I had gotten one of these Ronco Dehydrators in 1993, and it was still working fantastically in 2010. I have to replace it since it was left (as well as the majority of my possessions) when my house was foreclosed upon thanks to my ex. I used it for absolutely everything! I even used it to dehydrate roses and flowers for my wedding bouquets and church decorations.
I love the fact it has no fan. There are some food items you do not want to dry too quickly, and also, a fan will splay rose petals and other florals before they have a chance to dry, so the blooms will be too far open instead of a nice, lovely barely-open bloom that will stay intact during handling and arrangement.
As for drying food, I have made jerky, dehydrated fruits, chile peppers, and herbs. I like the graduated grate spaces that allows more even drying for items of different kinds, thicknesses, and moisture content, and the vent on top has a covering that moves so you can control how fast your items dry. One can also make yogurt in this by using the spacer rings to allow enough height for the containers that hold your cultured milk.
The trays can go in the dishwasher, but I always hand washed them with a kitchen or veggie brush. Clean up is quick and easy, even after drying meats. Take good care of this appliance, and it will last you many years!
I wished so many times that I still had mine back... so I am picking up another of these Ronco Dehydrators to replace it.

Save yourself the trouble

What the website is not telling you is that this is the Ronco Food Dehydrator. Also, it only comes with a 1-year warranty, not 10-year as the site describes. The issue I have with this dehydrator is that, like most cheap ones, you must rotate the trays to get an even dehydration. For a busy person like myself, that's not always possible.
Take my advice, spend the extra $20 and get the Nesco American Harvest Snackmaster. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=113612&RN=73&
