Love it!**Helpful Info regarding oven accuracy!

The general stuff... It's attractive if you have to have it out on display and the clean up is easy with the stainless exterior and a front loading pull out crumb tray. Regarding function-My uses for this oven have been pretty simple. Baking biscuits and cookies, heating a few convenience foods and toasting. I love that it preheats/bakes so much faster than my conventional gas oven as it saves us a great deal of time in the morning. Having gone from a family of 6 to just 3, it's great being able to bake just 1-2 biscuits or cookies for our son's lunch or as a quick treat, as any more than that would get thrown out long before they'd get eaten. Much less waste. I did find there was a bit of a learning curve to getting some things just right, but it really didn't take long. Because of that learning curve (and the fact that there were several complaints about inaccurate oven temps) I decided to test the oven temp using an oven thermometer I had that I knew was accurate, as it was always dead on in my gas oven. I was surprised to find that the oven would signal it was pre-heated long before the oven thermometer would reach the set temp, yet I was still getting good results. How could that be?! Despite the good results, I was concerned that there may have been an issue with my particular oven so I searched the Breville website for information and found the following in response to a post complaining about the preheat indicator signaling long before the oven had reached the set temp.
Breville's response:
"The Preheat signal sounds at 75% of the target temperature. You may not be allowing enough time for the oven to reach target temperature. For complete temperature stabilization at the max temperature of 450F from start-up, including opening the door at the pre-heat signal, and then allowing full temp recovery it takes 10 minutes to stabilize.
Why does the Preheat sound at 75% of the target temp? The software of the oven is optimized to provide the user with the fastest heat-up time to cook a given item. The critical factor to consider is that after the preheat time is indicated, and the door is opened, the temperature inside the oven drops dramatically. When the door is closed the oven must then recover back to the target temperature. This happens with every oven, big or small. By notifying the customer at the 75% mark we achieve the fastest overall cooking time."
Then a follow-up question ....
"So, are we supposed to put the food in the oven at the 75% mark when the beeper sounds or do we wait until we think it's reached maximum temperature??"
Breville's follow-up:
"This pre-heat indicator is when you should put your food into the oven. If you wait until it reaches set temperature to open the door for the oven, you will lose a lot of the contained heat, and it will have to try to stabilize in order to reach that heat again. With testing in our machines, our engineers have found that putting food in when the beep sounds is the best time to cook the fastest and most efficiently with our ovens."
So sure enough, I tested mine again and it signaled at exactly 75% of the set temp. Well there you go!

I love this toaster oven so much that I recommended it to my son & daughter-in-law (and anyone else that might be looking for a toaster oven!). Since it is just my husband & I at home now, this oven is perfect for us for pork chops, baked potatoes, toast or pretty much anything you would cook in a regular oven. Because it's just us we don't need to use the big oven therefore the house doesn't get heated up. Everything I have tried turns out as good if not better than when cooked in the big oven. And if something needs to be done quickly, the convection oven works like a charm! My son & daughter-in-law love theirs as well. I have had mine a little over 2 years now. I would not hesitate to buy Breville products for any other appliance we may need.

If there is anything this oven does not do well, I have yet to find it. I have never seen anything make a perfect bagel but this does. Also, the time it saves by not heating up the main oven is awesome. I know it is a little pricey but it is worth it.

We used the unit daily for about 2 years then the top 2 heating elements stopped. I would have liked to repair it myself but there are no repair parts available. The only option is to send it to a service center for repair. It's not worth the hassle and expense to box it up and send in. I thought for $250 it should have lasted longer, maybe 5 years.
I brought it back to Bed Bath and Beyond, and they replaced it for me yesterday with no questions asked!
I am very impressed with BBB return policy and the people working there. Thank you BBB.

We've had this toaster oven for about 2 years and have had no problems at all. We use it about 90% of the time over the oven. We use it to bake cookies, heat frozen foods, anything will cook in this oven as long as it fits. We don't use the convection very often only because we're not sure of the cook time. It also looks very nice on the counter. All of our small appliances are Breville.

Just purchased this yesterday and not sorry at all!! My previous toaster oven was a kitchen aid and didn't perform as I would have expected....so I bought this one. So very glad I did!! Toasted a bagel to perfection! I look forward to preparing other things in this oven. It's sleek, easy to use dials make sense,I can see the temperature clearly. I was initially put off by the price but you can use the 20% coupons that they send you. I spent 100 on the kitchen aid and it didn't work right. So glad I purchased this....you will be too! Happy toasting, roasting and baking!

I just purchased this Smart Toaster oven and it is everthing I wished for and more, very quiet, controls are easy to use and so far did not get hot on the top of the oven. This is a big improvement from my little Oster where the handle melted off when I tried to broil a piece of chicken. This is well built and sturdy and a hands down winner in my opinion.

