Customer Reviews for Air-O-Swiss Air-O-Swiss Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier

Air-O-Swiss Air-O-Swiss Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier

Humidifier generates a micro-fine mist thanks to technology that uses high-frequency vibration. A fan then blows the mist into the room where it immediately evaporates. Ultrasonic humidifier has a built-in hygrostat and an output regulator button. A hygienic, pure water mist free of limescale or mineral residues is ensured with the replaceable demineralization cartridge. Water is heated to 176° Fahrenheit before it enters the nebulizer chamber when the pre-heating function is used. The mist exits at 104° Fahrenheit and helps to prevent the room temperature from falling and keeps the water cleaner. Includes demineralization cartridge and Hydro Stick. Humidifier with 1.8-gallon transparent water tank is for rooms up to 600 square feet. Three-year warranty. Measures approximately 15" L x 8 3/4" W x 15 1/2" H. UL listed. Model # AOS7135.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST

I have owned this unit for at least 3 years. I don't know if they have changed anything in the way it is made since then, but I LOVE mine. I've never had any problems whatsoever. It is super quiet and works perfectly on all settings. I don't use the filters as it would get expensive replacing them. But the instructions tell you that if you use distilled water you don't have to use the filter and it does not affect the warranty. I wish all consumers could've had the great experience I've had with mine.

Amazing humidifier

Purchased the Air-O-Swiss 7135 for my young daughter's bedroom 3 months ago and have used it nightly. It immediately solved her rough night breathing and susceptibility to colds. It was like a miracle. The unit works flawlessly. It's very quiet, absolutely no white dust, and used on the Auto setting determines the correct humidity level, seeks it, then cycles on and off as needed. I've owned other humidifiers and the Air-O-Swiss 7135 is head and shoulders above the rest, definitely worth the money. Follow the maintenance schedule and it will continue to work perfectly.

The White Mist!!!

I owned this product for 2 years and only used it during the winter. Each winter my entire upstairs living area was covered in a white dusty mist. I changed the filters and ion stick with no success. Air-O-Swiss did not have an answer. I noticed some others had the same issue from Las Vegas. I live in Ohio, so I dont think it is a location issue. The mist finally drove me crazy enough to get a different unit.

We bought this product 1-1/2 yrs ago and have been extremely happy with its performance. Recently, the AOS 7135 did begin to malfunction for us, so we followed Air-O-Swiss' procedure and called the company. The company representative was understanding and provided us with a RMA number. Because this product is under a three year warranty, we returned the product and received a new one within days.

After 1.5 seasons, the water started leaking from the base. When it works it works well (although the humidstat that indicates the room humidity is totally inaccurate; I got three of these and all of them don't work). Customer service is abysmal- ignorant of their product and basically clueless. Don't waste your money.

Sudden Death

After just three weeks the humidifier suddenly stopped working. I read the the instruction booklet and followed all the troubleshooting advice, but after one to two hours of trying to get it to flow mist, I was stumped. I contacted Air O Swiss by e-mail, but I have not received a reply yet. This non- working item may be just a fluke since it was functioning very well until it failed suddenly. I hope so because I will probably return it to the store and exchange it for another one hoping for better luck.

Excellent Humidifier

I purchased the Air O Swiss Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier because of the recommendation of an allergist. I was sold - my skin and hair improved, I did not shock myself or others after walking across carpet, my nasal passages no longer dried out, cracked and bled, and the sinus draining and scratchy throat stopped. Next I purchased one for the office, which led to purchasing 3 more! We've never had a problem with any of them, but we follow the instructions about cleaning, replacing minerals in cartridge, and replacing stick. We have had no problem with white powder, no leaks, and the machines are still working 3 years later. I am about to purchase another machine for the office because we are in a larger space now. Everyone here is sold on the quality of these machines.

Waking up feeling more refreshed!

No more sore throat, dry nose, or dry skin! I am very pleased with this product. However; I did experience the white dust (calcium) at first. Which is the only reason I did not 5 star rate this humidifier. I called the manufacturer and the service agent was very informative and polite. I have very hard water here. He recommended using distilled water or reverse osmosis. I tried the distilled water and NO MORE WHITE DUST!! Just remember to remove the demineralization filter if you do this. Yes,at the end of the day, it's a little more than I expected to pay for the whole process, but, I needed relief from the dryness. My allergy relief and sinus headaches are very few. Now I wake up feeling more refreshed. Can't really put a price on that..

