I've owned this machine for just over 3 years now. Its used 4-5 times a week. Never an issue. I see a lot of poor reviews but would assume some are just user error, or not knowing how to properly make an espresso/cap. If you are not sure on the correct grind buy pre-ground espresso.
I only run spring water from a 5 gal dispenser we have in the kitchen, and the machine gets vinegar/water solution about twice a year to clean out the pump system. The water in my area is too hard for this type of appliance, it will kill the pump system. This is important if you have hard water (calcium deposits around the shower head, etc.) You cannot use tap water.
I would hesitate spending more money on another machine unless you get equal warranty (3 yrs form Cuisinart). I also made the purchase with a credit card that automatically adds another
year to the warranty. Besides warranty, BBnB stands behind anything they sell. Use a 20 percent of coupon and get it for $180.

I won my machine at a fundraiser....and I'm pretty sure it was either used or a floor model becuase it was missing some parts. I ordered the parts on Amazon and have been happily making lattes since. At first, I didn't understand how to use it and it took some time to get used to. You have to hit buttons in the right order for it to do what you need it to do. A lot of people reviewing are complaining about the wand not working...They mightn ot realize that you have to clean it...naturally, steaming milk can clog the wand. My only issues with my machine is that it only beeps after it has run out of water....I wish i would beep sooner so I dont relaize halfway through brewing that I'm out of water. Also the maching puts all of the excess hot water from steam into the drip pan and it fills up easily. Sometimes if you're not good about dumping it, it overflows. I would highly recommend this product from my experience with it. For the pirce you are getting an attractive espresso machine that is user friendly.

I wanted a step up from steam machines. I drink a Latte every morning and the steam function is very important to me. The steam part does not work as the directions state, and takes a long time. The other buttons do not always work as they are supposed to. Am going to return it. After 3 days. I am disappointed. $250 is a lot of money to be spending for something that does not work ads the directions state. .

Spend a Little Extra on a Better One

It works ok, not great. The steamer takes a really long time to get anything hot, and it doesn't have many features. If you're going to spend $250, spend a little extra and get the next step up.

This is the second Cuisinart I have had to return. The second machine is having the same issues as the first. Unreliable consistency in working. The unit heats up as if it is going to work and then all lights start blinking and it shuts down. When it works it is wonderful.

After 4 bad units, we bought a Breville

We had 4 of these espresso makers. Return after return we kept trying for a good unit because for the price, it is a decent machine and BB&B was fantastic about exchanges. One started smoking. One would drip water out of the steamer when brewing. One started making a terrible noise when steaming and sounded like it would break or start on fire soon. One had a seized steam dial. ALL 4 rusted/flaked on the drip tray. ALL 4 leaked underneath the drip tray (making it useless). ALL 4 had finicky temperature issues where it would overheat after steaming and any subsequent espresso shots would turn out bad, meaning if you wanted to make 2 drinks, you had to do 2 espressos then 2 steams in that order. Don't event think about making 3 drinks. We delt with the small issues because as I said, it's a decent machine for the price (when it works). If you have the money, invest in something nicer and steer clear of this machine.

This is my second Cuisinart espresso machine (first one broke in a transcountry move). Programmable to adjust quantity of water in the brew, easy to clean, convenient steam or hot water feature.

Decent, but not great

I haven't had the difficulties with my unit as many others have described, but I use it only a few times per week. I purchased mine in late 2011.
I only use freshly roasted beans and it produces good shots and crema for the latte's I typically drink. However, when making several drinks in a row, the espresso sputters out, making for almost no crema and a messy cleanup. Since 95% of the time it's one drink for me, this isn't too big of a deal.
The water tank is nice sized to make about a weeks worth of drinks and steaming. I liked the accessories, including the tiny pin to poke out the steamer want spout when milk gets gunked up.
If I were to buy an espresso machine again, I'd opt for a different model, though. Perhaps one with the grinder built in - and odds are good enough (based on the other reviews) there's some serious design flaws with this unit.

