Wow, I did not realize so many people had bought this same umbrella and have had the same experience as I have. I thought it was a good deal and the umbrella lasted quite a while until a big gust of wind blew and the top plastic part broke. I too tried to glue it only to find it lasted just a short time. I was going to buy a new one somewhere else, but after reading these reviews, I think I'll find my paperwork/receipt and return it to BB&B. Thank you for the reviews. Very helpful.

Poor quality. The pole that holds up the umbrella broke in half. The umbrella constantly moves in the SLIGHTEST wind. I do not recommend this umbrella to anyone. I just saw these were on clearance at the store too....there's a reason for that.

We purchased this umbrella and the base. The base cover broke after a few months due to wind lifting it off the 4 filled sand squares, and it was very brittle from the sun. The cantilever umbrella was hard to get up to full height and the pole rusted really easily, plastic looked really flimsy and based on other reviews we were lucky ours didn't break. We got rid of it at a garage sale for $50 after a year just so we didn't have it taking up room in our shed anymore....

I purchased the item in march of this year and had it up for a week. I was only open once to test it out. the day after having it up we had a really gusty day. The top plastic piece snapped and that was that. I read on line that the umbrella had a five year warrenty. I called Bed Bath Beyond and asked them what I should do. They said to bring it back to them for a exchange. I did and They placed a replacement order for my new umbrella. I am not to pleased about the item braking so quickly but the customer service was unexpected. I thought they were going to say tough luck but instead they place an order for my replacement. That was some great customer service!!!!. I just hope that the new one does not break.

I have only had this umbrella for a week. opened it for the first time today and strong breeze blew in and snapped the plastic top. I love the look and function of the product. however I fell it should be a little more durable. so very happy with the return policy of BB&B. looking forward hour of welcome shade.

I'm not sure yet, we really like the umbrella so far but the umbrella part of it does not stay stationary, any breeze makes the umbrella flap and move to a different direction. Did we do something wrong in setup, it should stay the way we want it to keep the sun off of us.

offset umbrella top broke

We are unhappy with the umbrella breaking in the top. We set it up in a cemented metal post for security but the top made of plastic that hold the umbrella in place broke. We called the 800 number and were told to take it to the store where we bought it for a replacement. We are taking it to Lakeland Fla which is far from us and do hope that we are able to find a replacement in the same color, chocolate.
We love to shop in that store so we dont mind to travel far. I will let you all know are experience returning the umbrella for a replacement as per told by the 800 number customer service rep. Thank you for caring.

Long time owner

We own this identical umbrella, purchased several years ago at another store, and I just wanted to say that we've had no trouble with the plastic fulcrum. The only problem we've had is that the cord is exposed to the weather at the top, and it has broken twice. Both times we've re-strung it using drapery cord, and it's lasted at least 2 years each time. The fabric has faded, but I feel that this is expected after at least 5 years of exposure to the sun, and we've been very careful not to open it if it's windy. We are considering buying another one from BB&B, and I'm very glad to see that their return policy is so easy in case we need it.

Here again, I reviewed earlier about returning the umbrella because no replacement parts are available, and WAS SO HAPPY when i got an even exchange. I now have a new umbrella, and was assured by the managers at my BB&B that this was their policy. If breaks again, i can exchange again>
ADVICE, keep your warranty paperwork, recipets not needed. SO happy.
THank you BB&B.

Plastic Fulcrum Also Broke

As the others below describe, the main weakness of this otherwise great umbrella's design is the plastic fulcrum at the top which also broke on the one my family has used. It is also apparently impossible to obtain a replacement part, which is perhaps to be expected for a product with such a low price.
Why such a part is made of plastic that seems so ready to break is unknown. Perhaps it is intentionally made of plastic so that it will break as some sort of controlled failure/safety feature. But if so, it would seem that getting the part replaced would be easy, but doing that is seemingly impossible.
Unlike some others, I would be reluctant to replace this product when back in season since, as reported below, even having it retracted in strong wind is not enough to prevent the piece from breaking.
Given the possibility of the umbrella breaking, falling, and then damaging other things under or near it, it seems to me to be better to replace this with a different product that does not have this type of clear design weakness.

I also bought this cantiliver umbrella, and a gust of wind broke the "plastic" piece that holds the ulmbrella up. I called the 1800 number to get a replacement part, which they said that they do not have replacement parts for the umbrellas, BUT to take to the store (BB&B) for an exchange for a new one. I was so exited and did this, but umbrellas are seasonal and are not in stock until mid-March, At that time I will take the broken umbrella back and Hopefully get my replacement. Wish me luck. The manager was very nice and did promise that he would exchange. I love the umbrella, so i am hopefully optimistic.

At first I loved this umbrella. I also purchased the big square base that you fill with sand to go with it, and had it on my wood pool deck. We used it for one summer. I had the umbrella open and a gust of wind blew it over and like another person stated, the plastic piece that allows you to slide the umbrella to be retracted snapped. If I was able to get a replacement part I would recommend this umbrella. So far I cannot locate the part and I am going to try and glue it together. It's too bad that a $5 part ruins an otherwise great unbrella.

I purchased (4) of the Cantilever Round Umbrellas last summer, (2) Salsa and (2) Chocolate. I set 3' poles in the ground and concreted them in. Then I bolted the bases to the poles. The umbrellas were a terrific addition to the pool side. Since they overhang from the garden, it allows way more usable room underneath for shade while alleviating the tree/leave issue during the winter. Anyhow, after a month or so, the color of the umbrellas had greatly deminished (bleached out)...not a big deal. However, they are not made for constant winds! I am now down to (1) usable umbrella since the plastic piece that allows the umbrella to slide and be retracted have all snapped. Its really unfortunate that you cant get repair parts for it but I suppose for the $80 minus that great 20% OFF coupon it's still worth it. I contacted the store to purchase more umbrellas but they are a Seasonal item. In short, I will be buying more of these but will now me more cognizant of the wind conditions since I have learned my leasson. I rated it 4 stars ONLY because of the price and not for it's quality.

I use and enjoy my umbrella, often.. It's easy to put up, but you must use two hands, and close. It does a great job of shading out the sun and light rain.. . My only issue: during an unually windy storm, it has broken at the fulcrum.. It was closed,,but that did not matter.
I am going to fix it and would not hesitate to purchase another(possibly different color)