Impressive if you don't have Hard Water

I got four of these humidifiers and they are amazing and impressive with good water. But if you have hard water then these will completely break down within months (possibly 2-3 months), even if you follow the prescribed regular cleaning. To work well you should use distilled water, or soft water that then goes through reverse osmosis purification. My humidifiers using hard water would still turn on, but after two months no mist output, even after using the EZ Cal cleaner and replacing the filter cartridge with the granular refill. The humidifier that used soft water purified further via reverse osmosis has remained impressively clean, and never got the calcium or grime buildup that the humidifier machines using hard water got; and the one with the good water rarely ever needed real cleaning. It is prescribed to do light cleaning weekly, and then once every 2-3 months replace the water filter cartridge and once annually replace the ionic stick. In my experience with regular (hard) water going through the machine it never operated the same after refilling the granular water filter cartridge (or not at all depending on how hard your water is); and the humidifier that uses soft water with reverse osmosis (got within the past six months) has stayed clean and worked well but I have not yet come on the time when I need to refill the granules (or alternatively replace the cartridge).

high maintenance

It's quiet. You cannot shut off night light. There is white dust that emits and you will not want to breathe this! Costly to maintain. You must pay attention to it. Cleaning light goes off every week. Cleaning granules (three packs per box) cost under $10, however, after you clean it once, it never behaves the same! It spits and spews and puffs out fog intermittently! Remember, you have the cost of changing out the filter every 3 months too. I've just returned my second machine. I really wish it would've worked out. The heat button is really a gimmick, because once the "fog" comes out and hits the air, it is cold...immediately! It's really silly. The customer service...don't waste your time! They are useless...just return it. Bed, Bath and Beyond has an awesome return policy and for that they have my business and my money.

Efficient, Silent Humidifier

We bought this humidifier mostly because it does not have a moisture-wicking element. We were very tired of buying $6 filters every 3 weeks. We have very hard water and the filters get nasty very quickly.
That being said, this humidifier offers heated mist. The heat option does increase water consumption as well as power consumption. However, leaving the heat on makes the machine much cleaner, and with much less scale. The heat is also nice when you're sick.
One "feature" we liked from our old humidifier was the white noise it put out. We live right next to a main road in town, and need some white noise to drown out vehicles driving by at night. The only "problem" I have with this Air-O-Swiss is that it is silent. And I mean silent. You will not hear it operating.
I used my Kill-A-Watt measuring device, and based on electrical rates in Southern-NH, running this all night without heat will cost about $2 a month, while heat all night makes it about $6 a month. However, don't run it all night. We did for the first 3 weeks, until we noticed the mold growing on the cold, outside-facing walls in both of our closets...not a good thing. Use the timer function, it's really handy! Plus it saves electricity and uses less water.
Overall I'm very happy with this. With proper cleaning and maintenance it works silently and efficiently, and is well worth the price premium to other brands.

Love Air-O-Swiss Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier

This unit is very quiet and has several great features. You can use the warm or cool air setting depending on your needs. Also, you can set the humidity level. Once you soak the ionizer cartridge for 24 hours, you are ready to use the unit. Place it on a stand off the ground and make sure you do not have it blowing on any furniture. The moisture dissipates before it hits the ground. A few reviews stated that they had white powder blowing out which was probably because they did not follow the set up directions properly. I had no issues and would recommend this product.

Outstanding Machine

It is a machine - meaning you must maintain it.
If you don't change oil, filters, fluids in your vehicle, guess what? It breaks down.
It's the best humidifier I've ever owned (I go back 40 years having bought the 'belt type' humidifiers from Sears and more recently Venta humidifiers).
Quiet, efficient, and clean.
-Maintenance light flashes every two weeks.
-Empty tank & flush with clean water, clean base with fresh water and soft brush.
-Change cartridge every 2-3 months (make sure to soak new one in water before inserting).
-I will replace 'silver stick' before next season. (I'm amazed at how odor and 'yuk' free the base reservoir is after two weeks - obviously the stick works).
- If you have hard water (and you know if you do) you need to accelerate the cleaning schedule.
All in all, you get what you pay for.
If you bought it at BBBY, bring it back anytime (even well after the silly 90 day warranty runs out.)

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT-BEWARE

I am a singer and purchased this very expensive ($179!!) product to support hydration during the winter months. The product contains a demineralization filter. This filter is to be changed every three months. Here's what they don't tell you:
1) The filter is expensive.
2) If you wait more than three months to change the filter, it will (whether you change it or not) begin to spew a layer of white powder throughout your home. This white powder destroyed the optical reader in my computer and in my dvd player. I can only imagine what it did to my lungs.
I contacted "customer service" for this company and received several very nasty replies blaming it all on me.
I strongly advise not purchasing this product.