The worst

This was my second time with this machine! The first one just died without notice...but It was so good that we decided to trust it again, and one day, a few months after we bought it, while making some cappuchino...the machine started shaking so hard that I thought it was going to take off! and then it died! They make delicious cappuchinos but they will die on you, I promise you. So after the second machine died, I didn't know what to do, and I went to BB&B and they refunded me the money. NEVER buy this brand again.

Broke and Poor Service from Cuisinart

We purchased this item with gift cards from our wedding. I read through all the manuals and the dvd and still could not get real espresso. After several months, it broke and flooded my kitchen counter. I called Cuisinart as I registered it and the purchase was within warranty. The customer service rep explained that I would need to send her $10 for the replacement and pay to ship the broken model back to them ($30-40 based on weight). So... the broken machine under warranty that never worked correctly in the first place would cost me another $50 to get a replacement that also would not work correctly. Luckily, Bed Bath and Beyond said we could bring in the broken machine and exchange it free of charge. At least some companies still understand customer service.

First the good part, the machine really looks nice, thats it. Now for the rest, the machine makes a lot of noise, and the coffee was never really hot. Then it stopped working altogether, Cuisinart did not stand by their product, but BB&B did.

This machine caught on fire internally 4 months after purchase. Took it back to BB&B and exchanged it for another of the same model with no problems. The new machine is beginning to make strange zapping noises after another 4 months and is now leaking water so I guess I will be doing another exchange soon and will definitely go for a DeLonghi this time (have had several in the past and they have lasted and are still sitting around as backups)

Warranty policy is terrible and based on the experience I am havimg with thos espresso machine i will NEVER purchase another item sold by cuisinart. Selling me a defective product (milk steamer failed in 9 months) then. Not providing me a local repair center and finally charging me to recieve a new unit (which you apparently have no faith in as it does not have a new unit warrenty) . Best ad For kitchen aid and delongi ever! If you can set up a distribution chain those same people should be able to handle warrenty claims.

Breaks after a month...

The Machine is not bad at first. It is fairly quick and espresso is strong but without much creme on top.
The first thing you notice is that as soon as you turn it on, it is ready to make coffee in about a minute, but if you want to steam milk first, like I do, you need to push another button and it takes another minute for the steamer to be ready...
Now comes the main problem: The knob on the side of the unit is way too hard to switch. You really have to apply pressure and it feels like it is stuck most of the time. After the steaming is done, you have to switch back to the "off" position. It is still hard to switch off.
After a month or so of use, the knob doesn't fully go back to the off position and when you are making coffee, the water comes out of the steamer spout making a mess and the coffee is not made. If the milk pitcher is still there, the milk will get watered down and be ruined...
This is the 3rd machine I have exchanged in 3 months... This time I am exchanging for another one. I am tired of the problems it has...
You buy cheap, you get cheap.
Don't buy it...
Hope this helps...
Cheers

This is the 2nd machine in 7 months that has broken. The first one, constantly leaked water out of the steam wand. Bed, Bath & Beyond allowed me to exchange it for the same machine. Now this machine has died within 5 months. It worked great for 4 1/2 months then suddenly stopped working. There is not enough pressure to push the water through the grounds. Definitely would not recommend buying.

Don't Waste Your Money

I's giving this product one star only because the review can't be posted without that minimal rating.
I experienced the same problems as others. The machine leaked (under the drip pan) from the time that I got it. I make one cup per day. After a few weeks, hot water would expell from the frother, regardless of whether I pressed the "manual," "single," or "double" buttons.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the receipt, but Bed, Bath & Beyond honored the return anyway. I read reviews for other espresso makers in the same price range on this website before I took the machine back, and decided that DeLonghi had the best overall reviews. The only one in stock at my local BB&B was the DeLonghi Coffee Center, with both a 10-cup coffee maker and espresso maker. I love it!
The DeLonghi doesn't take up that much more space on my counter. It is very solidly made. I used it for the first time this morning and am so impressed! Best frother, hands down, of any machine that I've tried!
