I prefer the glass bulbs!

The newer version has Christmas-tree style bulbs (super small, low light) covered by a plastic globe which mimics the look of the g30 globe bulbs, but without the glass breakage. Unfortunately the tiny bulbs put out a small fraction of the light that the glass globe bulbs did, so these newer lights are useless to me, but would be great for ambient lighting.

I love these lights but the one complaint I have is that the blubs break VERY easy!! But they still work if one is missing (OR broken) and you can buy new bulbs at any hardware store.

Bulbs Easily Break

After using the lights twice on our umbrella, we've had 6 bulbs break. We like the look it creates, but the clips do not hold onto the umbrella very well and the entire strand falls, and then the bulbs easily break. We had one bulb break just taking it out of the box over the grass when it hit another bulb. The box came with 2 extra bulbs, but cannot find replacement bulbs from our home improvement store. We ended up buying traditional Christmas-type lights instead so we don't worry about the bulbs falling and breaking.

love them!! purchased one set for outdoor bar and was surprised how good they look that we now have purchased three more sets for the rest of our umbrellas!!! our yard with inground pool and these lights make me want to drink a beer!! Lots of fun!! Bulbs will break but are easy to replace!!!

The lights were beautiful when hung up on the umbrella. When we closed the umbrella we left the lights attached but when we went to open the umbrella again the lights fell off of the umbrella and hit the table and broke. The clips that hold the lights to your umbrella are not very sturdy. I would recommend getting better quality clips, or take your lights off when your ready to close your umbrealla. They do come with extra light bulbs so that was great.
