Taking It Back For A Refund - Before First Use

I'm not looking for a fancy blender. I just need something inexpensive that I can use two or three times a month. The Hamilton Beach White 10 Speed blender (Model # 50161N) fit both my needs and my budgetary considerations perfectly. I bought it, took it home, got it out of the box, and looked it over as I was getting ready to clean it before using it. I noticed the cutouts in the lid which allow you to pour or strain liquids without having to remove the lid. I thought, "hey, that's a neat touch". For more than 20 years I've cleaned my blenders the same way - I fill the jar about a third of the way up with warm to hot water, put a couple drops of dish soap in it, put the jar on the base, and turn it on for a few seconds. The blender essentially cleans itself. I take it off the base, shake it a couple of times, take off the lid, pour the soapy water down the drain (or into the sink to wash more dishes with), rinse the jar, dry it, and it's ready to go. NOT with the the Hamilton Beach White 10 Speed Model # 50161N. Those cutouts I thought were so neat? They allowed water to squirt out. Out between the lid and the jar, down the jar, onto the base (hello electricity), and onto the counter. No electrocution (whew) as the water ran down the sides and missed the buttons. In the two or three seconds it was running about two tablespoons squirted out. I pressed down on the lid to make sure I put it on correctly and tried again. Same result. A couple more tablespoons of liquid squirted out. I dumped the soapy water down the drain, rinsed it out, dried it off, put it back in the box, and created a Bed Bath and Beyond account specifically to offer my opinion. Now I'm going to finish up, log off, get back in the car, and return it to the store for a refund. Bye.

I HATE this blender. I am thinking about just throwing it out. the good just sits in the middle-nothing moves-with yogurt and fruit, for instance. you can stir yourself and keep changing position of food, but it doesn't help...just splatters all over the inside.

It doesn't grind well. Everytime I try to prepare a smooth, for example, there are pieces of fruit. It's also very instable; it seems like it will fall down. It's not a good product at all!

I just got this blender and it was an extremely good value. It is noisy and takes a bit of time to crush ice, but I expected that and was glad I didn't have too pay much. Great for fruit smoothies. Easy to clean.

Blends up 8 ice cubes and a banana for my morning protein shake perfectly. No ice chunks at all - better than a more expensive blender I have used. I like that the pitcher is one piece and you can put it right in the dishwasher. And you simply can't beat the price.

We use this blender to make smoothies at several of our nutrition clubs! It is easy to use. The jar and the blades are combined so no taking apart gaskets etc. It makes awesome smoothies with no chunks! We suggest this blender to all of our customers when they take home products to make at home! We want them to have the best smoothie available and this is the best blender we have found for that!

I am representing a rather large group of Firefighters who use this little blender everyday about 4 - 8 times a day making everything from iced workout smoothies to fresh salsa to vinegarette's. This blender has superior power to all the other blenders we've tried in its class. The only faults we found are: if it sits on the heater element on the bottom of the dish washer it WILL melt, and if you decide to freeze the entire contents of the jar then put it back on the base and turn it on the motor WILL strip out the mixer tongs due to the power it produces. Both will call for a new jar replacement.. and at $20.00 you can buy a entire new unit or in our case if you write a nice letter to the company they may choose to replace it for you, thank you Hamilton Beach!!!

I wish I could give this blender 0 stars but that is not an option. I got this blender for Christmas and used it for the first time today. I was attempting to make frozen coffee. The container wasn't even halfway full when I turned it on. The moment I turned it on it sprayed everywhere. I made sure everything was secure thinking I had just not closed something properly and tried it a second time. The exact same thing happened..I will be returning this blender tomorrow. DO NOT BUY THIS BLENDER!!!

Frankly speaking, all I do with blenders is make smoothies and shakes and maybe crush ice once in awhile, so for my needs this is a great blender. I can see where it wouldn't hold up to more gourmet uses, but as a simple blender it works just fine. I have fewer ice chunks with this blender than I did in my older one, and I like the design of the pitcher - it's easy to pick up, and the pitcher and the blades are one part. Since it's dishwasher-safe it's an easy clean-up. Sure you could buy a better blender, but this is cheap and simple and I haven't had any problems at all.

I bought this little blender specifically because the pitcher was made out of plastic (my kids broke 2 other blenders with glass pitchers). I needed something that could handle liquifying frozen fruits and veggies or ice and I think it works great. Much better than I thought actually. Certainly on par with my other blenders (which were probably in the $75 range). Plus I used my 20% off coupon so it cost a little over $16. I personally like the wider pitcher base because the frozen foods do not get stuck like they have in blenders with smaller bases. I use it a few times a week and it does the trick. I'm happily surprised and pleased with my purchase.

I've had other Hamilton Beach blenders before, and I loved them! However, this one really disappointed me after only one use. The jar is ill-shaped to encourage any mixing beyond 1.5 seconds because the base is very wide. I had to use the ice breaker (medium) speed for only a couple seconds at a time to make a smoothie (which really needs to be on a high speed for 30 seconds strait). I'm going to take this one back and get something with a vortex-shaped jar, even if it costs a lot!
