Fantastic unit

I've had this unit for several years and absolutely love it.
It keeps the humidity levels perfect and is the quietest unit I've ever used. The bonus is that there is no white film/dust after use with the included capsule. In fact, I've never changed the capsule and have no residue.

Since we bought it we moved to a drier climate and are now buying another one for our room as its in our kids room every night. Originally bought it per our pediatrician s suggestion to get one for cold/flu session. Now we need it for the climate.

Hubby just bought another brand that is loud, clunky, doesn't seem to humidify as well and runs out of water in one night. It's going strait back to the store and I'm buying another Sharper Image.

Before the first Sharper Image, we had a Vicks unit where the water condescend so much through the night that is soaked through two towels. It also left a horrible white dust. We don't have any of these problems with the Sharper Image.

Love love love and highly recommend.

I like the mist and the way it works but carpet is wet for several feet where it's positioned. Not sure if I will keep this. Going to have to find a stand for it and see if that helps.

To clarify with other reviewers, the reason you are getting the White Dust, per the Instruction Booklet, is that the demineralization capsule needs replaced. If you follow the instructions it is a great little unit. I have found if I turn it on to the half way mark the water will last 2 nights, all the way on -one night. Definitely a must-have here in Alaska!!

Althugh the unit increased the humidity, it left large quantities of white dust throughout the room. It's difficult to fill -holding the water well upside down and then right-side up to to install the tank back on the base. The biggest problem is mold buildup thoughout the tank and ultrasonic membrane. The water tank would start to look a bit cloudy after only two days and could be easily cleaned per instructions; however, the ultrasonic membrane--the whole compartment was completely covered with foul black mold when I went to clean it after three weeks as recommended in the manual. It was gross and there are many tiny openings too small for even small brushes to get into and clean. I purchased it in November 2012 and I won't be using it any more.

This cool mist humidfier is a godsend for my dry nose and allergies and can operate the entire night without having to be refilled. My only complaint is the overflow part- it would be nice if this would be part of the filtering process as it remains pretty full despite the tank being empty. I' m resourceful and dump what's leftover back into to the tank, but it should somehow work to disperse without having to do that.

Good Overall With Some Caveats

Comments:
About the white dust, this isn't necessarily a con of the product, just in general. Even though it comes with this carbon pill thing, the use of undistilled water will result in this 'white dust' getting all over things. The user manual makes mention of this as well so there's fair warning about it. Definitely use distilled water where possible.

I hate the reservoir design and how the opening is at the bottom. It is so awkward turning the reservoir upside down to fill it. I can see dropping this one day after I fill it and try to screw the cap on. Filling it up in a shallow sink and/or short faucet is also a bit of a challenge as well.

There is a noticeable noise coming from the pump, which for me, makes for a nice steady white noise at night. I don't mind it but some may have issues with it.

This thing really cranks out the humidity. I have about a 16x20 bedroom (to include bath area) that the humidifier has to contend with. If I leave it on high for a day it can actually get the room foggy. Having a cat in Arizona, she almost never makes it out from under the covers without getting static shocks. With the humidifier on for awhile, I pulled her out without a single static shock.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with it. I've only been using it for about a month now and I'm a bit leery about it's life expectancy given some other reviews here. I may also drill a hole in the top of the reservoir and get a plug for it so I don't have to deal with all the dripping water and awkward filling that comes with removing and refilling the reservoir.

I marked this product a yes for recommendation but there may be other more cost effective humidifiers out that are easier to refill.

Bought this humidifier to replace an older Holmes with a smelly and gross filter. Love the filterless concept and love this humidifier! It has a nice shape and is very VERY quiet. Seems to work well, and I haven't gotten any of the 'white dust' other reviewers talk about. The tank is a little awkward to fill up, but not that big of a deal. The only problem I have is that it makes a teeny tiny drip noise when the water drops from the tank into the reservoir tray. If you are a heavy sleeper, not a big deal. But it did bother me for the first few nights. Very fine mist and will last ~ 10 hours on a 3/4 full tank. I have been using it every night for 2 months and haven't had any problems.

