and with free shipping. What a deal. For the price and what you get, it's great. Can control the amount of light and with the bulbs being provided, there is no chance that you can have the melting problem that was the negative in the previous model. I wish it came in a less contemporary style but I'm not complaining. Easy to set up.

I purchased this lamp because I needed more light to see my computer. I put it together (very easy). I was so surprised when I realized I did not have to have all five lights on at the same time. The flexibility of the lights is terrific. I have it on almost all day long and I have had no problems with the shades even becoming hot to the touch, much less melting as some others have been saying. I use the lights that came with the lamp and have had no problem with the shades melting. I love the fact that it is so light to handle I can move it from room to room by myself. If you are looking for a lamp that is easy to put together, easy to move around, easy on your electric bill. This is the one for you. I truly love it and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for some extra light to either use as a reading lamp, for your computer or to add more light to your room, this is the lamp for you.

All the reviews about melting make me wonder why people didn't realize what they were getting when the item description clearly says "Uses five 13-watt CFL bulbs (included)." It is NOT meant to be used with regular bulbs. When you assemble the lamp properly with the bulbs supplied it works beautifully. We love this lamp and it is everything the seller says it is. Regular bulbs = FIRE HAZARD!!! Read people! Those who didn't should be thankful they didn't burn their houses down.

This lamp may look attractive and provide good light, but beware. The plastic lampshades on mine got through-and-through burn holes from the heat of the bulbs. I didn 't notice this until I found little sharp pieces of plastic that had dropped all over the floor, endangering my pets and anyone who walked in bare feet. The pieces of burnt lampshade were difficult to clean up, as they were baked brittle and broke into smaller pieces when picked up. In addition, after only a couple of years, the bulb sockets detached from the power source, so that the bulbs drooped limply, would not light, and could not be put back into place. As of right now, two of the five lights are detached, drooping, and do not light. A waste of my hard-earned money.

I smelled smoke in my 7-year old daughter's room and when I looked closer the lamp was smoking. One of the plastic covers had slipped off it's base (by itself!) and was sitting upon the light bulb. It burned a hole through the cover and was smoking. This definitely could have started a fire. Either the plastic needs to be more heat-proof or they should recommend a lower wattage light.

This is a must have for any dorm room or regular room. I received this lamp as a high school graduation present from my wish list that I made on here. I have had it now for 4 years and still love it. The base is getting a little wear but other than that perfect. I keep it in my dorm room because the florescent lighting gives me massive migraines at night. I am definitely considering buying another one if and when i get an apartment. As others have said yes the shades are plastic, However when cleaning or needing to sterilize things in my room during flue season it makes it so much easier. I would suggest this product to anyone

Fantastic Modern Floor Lamp

This floor lamp looks so much more expensive in person. It's heavy which provides a sturdy structure and I love the 5 flexible lamps. With all 5 twirly lights (included), it provides excellent brightness to my daughter's room which is exactly what I didn't get from her old floor lamp or you can just turn on 2 or 3 lights on which is really nice! She loves it too! It really provides a nice look to the room.

Upon setting up the lamp, which was very easy, Out of 5 boxed bulbs, I discovered one that was broken to which I contacted Customer Service and they mailed one to me as requested. This was a fantastic purchase for us.
