My test was to make Pico Digaio, Tomatoes with chefs Knife was amazingly thin very pleased with the amount of effort i had to put in which was none the weight of the Knife takes care of it. My onions came out beautiful. I know that there are better Knives out there but these were in my price range and I am pleased. I am verry happy with Knives. I see People complain about rust but key is dont let them sit with acid on them keep wet and dry rag around wipe dry. Never put in dishwasher

I got these off of my registry and have been using them for 7 months. They come with a great array or knifes and the knife block is sturdy and nice looking. I gave it 3 stars because after 7 months I am noticing rust on the blades, I would go with another knife set for this reason.

We received these as a wedding gift. Though I loved that they were labeled on the ends, the look and comfort, they began to rust within 2 months. They were hand washed every time with a non scented or citrus based soap as people have recommended. I decided to buy different knives the second time around. I have had better luck with my 70-80$ knife block in the past. Not crazy about that but BBB was great about returning them for store credit.

We originally received this knife set off our registry in July 2012. By December, many of the knives have begun to rust. I took them back to BB&B and exchanged them for the same set. I love the knives; however, with my new set, I will not put them in dishwasher and I am confident we will not have the same issue with rust as the first set. Overall, great product; but I would suggest the manufacture recommends not putting them in dishwasher.

This knife block wonderful. We hand wash the knives and they still look like new. The block came with a cheese board and 2 knife kit for free - $50 value - and we filled the 2 empty holes with those knives. We are so very pleased with this knife block and definitely recommend it.

I have had a set for several years and can tell you that they handle and hold up well. I wash by hand and they still look new. One disclaimer, the German steel is made in China. The metal is a bit porous in several of my knives, sometimes leaving a small area of rough edge when sharpening(1mm length or less). When I wrote to Calphalon regarding this, I never received a reply. All in all, I would buy again at this price for this quality.

We received this knife set as a wedding gift. I had done lots of research on what the best brands were. We've had these knives for over 6 months now. We use them every day and they've held up great. We don't put them in the dishwasher. We always wash them by hand and we try to not leave them dirty in the sink too long. But so far they've been great. They look nice and they're very sharp! I would definitely recommend these!

Good for everyday cooking

I got this set as a gift 4 years ago. This set is fine for just what I call "everyday" cooking. I am not a chef nor do I need to use these 7 days a week. For the price they are very good. I have purchased more "high end" knifes for special cuts (thin slicing meats). I did get rust spots in the paring and steak knifes (in the first year), then I found that if you do not place them in the dishwasher it does not happen. So, just because something is dishwasher safe does not mean you should always wash it there. It takes me seconds to hand wash and I have not seen rust in years.

I got these knives right after we got married 2.5 years ago and at first I was super happy with them. I agree about the rust spots, but they actually go away after a few washings, so I dont think it's that big of a deal. What I have noticed lately is that there are chips in the blades! I am extremely disappointed to see this! I am going to be returning them and purchasing another set.

Great Set for the price

Rreceived these knives for Christmas 2010, have used them every day for over a year now and LOVE them. bought my son a set and am now buying another for a friend. Okay, the details... NEVER put them in the dishwasher! Hand wash and dry before putting them in the block & you will not get rust spots (as stated in some prior reviews). The steak knives are not german steel so they do require a bit more attention (sharpening) but are still great. The labels on the rest of the knives are great; these knives just feel great when you're using them. The only CON - the scissor stinks, replaced it in the block with one I bought separately. But that was not enough of a problem to make me mark down the rating. If you want a really good set of knives but don't want to spend $400 these will fill the bill. Perfect for the home kitchen!

My husband and I have a favorite phrase when it comes to buying stuff for our home- "you get what you pay for". That statement has never been more true than with this purchase! I LOVE this set of knives! The Calphalon brand is very popular in my house, and always surpasses our expectations. If you're looking for a new knive set, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this set! It's truly an investment in your home. Only piece of advice, only hand wash, the handles might fade a little.
