Customer Reviews for KitchenAid KitchenAid® Pro Line™ Coffee Mill

KitchenAid KitchenAid® Pro Line™ Coffee Mill

This high quality, die cast metal coffee grinder uses large 2 1/4" commercial stainless steel cutting burrs which offer longer life and deliver superb grind consistency. The burrs can be easily calibrated to 15 different grind levels. They work at a low, controlled 450-rpm which is not only less noisy, but also minimizes frictional heating of grinds thus preserving the flavor and aroma of your coffee. Special helical gear controls the delivery of the coffee to the burrs for better grind consistency. Glass hopper and coffee bin with positive bin seal minimize any static cling of grounds and prevents them from escaping. Burrs are simple to access for cleaning. 2-year replacement warranty. For household use only. UL listed. Model KPCG100OB.

Great power

Very good power and flat grinder. All beans don't feed into grinder unless pushed by my fingers or the brush. The grind is coarser than the numbers reflect. Coarse is very coarse. Drip grind settings are too coarse. Espresso grind is too coarse for espresso. Having said that, it is easy to follow the instructions and calibrate to my preference. Lastly, the ground container is ill engineered. It does not catch all the freshly ground beans. It is the slowest and most powerful grinder available. This is very good ensuring no beams are burned in the grinding process. It is simply taking me a ltttle while to adjust to this commercial grade piece.

I have owned my Kitchen Aid Pro Line coffee grinder for three years and it is an EXCELLENT machine. NO problems of any kind. And it's used everyday. I'm a coffee fanatic. I roast my own green beans and I enjoy every cup of coffee. The best thing about the Kitchen Aid is the versatility from going from Espresso, French Press and Drip Grinds all at a finger tip. The consistency is bar none. The only problem is availability. Online only. Well worth the price when factored over a lifetime of non commercial use.

IMHO, the KitchenAid Pro Line KPCG100OB is the best coffee grinder you can buy.
-- THE GOOD --
Excellent grind consistency: the coffee grinds are exactly what you choose and only what you choose. This means your coffee will taste the way it's *supposed* to taste- beautiful. Many coffee grinders give you a random ratio of powder-fine grinds no matter what grind you actually select. This annoying deficiency results in erratic, inaccurate and bad taste/flavor. That will not happen w/ this unit. Bean grind is perfect.
No post-grind mess: when you're done grinding, you're done grinding. There's no post-grind cleanup routine to "enjoy" like w/ other units. Both the hopper and collection bowls are glass, not plastic- that means no static. The consistent grinds will fall like rain into the glass bowl and pour back out just as easily. No more coffee grinds shooting into a plastic resevoir, creating ruthless static cling and making your grinds fly all over the place like popcorn as you try to sweep them out! That also will not happen with this unit. Take that extra minute or so you normally spend on post-grind cleanup and kiss your wife/husband goodbye before you leave for work.
Elegantly simple: it's smaller than the picture implies- no taller than 8-10 cup coffee maker. This unit has a single metal on/off flip switch and a manual rotary grind selector dial- that's it. It turns on. It turns off. There's no timer, no electronic-doser, no digital grind selector, no auto-this and no auto-that. You know what that means? It means there's no cheap circuit board to blow out when your power goes out! I've never understood the fascination w/ timers, auto-dosing, etc. on a premium coffee grinder. All of that garbage requires your beans or grinds to be sitting in the hopper losing flavor! Unacceptable!! The small footprint means you can store this right next to your coffee machine w/out sacrificing counter space. The intuitive simplicity of this unit makes all other coffee grinder look ridiculous and flawed.
Superb construction: everything on this unit (except for bottom bowl) is heavy-duty. Ever look at an appliance and think, "Why did they make this piece out of plastic??" You will *never* ask that question
w/ this unit. Solid construction everywhere. Heavy-duty power switch, heavy-duty motor & grind assembly, heavy-duty glass hopper, even the power cord- it's the same one as your table saw's (just as long, too)! The heavy-duty grind selector dial stays in place and has smooth, sturdy, tactile feedback.
Relatively quiet: you're not going to put a baby to sleep w/ any coffee grinder, but the heavy-duty construction and materials of this unit dampens the motor noise. All that heavy-duty means effortless and smooth grinding to make quick work of your dose. Very important in the morning when others are sleeping. The slower rotation of the grinder means there's no high shrill noise. Blade coffee grinders and cheap burr coffee grinder users- you know what I'm talking about.
Very easy cleaning: extremely simple, intuitive design makes the cleaning process a fast pleasure. Many other coffee grinders have ridiculous nooks and crannies to clean and the disassembly is awful. Precision screwdrivers, anyone? This unit *far exceeds* any other coffee grinder in this aspect.
-- THE BAD --
Collection bowl: the glass is pretty thin and completely out of step w/ the rest of the unit- heavy duty! Come on, KitchenAid- make the bowl thick and heavy-duty like everything else. Duh.
Collection bowl seal: the spring-loaded black plastic ring seal that prevents coffee grinds from escaping the collection bowl is *not closed* like the description/specs indicate. There is a gap between the lip of the collection bowl and the ring seal- it is a design flaw. I only bring this up because KitchenAid says "closed seal". It ain't. But it's a non-issue because coffee grinds fall into the bowl, they don't shoot into the bowl. Grinds will never "miss" the bowl unless the bowl is physically bumped off the platform.
-- THE WRAP --
This product is awesome and doesn't deserve to be buried in an online-only catalog for Bed Bath and Beyond. If KitchenAid fixed "THE BAD", this is product of the year, baby! I promise you, several foo-foo brands of coffee grinders could take a lesson from the KitchenAid Pro Line KPCG100OB. Those of you looking at foo-foo brands because you've given up on the mainstream brands- don't turn your nose up at "KitchenAid". You will love this unit and you'll probably buy one for someone else. If you're a crazy coffee-loving maniac. Like me.