Bought this humidifier twice, first one broke before I even used it. Second on lasted about 2 months and now makes horrible noises and barely any mist. Wouldn't recommend. Not worth the money. Suprised that Bedbath and Beyond would continue to stock after so many bad reviews. Very disappointed.

BEST Humidifer Ever!

I purchased The Sharper Image Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier 12-18-12 and this morning 12-19-12 I woke up very refreshed. My nasal passages were not dry and neither were my eyes. (NOTE: A hairdresser told me that a cool mist humidifer will help prevent dry hair). This humidifer is very, very quiet and and I like that I can use tap water. The nightlight is a very nice feature too.I told my co-worker/friend about this product today and she plans to pick up one tomorrow. This is the BEST humidifer I have ever purchased and I am very pleased. Kudos to Sharper Image! And thank you Bed Bath Beyond for the coupon!

Awesome humidifier, but design needs work

Regarding the humidifying function, this is the best unit I've used. It works extremely well, and is very quiet. The nightlight feature is nice too.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because filling the water tank can be a bit awkward. The top of the tank is rounded and cannot be set down to fill without you holding it in place while it fills up. It would be nice if they redesigned to make this happen.
I've had this for 3 years now, and I've only used filtered water in it. After reading some of the reviews that say the unit lasted a few months and/or got loud, I guess I should consider myself lucky.
Either way, I highly recommend!

Convenient and Helpful

I love this humidifier because it's small enough to move around easily but large enough to make a difference. The water chamber is very easy to refill because it has a convenient handle....you just lift it right off the unit without having to adjust anything. Once you take the chamber to the sink, the opening screws off easily to make it hassle free. Just hold it under the faucet for a quick refill and place it back onto the unit. I've had this unit for 2 winters and it's been very useful and easy to use. It's not the most quiet machine but it serves it's purpose. We just place it by the radiator and it counteracts the dry heat.

I'm so tired of Russian Roulette w/these humidifyers. This is the 4th unit I've purchased and have had the tank sprout cracks causing major flooding on my carpets! It works great w/mist control & correct amount of lighting. I love its design as well since it can fit anywhere & easy for traveling. But this unit only lasted about a month before the crack from the handle down the side! Then when I emptied it out, the entire seal around the base let loose & the bottom came completely off from the clear plastic part. I can't take it back as it was a gift & I don't have a receipt & it was a month since I recieved it as an early Christmas gift. I Hate how cheaply made these products are anymore! "Made In China", Whatever. Dont buy it

I love this Machine!!! I almost did not buy it after reading some of the reviews (so glad I did not listen to you all), however I did and I love it! It is very very quite and works just as advertised. I bought the humidifier for vanity reasons, I live in a very dry climate area and when I wake up in the morning my skin is like a baby! I am not much for writing reviews, however I wonder how many people that have positive experiences take the time to do so. I am very happy with my purchase, I feel it was money very well spent. I love it, but....

I received this as a wedding gift about 6 months ago. I think it does a great job on the humidification part. It is small and fits nicely on a nightstand. I was pleased to find out that the night light is optional and can be turned off. Here are the 2 downsides. The product boasts a 24 hour run time. This is only if you use a low to medium setting. If you have it cranked up to the highest setting do not expect it to last you a full night (8-9 hours) of sleep. The other issue is the "fill spot". The cap that gets unscrewed to put more water in is what sits in the base in a puddle of water. So, when the container needs lifted out for a refill water tends to drip all over the place. I've tried lifting and turning quickly and slowly- I still get drips off of the container. If the container had an opening to refill at the top this would be a stellar product.

We can't even stand the noise through the monitor! But after reading some of the reviews claiming it's quiet, I might go exchange it for another one of the same model & hope it's quieter, because that's really my only complaint.

I started using it for my toddler during his awful spell of colds last year. It worked great, No nasty filter to replace or more importantly to worry about mold etc. It did stop working, stopped pushing the humidity out, after one year (non continuous use). So, I returned it and got another. Newer one has been working fine. I do recommend changing the water daily though, even with the little bullet shaped water thing that comes with it, change the water daily to be safe. Also, buy the tiny bullet shaped thing (i think its for hard water) in a value pack and change often, depending on use. 4 will cost you like $15.00. Better to be safe with the hard water build up, but have had no problems.
