The chess pieces are battery-free, and the board can be powered with the included adapter or six AA batteries (not included). When removed from the board, the illumination of the chess pieces start to fade. Board measures approximately 15 3/4" W x 15 3/4" L x 1" H. Some assembly required. Ninety day limited warranty.
