This Machine Is Cheap Plastic Garbage..!!

This will last you all but around 3 to 6 months tops! It is constructed of cheap plastic and the 'very breakable' Espresso Side Car must be completely replaced and will cost you at least $20.00 plus postage to replace each time it breaks. You may as well waste the money on Starbucks.... or save it up and buy a durable machine.
You get what you pay for, I suppose.

Liking it so far

I did notice a plastic smell, but ran a full pot of water through before making coffee and everything was fine.
The water glass (gauge that tells how much water is in the tank) has a bubble in it, so it isn't accurate, but that isn't too much of a hassle for me, just a note.
The espresso side worked wonderfully, and made just as good a cup as my husband's Italian old school stovetop model.
Not having a clock or auto shut off is the biggest pet peeve, but again, for some this may not be too big of a deal. (If so, there is another model for sale with those features I believe)

Works Great!

Overall, I think this coffee/espresso maker work great. I have had it for almost 4 years now and I am finally thinking of a replacement just because I want something newer. I have 2 complaints about this maker though: 1) there is not clock or automatic shutoff - which I really wish it had since I sometimes leave the house and forget to turn off the machine until I get home from work in the evening, 2) there is a small clear vial that shows you how many cups of water you pour in - it doesn't work anymore. Whenever I pour the water in, the vial no longer shows anything. Other than that, it works great!

Great machine

Bought this for my husband who wanted to have an espresso occasionally. It fits under the cabinets and doesn't steam up excessively.
He says the coffee is good - I am not a coffee person. However, he also says the coffee sometimes has a burnt flavor to it. He still likes it though.
My only complaint is that the picture online showed a clock, which this model doesn't have. As a consequence I think the machine looks fairly unattractive. It is big, black, and plastic.
Overall, this machine is a great buy, and we definitely recommend it.

Plastic smell and denial

I used Krups espresso machines for years and loved, loved, loved them. Mine needed replacing after years of hard work so when I saw the combination machine I was thrilled. The minute I opened the box I could smell a strong plastic odor. I ran a couple of pots of clear water through before I made coffee. The espresso side was magnificent, but the coffee side smelled and tasted horrible....burnt plastic. I ran several more pots through and still the odor and taste persisted. I took it back and exchanged it for another. I had the same problem. I called Krups who said, "No, we haven't heard of any problems with a plastic odor." Okay, maybe it was just a fluke so I exchanged it again (I really wanted this machine!) Same thing! I went through an entire gallon of vinegar, placed a platic bag filled with charcoal briquettes in the water reservoir, and put a filter full of baking soda where the grounds are supposed to go all in an effort to rid this machine of this foul odor. I brought a thermos of this coffee to work to make sure it wasn't just me and everyone said it was unbearable and probably dangerous to drink! I looked on line and low and behold several people had complained about this problem so I called Krups again. "No, we have never heard of this problem with any of our machines, but if you would like to send it to us we will be happy to check it out for you." So I sent it. I just got a call from them, "We checked out the machine and found no foul odor and are sending it back to you." I cried BS and told them all I had been through and how it was impossible that they did not smell that odor and they insisted that there was no odor from that machine and there wasn't a thing wrong with it. I was outraged. I will NEVER buy krups again. I know for a fact that they smelled that odor....or they didn't even turn it on knowing that they planned to deny it either way. What a terrible company.

I'm on my third of this coffee maker. I received it as a wedding gift and have replaced it for free both times under warranty. If I had paid money to replace it or buy it, I would be much angrier. I really like the drip coffee this machine makes. There is no plastic taste some machines have, the burner stays on and has a thermostat, the carrafe doesn't spill, and it uses a cone filter which I prefer.
The espresso side is not so good. I don't use it much, but the espresso seems gritty and the steam wand is difficult to use. I have seen much better espresso makers for not much more money. The first time the machine broke, the steam wand snapped while I was cleaning it. The second time, the pump failed on the drip side. If I have to replace this machine by paying money, I will get a good drip machine and go to a coffee shop for espresso drinks.
I also must credit BBB on their return policy for making these two warranty claims as hassle free as possible.

True Love...found

My fiancée and I originally had registered for a different Coffee/Espresso maker but made the changes to our registry after reading the (EXTREMELY) poor reviews on the other machine. Although I was a little skeptical at first after reading some of the reviews about this machine, I wanted to give it a try. After all, anything would be better than our ancient machine that at maximum capacity would only brew one and a half cups of coffee.
I must say that it definitely took us a few tries with just water to figure out the espresso maker. Living in Miami and only minutes from Little Havana where we can get Cuban coffee at a whim, we had to try to make it ourselves. At first, and I purely think it was from inexperience with ever using an espresso maker, inserting the filter took a couple tries. After a few rounds of practice, it is super easy and the espresso is actually on par with those found around Miami. Very happy.
The actual coffee is great too. Included with the machine is a Krup's coffee spoon. Usually my coffee making skills are just eyeballing coffee into the filter, but with the suggested amount of spoonfuls per cup of coffee, the coffee came out perfect, and hot.
Being recent graduates of law school and a masters degree, the both of us are avid coffee drinkers, and we are both completely happy with our machine. We both fell in love with our machine. After reading other reviews (especially the negative ones) my advice is..."don't knock it 'till you try it".

I have had the previous model for 5-1/2 years. I was not aware of descaling it in order to avoid calcium build up. One day while I was steaming milk when I looked back in my pitcher the milk got sucked into the machine. Just recently the Coffee carafe broke bc I accidently hit it against the counter too hard and cracked it. I have had a hard time getting a replacement thru BBB. Also, the water reservoir was never big enough to make more than one cappuccino at a time. I would run out of steam, so I had to wait for it to cool off and refill it. Not fun but it got the job done. I feel that now it is much cheaper to by a whole new one than to purchase replacement parts.

I've had a Krupps Duel Coffee/expresso maker from BB&B for five years now, and have used the coffee machine nearly every day and the expresso part at least twice a week. Everything still work on it and it does exactly what it is supposed too. It is not as fancy as other machines, but if you want a simple machine that can do expresso and coffee, and is an absolute workhorse, go with this one.

Avoid this machine

I'm sad to say this machine is horrible. First the steamer wand goes, then the espresso side, and finally the coffee maker. I worked as a professional barista for four years, so I know how to take care of machines. I thought about brewing coffee and espresso at home to save money, but at the rate of replacement this machine requires, it's obviously cheaper to just go to Starbucks every day.
Their customer service can't tell you anything except 'send it in and we'll bill you.' BS. I will never purchase this brand again.

Many problems

I purchased this unit 2-3 years ago and have had to replace the carafe twice due to faulty and inadequate joining of the band to the glass. The screw that joins that band ends around the glass cannot be tightened and eventually loosens with time creating a dangerous burn situation.
I usually hand wash the carafe but once placed it in the top shelf of the dishwasher and the cover broke.
The espresso cup handle has also come off with time so that has been relaced twice as well. An extra $80 for replacement parts is not worth it.

When I got this coffee pot for Chirstmas 2009, I loved it. The espreso was great and so was the coffee. The steamer went out after 6 months, but the coffee was still good. My coffee pot completely died this morning just after it's first birthday. I'm not happy. $100 down the drain.

We use this machine primarily for espresso and lattes. I've had it for more than two years, without any major problems. I bought it at BB&B, but it wasn't in a box, I think it was a display model. I had to buy a steaming pitcher separately, which was a bummer, but it works great. One thing, the glass espresso catcher is very fragile/thin, we broke ours and had to replace it. I would say it's very important to clean it regularly to keep getting great-tasting espresso.