I purchased this oven over a month ago because my Krups toaster ovens heating elements exploded almost causing me bodily injury, yet their customer service would not assist me in any way. I went out and bought this Breville oven. It costs slightly more but what an awesome purchase. It is well made, durable. easy to use and everything comes out perfect!
It too can accomodate a 15" pizza and even bake a cake. You would think it would look bulky yet it doesn't. I am now a huge fan of Breville and just bought one of their juicer's, it too is fantastic. Do yourself a favor. If you are in need of a new toaster oven, buy this one. I have cycled through many over the years and can tell this one will last!

I'm so grateful people take the time to write reviews on products. It really helps me to make decisions. If the reviews have negative points, at least I can make an educated decision if I choose to buy the product. I read the great reviews on this product. I bought it, and it is all that people have said it is. It is wonderful. It quietly cooks without uneven spots. It reminds me of a quiet faithful workhorse. I too bought it with the 20% off coupon. I trust it will be in my kitchen for many years to come. I'm glad I abandoned all the cheaper products that failed over and over in short time. They just can't deliver the quality you want. You have to spend the big bucks to get this quality product. You won't be sorry.

i looked at many toaster ovens on line and in different stores.many of them were low quality, lightweight and flimsy. you get what you pay for. when i saw the Breville Toaster Smart Oven BOV800XL it was a no brainer. it is so well made and user friendly. it's fast. don't let the three dials make you nervous. watch all of the Breville company videos on the oven at the USA web site and also go to the Australia web site videos. Adele Schober the info-babe in the videos will make you want to buy it! the technical videos are also very informative how it is made and why it is so much better than other toaster oven brands. i bought mine with a 20% off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond. so sign up for their e-mail specials, store specials and coupons. i also purchased a Pyrex 2 qt casserole dish with glass lid # 71160 05577. it is the perfect size for the oven. also buy the 13'' inch pizza stone. this oven is worth the investment. i use it everyday. it is faster than firing up the big oven. for people who do not like microwave ovens this is perfect. it is everything the company says.

I bought this Toaster oven after needing a second oven when I entertain. I LOVE it! besides just toast, Ive used it for pizzas, casseroles, brownies ,cookies cakes.. Everything turns out perfect! I hardly turn my Thermadore oven on!. Heats up quickly, its quiet, large enough for most items! My only con is it does get hot to the touch. So storing things on the top are edgy. I LOVE this item. It has sold me on other Brevelle Items!

Don't know if it has saved any $$ but i do know they LOVE it they have thanked me a number of times. Had a 20% coupon so took the plunge.

Died after one year

This was an average toaster oven, not worth the $200 I spent on it, but it was OK. Then it completely died after one year and a few days. Breville pretty much told me 'too bad' because the warranty had expired by one week. That sucks. I noticed that the Cuisinart has a three year warranty, so you know which one I'll be buying next.
I really can't believe Breville didn't at least offer me a coupon, or offer me a refurbished model at a discounted price. That would have kept me as a customer, but now I'm gone...

We have been use to having 2 ovens in a kitchen for a long time. The house we are currently living in has only one oven. With the holidays and having a lot of company, we decided to purchase this toaster oven to help with the cooking so all the food would be hot when it went to the table. This is the best! We read all of the reviews and this oven performed better than expected. All of the food we cooked came out hot and evenly cooked. Couldn't have asked for a better toaster oven.

When I opened the carton, I discovered the oven had been packed and shipped by Breville with a damaged broiler pan. The instructions in the box asked me not to return it to the retailer; but to contact Breville. I attempted to do this. When I did not receive a timely reply to my email, I called them, and waited on hold for the “next available person” for over 20 minutes, I took the oven back to Bed Bath & Beyond. They very willingly exchanged the damaged product. Luckily, they understand customer service. Apparently, Breville does not.

Yep ...Our Breville 800XL just Died

As someone else wrote: It was great until it stopped working.
After 2 years it died. I was baking 2 chicken breast last week and it just shut off. No indication of anything wrong, the lights just went out...and that was that. The thing I noticed after it shut itself off was that the back was very Hot.
No reason for that as it had plenty of room around it and its been in that same spot for 2 yrs.
It always did get too hot on the top while baking as others have mentioned. And it really did not toast well but it always baked very well. And I loved its good looks.
So now what? $250 and only 2 years of use. Our last one, a different manufacturer, lasted 5 years and was less then 1/2 the cost of the Breville.
I could not find a US Breville company to call to ask..What happened?
So its over, not much one can do if its not made here in the US. I now have to look for a replacement. I loved its looks the baking but not it's life span.
So my advice unless you got money to burn and can buy a new one every couple of years keep researching....and buy one that's made in the U.S.A. at least then you have someone to call to see if its repairable.

I have had every brand imaginable over the years and this one is the best. As to Revmag's review below, I had the same problem until I finally realized what I was seeing was a plastic cover over the display. It looks just the the normal display. They should put something about removing this plastic as it is confusing.

I had the Smart Oven for less than a year and liked it very much for its size and versatility. Then it simply died -- no power, no nothing. We were in the middle of packing for an out of state move or I would have returned it to Bed Bath and Beyond for a refund -- this is totally unacceptable for a toaster oven in this price range.