Great for home or office

This is my 3rd AOS 7135. I bought my 1st two (one was a gift for my sister) about 3 years ago and I would like to offer some tips.
First of all this machine is great. There are no disgusting air-filter-type sponges in this machine, so there is essentially nowhere for mold/milder to build up. The machine works quite well and the mist (although fog is a more appropriate term because mist implies water droplets) always dissipates before reaching the ground - assuming you don't put the machine on the floor.
The machine cost some $$ and requires that you continue to spend more $$ every season. You absolutely need to replace the ionic silver stick (now called the hydro stick) every season. Thats $30. You must change the cartridge every 30 days or so, or change the granules inside the cartidge. I do the latter, as it's cheaper and works just as well. My sister did not buy a new silver stick or change her cartidges - hers is now disgusting!!!!!
That said, here is where the cheapskates (my sis included) find flaw with the machine.
I have read that people are not pleased about the "white powder" or residue that they have found on computer screens, tvs, etc. The cause of this is fog, created by the mahcine, is attaching to dust in you air. This will then settle on elecrostatically charged surfaces in your home/office. (notice how it doesn't get on the hardwood floors, furnitiure, etc.?) Either buy a swiffer duster or get better air filters for you heating system.
People have complained about the machine getting pink-ish growth in the base. I too have had this, but only when I was very lazy. The machine tells you when to clean it. Cleaning it does not mean just using the brush supplied with the machine. Rather, it means draining the base and cleaning it. Heck, even wiping the base dry with paper towel and letting it continue to dry out over night before re-filling and re-using it has prevented this for me. - again though, replacing the silver/hydro stick once every year is key!
People have complained that the machine does not work well once they replace the cartridge/and or granules. did you soak them for 24 hours prior to use? here's a big help - when you get or fill the cartridge and you soak it, you must repeatedly push in the plunger in the middle of the cartridge while holding the cartridge under water. this allows all of the air to get out of the cartride (meaning it lets the water inside). Not doing so, even though this step is not in the directions, is likely your problem because you're not really saoking the granules if there is air inside.
Water light still coming on? How old is the machine? I'm guessing over a year - or you are young and have strong hands. Here's the problem with that. You have probably chronically over-tightend the cartridge into the base, so that the pluger in the middler of the cartride is not lining up with the base properly anymore. Here's my suggestion (and the dude @ customer serive for AOS was clueless about this when I called) - try giving the cartridge half a turn left (looser). This will allow the plunger to contact the base properly.
Bottom line - the machine is great. My hands are no longer stopping patient's hearts from crazy static discharge when I touch them and the file cabinet is no longer our arch enemy (ZAPP!!!!). It's well worth the $$, just don't be lazy with it after you buy it. Take care of it and it will work fine for years!

The water tank was defective and leaked water on my hardwood cherry floors all night long. I called customer service and explained that the tank was defective because it has a drip coming from where the tank and the base of the water tank meet. (not the motor base) The seal was bad and I was told that there was a 3 month limited warranty on it. I explained that I used it for 3 months then put it away and the first time out this happened. No help. The first customer service rep put me on hold for 5 minutes and I hadn't even asked a question yet. She came back only to be absolutely confused and said that the person she was speaking to said because there is a crack in it I would have to buy another one. I then asked to talk to the person that she was talking to, we finally were on the same page only to be told matter of factly "nothing we can do" this is my 2nd air o swiss and now MY LAST.

We have three of these, with two of them entering their second season. We've owned many different types and brands of humidifiers over the years, and these are by FAR the best. I cannot put a price on just the silence alone. No more cranking up the TV so we can hear it over the humidifier, all winter long.
They also run cleaner. Even with frequent cleaning, our old conventional humidifiers got "that smell" after a while. We'd throw them out after two, maybe three seasons. I doubt that will happen with these.
Yes, you still have to clean them. It's easier than with a filter humdifier and the cleaning is more effective in that you are not wondering about all the nooks and crannies, and the repulsive way the filters get in conventional humidifiers.
Yes, the consumables probably cost a little more. In my opinion, the lack of noise, the cleanliness, and the ease of use completely outweigh the additional cost.

This is the humidifier to buy

This may be the best humidifier in the market, even when compared to others from the same company Air-O-Swiss. Far cheaper ones exist but you get what you pay for with them and they're not worth it. More expensive ones than this one are not needed, and often add features that make them break. I had another humidifier plus air purifier before this one, also from Air-O-Swiss, that broke way too easily under the prescribed maintenance techniques, but this one is much better and in my opinion is the best on the market.
Pros:
* Works well, easy to clean, and no brittle or fragile parts that break easily under normal use and maintenance.
* This device keeps the water clean from harmful bacteria before using the water to humidify a room
* Great humidifyng area, up to 600 sq.ft
* Auto-humidify to a needed level based on tempurature
* Able to set a percentage humidity preference
* Auto-shut-down when water runs out
* Quiet operation
* Easy to use
* Warm or cool mist available
* Gives a maintenance notice when cleaning is needed
* I like seeing the vapor mist come out, compared to other humidifiers where you can't see the mist
Cons:
* demineralization cartridge by Air-O-Swiss for $15, supposedly needed each month
* replacement Ionic Silver Stick $30, needed once a year
NOTE: especially because of the vapor mist you certainly want to keep this humidifier 3 feet off the ground and the same distance away from wooden furniture.
