Messy rice cooker. Always bubbles over and doesn't cook rice completely. Rice on bottom burns. We cook rice a lot and definitely don't recommend this one!

I bought this for the convenience factor and the attractive design. What a disappointment! This rice cooker boils over with even the minimum amount of rice in it and makes a giant mess all over the counter. I tried all variations thinking I could find a work around but it continued to boil over. Too bad, love the design but it will have to go back.

Great Gift

Received as a gift (2005) 7 years ago for Xmas, makes great rice plus you can steam vegetables and fish as rice cooks! This Christmas I gave 3 as gifts and so far they have enjoyed it as well. Great tip: use 1-2 tsp of butter or oil of any kind and stir into rice before cooking or rub butter/oil on rim area or below rim to avoid over-spill, if you do this the lid and outside of cooker will stay clean! Makes great oatmeal with a 1 tsp butter added, again to avoid over-spill. It took me years before I actually figured the over-spill, just accepted it and continued to use it, until recently I actually reread the manual and it is in the tip section to use oil/butter to prevent over-spills. No more over-spills!

My family eats rice daily...so i use this everyday. I own big rice cookers that I use for parties. I 've used this for 5 years until it broke down. I bought another one since the size and amount of rice that I need for daily consumption is just enough and it's simple enough to use that even my preteen son can operate it (cooks rice for us), It is small - uses less kitchen space and sleek- matches other cuisinart kitchen appliances. A lot of my visitors ask about it and some purchased it too. I highly recommend it for those who wants newly cooked rice all the time without using bigger, bulkier rice cookers.

So, I just used this for the first time. Followed the instructions exactly, watched a few online tutorials for recipe suggestions, read the reviews for tips to prevent boil overs -- and yet, my rice was burnt on the bottom and under cooked. Unbelievable. I'm not even going to bother to use it as a steamer b/c I have no confidence it will operate properly. It's going straight in the trash. A total waste of my money. This will be my last Cuisinart purchase.

It looks really nice but boils over making more of a mess than its worth...you have to watch it cook the entire time and open the lid because water leeks down everyside soaking inside the switch and pools under cooker on counter. Followed diections perfectly! Will be returning the product back to the store!

Perfect rice cooker

For everyone on this site stating this rice cooker does not work does not know how to cook rice. This works perfectly. I always use a 2:1 ratio. 2 parts liquid to one cup rice. That's it, plain and simple. As far as cleaning, it is a stainless steel ext and a Teflon interior. Teflon is pretty much the easiest thing to clean aside from a glass of water. This machine also looks good in the kitchen. Very low profile. I would buy this again and again.

This little thing makes it so easy to eat healthy. I just throw some wild rice in the bottom and some broccoli in the top steamer and it's ready! Does boil over the top a little, but I had that problem with my last rice cooker as well. It's not a pain to clean up, just one wipe and your good. It's nice that everything is removable, makes for easy clean up.

It works, but makes a mess and is an awkward shape to clean. It is easier to cook your rice in a pot and clean the pot.

I got this rice cooker as a wedding gift and I love it. It's very easy to use, keeps the rice warm, and steams veggies perfectly. It's also easy to store and clean, with all removable parts being dishwasher safe! My only complaint about it is the first time I wanted to use its combo rice making and steaming functions at the same time, which you are able to do. It told me how long to steam the veggies but not how long it took the rice to cook (bc it does that for you, you don't have to time it).... so in order to do both I had to figure out how long it took to cook the rice and set a timer to know when to put my veggies in.... :)

I hated this rice cooker the first year I owned it - boiled over and always made a mess - then I quit using the instructions from the rice cooker and started using the instructions from the bag of rice instead - also warm the water a little before putting in the pot - now makes perfect rice everytime - if you use chicken stock rather than water - use a little more than the recipe says to use

I don't know what is wrong with you people. I have been using this rice cooker for years. I think you are adding too much water. Make sure you rinse your rice several times. For one cup of rice instead of adding two cups of water, add one and a half because it already has moisture from rinsing. Try again. Its always good for me.

Rice Burner

My wife and I love Cuisinart and have many wonderful Cuisinart appliances, this is not one of them. We've had the cooker for two years and continue to have issues. First of all, it's very messy. We've set the top so the hole is in the back like many sites suggest, doesn't help. The cooker also burns a layer of rice on the bottom regardless of what you do. Don't waste your money, buy a rice cooker that works.

I got this rice cooker as a wedding gift and the first time I used it I followed the directions exactly..It started to boil and boiled over. I had to watch it the entire time it cooked because i had to keep lifting the lid off to keep it from boiling over, it also burned my fingers because I had to lift the lid off every 10 seconds to keep it from boiling over. Once the cooker switched to the warm setting It should have been cooked, but the rice was awful.. I am returning this item and am very dissapointed I have wanted a rice cooker for a long time. I will try another brand and hopefully will find one I like..I would not recommend this product simply because it does not work even when the directions are followed and the steam burned my fingers.

Boils over and makes a mess

At first i had no problems with this rice cooker. I make a lot of white rice and i usually would make 3 cups at a time. The steamer basket was really convenient to steam veggies at the same time the rice was cooking. The major problem is if you try to make too much rice or brown rice, which requires more water per cup, this makes a HUGE mess! Boiling soupy rice water pours over the lid all over the counter, even with just 1 cup of rice! I haven't tried any of the recipes for other foods that you can make in the cooker, but I'll have to get a new cooker for rice since i got rid our my old one when I got this on my registry. If you only plan to make relatively small portions of white rice or use the steamer, this cooker is ok.

This rice cooker didn't cook the rice to the quality I can do over the stove. It was undercooked The cooker warm cycle is to hot and causes the rice on the bottom to scorch.

Great product, if you have the water for it

This rice cooker is awesome. Cooks rice to perfection, and keeps it warm when it's done.
One thing we've noticed is that it tends to boil over or make a mess if you have bad water. Our house had super hard nasty water when we bought it, and it would make a huge mess making rice. We had a softener and a kitchen sink reverse osmosis filter put in, and with the super clean water the problem went away. The rice is also way less sticky and clumpy.
The only word of warning is the make sure the on/warm mechanism doesn't get stuck, ours got stuck and the fire-safety thermal pellet fuse popped. I'm sending it back under the warranty, but I'd buy another just like it even if it was out of warranty.
