This oven has a well built look and feel. It's been a great addition to the kitchen - both aesthetically and functionally.

The presets and the bright, clear LED display make it a cinch to use. It's great to also have the flexibility to easily override the preset times and cooking temperatures if you need to. We've used the toast, pizza and bake settings the most, and the results are consistently good.

Just as a side note, the recipes included in the instruction booklet are great too!

I had to give up my Cuisinart because it was so gosh- darn hard to clean. In fact it never looked clean after cleaning it! when i saw the Breville smart with caphlon coating and broiler pan with all the necessary cooking levels, I went for it! It is made well, and the cleaning is effortless. I didn't like to pay that much, but with my %20 coupon..I got it. Let me tell you I'm a happy customer. We are a retired couple..just us..but this baby can roast a 4 lb pork roast...delicious!

Our toaster was starting to die after 23 years of heavy use, and we made the decision to replace it with our first ever toaster oven. We couldn’t be more pleased with the Breville Compact Smart Oven. The unit takes up only about 6 more inches than our two slice toaster, but provides us with so much more utility. In the last three weeks, we’ve used it for (literally) perfect slices of toast, bagels, broiling sandwiches, quesadillas, warming rolls, and pizza. The pizza was my husband’s favorite - we make pizza every week with homemade dough, and the true test was if the Breville would crisp up the dough on the bottom, while being fully loaded with toppings. It passed the test with flying colors, and my husband may never go back to our conventional oven again.

We are delighted with our purchase, and would recommend it to anyone.

Tao of Toast - Raising Toast to a Spiritual Level

After a lot of research on this product, I concluded people were happy with it when it worked. Given the price, I was reluctant to take a chance on this product and decided I would be protected by the customer-committed, no-hassle return policy of BBB. You can't go wrong.

My wife was skeptical due to the price. Now, she admits she would buy it for toast alone. We are not young people but have not tasted anything like the toast that comes out of this oven. Seriously, it is crispy on the outside and still chewy on the inside. I don't know how to describe our first taste of toast from this unit except that it was a spiritual experience for both of us. Who knew toast could taste so good?

If you are looking for a cheap or adequate toaster oven to slap together toast for the kids as they rush out the door to school in the morning, this is not the toaster oven for you.

If, however, you are able to and do appreciate flowers on your table, wholesome food exquisitely and perfectly prepared, savoring each bite, gratitude and celebration of the simple goodness that comes when you pay attention, this is the toaster oven for you.

Purchased the Breville compact toaster oven two weeks ago and I love it. Our older toaster oven died. Never could make a toast or a bagel in it and they took forever. Right out of the box my bagels were done perfectly. Had guests for dinner and made the potatoes in the toaster oven. They turned out better than in a real oven. The Breville will get hot but not terribly so. Used it to heat dinner plates while the potatoes were cooking. Door hand does get hot. Wish I had bought this ten years ago.

This small oven is so far beyond most such
items, it's hard to compare.
Like all such ovens, it does get hot on the sides & top,but there is a good looking/useful cutting board that
protects the top from the heat. Its a good item to add to your purchase. The oven itself is so fast to heat, and with has great automated features that is makes me
wish I had bought this one years ago instead of wasting my money on another famous brand.

I chose this toaster oven based on the consistently high reviews, and I am so glad I did. We bought ours nearly a week ago and love it. (We use it mostly for toast & reheating stuff instead of using the microwave.) The settings are 'high tech,' but are actually very easy to use and pretty self-explanatory. (Watch the video, which does a great job describing how the settings work.) I love the consistency. In the past, every toaster oven I've owned has had dials with arbitrary settings, which made it difficult to know just where to put it. The result was usually burned toast 50% of the time. The Breville offers great control and flexibility, so you get predictable results--not charred bread. It also has a more solid, high-quality feel to it the $40 ovens don't have. It's worth a little extra money for this oven. One negative review I read mentioned the oven getting too hot on the exterior, but this is not a valid concern. The Breville does not get any hotter than the other 4+ toaster oven I've owned.

I have had my toaster over for almost a year now.. I absolutely LOVE it! I love the fact that it preheats quickly, cooks thoroughly and uses half of the electricity my electric over uses and is very easy to use! My husband tried to talk me into purchasing one 8 years ago when we moved into our new house.. I kept telling him we'd never use it enough and it would just be wasted money.. I was so WRONG (although I'll never tell him that)! We use it all the time. We rarely eat out and I cook at least two meals a day for a family of 5. I haven't used my regular oven in over 2 months! Every kitchen needs one!

I bought this oven for its size and look, but it does not perform as well as my previous toaster oven. It's ok for toast, muffins, and bagels, but it does not bake well. I use a thermometer to check the temperature. It is never as hot as the digital temperature that is indicated. I have to set it about 25 degrees higher than the temp I need. And it does not heat higher than 400. I wanted to bake biscuits at 425, but after 30 minutes it was still at 400 on the oven thermometer.

This little toaster oven is fantastic. I bought one, my mom bought two and now I am buying one for my son. That's how great I think it is. Super easy to use. High quality look and feel. Love some of the features, for example the Snowflake button that you press if the item is frozen. Then it takes that into account on the cooking time. Excellent labeling on where to put the shelf for each type of cooking. Makes toast better than the toaster does!

Unusual temperature management

My main use for a toaster oven is to reheat rolls, pastries, and other foods that I don't want to put in a microwave. I rarely use it to cook or bake. I discovered that when I reheated food at the temperature used with my old toaster oven - a different brand - it was not hot enough. I used an oven thermometer to check the temperature and found it was generally 25F degrees less than I'd set. I thought it was defective so exchanged the toaster oven for another. Same thing happened. I contacted Breville and was told this is normal. To avoid having food overcooked the oven tries to reach but not go over the set temperature, meaning it is often cooler than the target temp. I found when I set the temperature 25 degrees higher my food came out all right.

It is also the case that the preheating signal goes off when the temperature is about 75% of the target, again by design. Timing has to be adjusted to allow for this, since the oven will be much cooler than expected if the food is put in then.

The toaster oven has some nice features, such as a memory for the temperature and time last used, so I might recommend it for anyone willing to adjust to these quirks.

I was looking for a tabletop oven to use instead of my big oven for small jobs, but everything else that I found was a toy compared to the Breville. This thing is like a real oven, not some cheap toaster. You select the function (bake, broil, etc) and everything else is digital. It turns on just the elements that are needed for that function, and starts to preheat. When the preheat is done, it dings and starts the countdown timer. Nothing else that I found had this preheat signal feature; you just have to guess when the preheat is finished and hope that the oven is hot enough. That feature alone is worth the price for me. Everything I have baked in it so far has been perfect; it bakes small fish filets better than my big oven. So far I love it! My advice: Spend the extra money for the Breville and don't look back! And Breville makes a bigger oven if you need more space inside.

I just got this product home and tryed it out. It seems to do everything as advertised, however, it gets unbelievable hot on all sides of the oven. So hot, that if not warned, I am afraid someone not aware, will be burned. I am returning it because of this problem. When the mfg insulates it better, I would love to try it again.
