I had purchased this item as a gift for my niece, who didn't have a mixer or a blender. Her comment after using it for the first time was: "Brilliant!"
Always glad to make someone happy...

Love the fact that you can immerse in hot liquids for soups, stews, gravies. I also use it to make smoothies and protein shakes. Use the mini food processor practically everyday for chopping onions, peppers, nuts, etc. Easy clean-up. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this appliance!

Cuisinart Smart Stick

The Smart stick worked well even for tough milkshake making. I used the accessory chopper as well. I had the
same problem with the plastic nut stripping out after about 2 years. This seems to be a design flaw. I guess the manufacturer figures that it better to strip the plastic nut rather than to burn out a motor. The device also is lacking speed control The accessory chopper is not substantial and developed cracks in the bottom.

Loved it while it worked, but it broke too soon

I agree with a review that talks about a nylon connector in the power handle getting stripped thereby attachments no longer work - i.e. the motor spins, but because the connector is stripped off, the attachments don't spin. So exact same thing happened to my blender. I bought this blender less then 2 years ago, and I used it at most ones a week to whip up some egg whites or blend soups etc - nothing "taxing" by any means. Loved it, but was pretty annoyed by the low quality part. This is my second one by the way - the first one broke in the same matter after about 1 1/2 years too. I thought maybe it was just a lemon, but turns out this blender's life span is only 2 yrs. I'm definetely not getting the same one again and wouldn't recommend it for the reasons above.

Good Product / Poor Engineering

I purchased this item and thought it was excellent! It worked fine and gave several as gifts. After some regular use, the connection between the power handle and the attachments stopped working. The nylon connector in the power handle was stripped, therefore none of the attachments would work. About the time mine stopped functioning, the unit I gave my niece stopped working as well. This is an engineering or design issue. Everything worked, but would not transfer the power to the attachment. I returned the unit to BB&Beyond. They offered an even trade, but the item is no longer stocked in the stores. I am sure this design issue is the reason. In the past Cuisanart name was a quality name. I no longer feel that way. BB&Beyond did exchange the product for one manufactured by Calphalon and the connection seems to be engineered better. Hopefully this will provide more reliable service.

The 'Not-so-SmartStick'

Although I'm happy with the build quality of the SmartStick hand blender it has a serious flaw.
A blender needs different speeds for processing different ingredients. It's too bad that the SmartStick always runs at high speed and has no way to vary its speed.
The mixing attachment spins way too rapidly to mix ingredients such as flour. It ends up splattering all over the place and requires a very careful 'pulsing' technique not to do so.
When mixing simple batches such as custards and smooth batters a mess is likely to result. The mixing attachment is the biggest problem.
If the SmartStick had a speed control it would be the best product in its category.

We have been married 36 years and i am an avid cook. My husband and I reckon that this is the best product we have ever bought for our kitchen! I seem to use it for many things and each time he sees me use it he giggles and says "amazing"!
When I blend soup I don't like to make it look as if it is baby food, so I take the veggies out of the pot into a 2 litre jug, blend with the stick and return to pot - excellent! I use it to make Yorkshire Pudding batter, smoothies, Humous (really good) and many other things.
I have mashed potatoes with it, but I dont like the glistening smooth consistency. It is definitely easier with a large quantity than with a masher and fork, but i would rather the old fashioned look!
Don't tell them, but I'm going to buy my daughters one each for Christmas!

I love all the things this immersion blender can do. If you are using it as a mixer and using dry ingredients, make sure to mix by hand first or use a deep mixing bowl! I made a huge mess my first time, oppsss! I love using it for soups and chili to make the consistency a little better!

I've owned this hand blender for about 6 months and it is wonderful! I've used all three attachments. One thing that amazed me is how powerful they all are, especially the whisk attachment. I couldn't believe how quickly it mixes. The chopper attachment has replaced my food processor for small jobs. Though I've used the immersion blender attachment the least, it has always worked well for me. Definitely worth the money.

I use this for soups, mashed potatoes, smoothies. sauces etc. When using it for something chunky like mashed potatoes it is easiest to mash it first and then slowly ease the hand blender in and out of the food, too much at a time can stop the blade. For soups, just stick this right into the pot on the stove and you have a pureed tomato base or bisque in no time. I used to borrow my room mates hand blender and when I got married I made sure to register for one of my own. A must have.

disappointing expensive

When this works, it's great. Unfortunately, I bought one, used it twice and the motor went dead. The chopper never worked, but wisk is fine. The second one went dead, runs but refuses to turn the blender, and the chopper again does not work. I would not buy such again, but have been so happy with other Cuisinart products that this was a huge disappointment.

This works great! So nice for smoothing out bisque, soups, gravies & smoothies! I'm still digging through recipes to find out what I can try it on next.
Note- The chopper did not grind my coffee beans as well as my regular grinder, but I had to try it out.

Not as useful as I thought it would be

I have owned this for a year. I really only use the chopper, usually for onions. When you chop things up, you still have to make sure they are in smaller size peices and if you put too much in, it turns to half of it to mush and the other half is unchopped. Now my chopper attachment is starting to crack and it has only been used for a year. The only thing I found the mixer part useful for was soup, like when we make bisque, but that it pretty rare. It doesn't work on thicker things like mashed potatoes or such.
