KitchenAid KitchenAid® Ice Cream Maker Bowl Attachment

Turn your stand mixer into an ice cream maker instantly. Just turn on the mixer, pour in the batter and let the dasher and freeze bowl do the work. Make up to two quarts of soft ice cream, sorbets and frozen desserts in 20-30 minutes; just place soft ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer to harden further. Easy to use and easy to clean. For use with all KitchenAid® mixers except for model KSM7990. Model # KICAOWH.

Keeps Cracking and Leaking Blue Stuff

I have had two of these and each started to leak. I first noticed it when my freezer had blue liquid spreading through it. The tab on the back which holds the bowl in the mixer breaks and then leaks the freezing liquid. My mixer is great for other attachments but I finally bought a CUISINART Icecream Maker which is cheaper than the bowl and makes BETTER icecream.

I love my KA, and have been lusting after the attachments for a while. We got this one as a gift, and we've already used it twice to make ice cream. It works just as well as our old separate appliance ice cream maker, and now we don't have to store that! As with the other KA bowl, it is a bit hard to mix small batches, but that is such a minor problem it's hardly worth mentioning.

I bought this from my local store and used it three days later! It works amazingly. I leave mine in the deep chest freezer when not in use so it's ready when I am. We have made 4 batches including cookies & cream, chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, and triple chocolate. Ice cream is about soft serve consistency when it's done so it's good to freeze it for a while before serving. I love that most of the ingredients I have on hand at all times. No need for rock salt or ice. It's simple and fast! LOVE IT!

Leaks!

I love KitchenAid products and attachments, so I hate to give this a bad review. But after doing research on the internet, I know I'm definitely not the only person who's had this problem. I DID like that it made really good ice cream - I thought it was fairly easy to use and never had problems with it freezing enough - it always did the job. The problem is that a lot of people, including myself, saw that it started to "leak" that gooey blue stuff that is inside the bowl to help it freeze. That doesn't sound safe, and I had seriously used it no more than 6 times when it started. I read one review online from someone who replace their bowl 4 times in 6 years because of the same problem. Obviously that is a problem KitchenAid needs to work on. Very disappointing. :(

I love this thing! Granted my kitchen looked like a bit of a disaster after the first attempt, but the taste and consistency was good. I followed the directions and made my freezer -5 degrees (it's coldest setting) for the 15 plus hours that the freeze bowl was inside, so it was cold enough. Oh, and be sure to pour the liquid in with something that has a spout (not just the side of a bowl)! The consistency is very soft at first, but the directions say you then have to put it in the freezer for 2-4 hours to get it like hard ice cream. If you do that, then it's perfect! I would recommend this for anyone who wants an ice cream maker, but doesn't want another appliance sitting out or to have to take out a big appliance just to make the ice cream.

Just to make sure the bowl was at the right temperature I placed the mixing bowl in the freezer for 3 days. It was Christmas Day when I decided to try out the eggnog ice cream recipe by Alton Brown. The custard recipe was prepared ahead of time and it was ready in 4 hours. The custard was slowly poured into the well chilled bowl with the paddle at low speed. An hour of churning the custard did not thicken. So, I pulled out my old Waring Ice Cream Maker to make the ice cream. It took a lot of ice and rock salt to make this egg nog ice cream and it was delicious!!!

My husband and I recently purchased this attachment and we LOVE it. It was so easy to make home made ice cream. It does take at least 15 hours to freeze the bowl so you have to plan ahead. The ice cream was better than any store bought ice cream I have had. I will be buying one for my friend this year for Christmas.

I love this attachment. It is so easy to make ice cream for the grandkids. They love the flavors and how quickly it is made. The cleanup is easy and I just pop it back into the freezer to wait for the next time. The recipe booklet that comes with it has fabulous recipes. I cant wait to try them all.

I got the ice cream maker attachment for my birthday a week ago and made 5 batches already. The recipes and maker couln't be easier and yummier. No ice or salt needed. Just make sure you plan a day ahead, as the bowl needs to freeze 15 hours. My daughter is addicted to the pumpkin ice cream!
