DO NOT BUY THIS

I love my 2 Kitchenaid mixers, but this is useless. I tried to grind a 1/2 cup almonds, doesn't do it--neither the large nor the small bowl, everything from dust to pieces the size of a cherry pit. A terrible product.

This was given to me at Christmas to replace my old smaller Cuisinart. The second time I used it when making dough I smelled a little rubber burning smell. The third time I used it the plastic part of the blade broke! I'm surprised at Kitchenaid as I've always loved their mixer and quality made attachments. This was made very cheaply. I returned it and got another Cuisinart and I love it!!

Don't Bother

I purchased my Kitchen Aid 13 cup food processor about a year ago and have had nothing but problems with it. The rubber seal is not great at all... food gets stuck between the cap and the bowl. When you go to use the smaller bowl, you have a spill that ends up in your larger bowl beneath causing you to have more to clean. The so called "thin-thick" slicing tab slices the same thickness whether you select a thin slice or a thick slice. What determines your thickness for slicing is the amount of pressure you use when pushing the item down into the feeding tube. For the amount of money you spend on this item you should have a product that doesn't have nearly as many flaws as this one. I am going to return mine and try the Cuisinart 14 cup to see how that handles. I tried to love it because I love Kitchen Aid products, but it's sad that this one just doesn't hold up.

Bought this to replace my much loved, but worn out 13y/o Cuisinart. Used it 2 times and thought I was in love, then.... on the third use it wouldn't even turn on! Really!!!??! I am so disappointed! It is going back! I don't even want to exchange it, I just want credit until I figure out what I want instead.

Beware of "re-engineered" design with lighter base

Up until last year, I'd had great success with KitchenAid food processors, but this model was a huge disappointment. On the very first use, the drive spindle jammed and the blade fused to the spindle. KitchenAid customer service replaced the entire unit. The replacement unit worked better, but after several uses, the unit jammed once, but this time the blade didn't permanently fuse to the spindle, but instead, the inside plastic sleeve of the blade split from bottom to the top inside. This has happened with two other replacement blades. As others have reported, the adjustable thickness for the slicing function doesn't work very well. I'm now kicking myself for having given my daughter my over 10 year old KitchenAid food processor that weighs 4 times more than this too light weight unit that torques the blade spindle with the slightest resistance -- a major design flaw! In over 30 years of cooking and using food processors almost daily, I've never encountered this before. Did any of the engineers who helped with the "re-design" of what was once a very good product ever actually use their "new design" in a real kitchen under real conditions. It doesn't appear to be the case. Until they "fix" their new design, stay far far away!

I purchased the Kitchen Aid food processor. The first time I used it the plastic pusher broke. I returned it and was given another one. The second one wouldn't start, no matter how hard I pressed the button. I returned and got my money back.

Not very well built

The good: Really nice looking device, matched our gray Caesarstone countertop, large capacity, nice set of blades and discs and storage case, BPA-free work bowls.
The bad: the motor is rather noisy, putting together all the accessories needed to use the small work bowl was a bit confusing, using the small bowl inevitably got the large work bowl dirty so it would need to be cleaned, main chopping blade kept breaking.
On that last point, we had KA send us a replacement main chopper blade after the first one broke internally (the spindle which sits on the driveshaft of the motor, it simply separated from the main blade housing). The new one arrived and we tried it out. Blam!, broke again, except this time is splintered apart so that we could see that the spindle of the blade that sits on the driveshaft is *glued* to the blade housing! Glued! Are you serious? There isn't a metal connection, or solid plastic to transfer the power of the motor into the rotation of the blade? All force goes through a *glued* connection?
The unit was immediately returned to BB&B as it's pretty clear that it's a poor design. Some might wonder what we made in the processor: pizza dough, hummus, bread crumbs, salsa, shredded cheese. Nothing else.

Kitchen Aid comes through again

I took a long time reading the reviews on this product, although they were very mixed, I decided to buy and try, (I have to admit I LOVE KITCHEN AID) I am so glad I did! I gave this a five star rating based on the main reason I bought it, I already had the stand mixer so bread was not and issue for me. I dehydrate a lot of foods and wanted precision slicing which I got with this and fast too! I do have to watch the amount of pressure while pushing the veggies through,to keep them thin when I want thin for chips, but I would have to do this with any processors. The slice lever is stiff, but does loosen up with use, best advice I could post is PLEASE READ before use, this is NOT your plug and play machine, it does a LOT and is lots of fun. It is big, but I love the size. I bought red and the red is gorgeous!

Sorry Chef,

But I think every other "food processor" out here knows that a much stronger machine is needed for mixing dough for long periods of time. That's why I have the Kitchen Aid mixer for all my baking and the KA food processor for chopping, since I can not chop because of arthritis. It works fabulously! Good luck.

Don't Recommend

I bought this item specifically for kneading dough and because it seemed like a powerful workhorse appliance. The instructions for the dough blade says to push down forcefully on the blade in order to create a "seal". There IS NO SEAL, it is just hard plastic against hard plastic. My dough worked up under the blade and into the shaft where it immediately caused the engine to stop. I tried to "fix" this 3x but each time the engine shut down. My dough never mixed and did not knead at all. A rep from the company told me that the machine is not designed to knead more than 30 seconds and the blade had become "fused" to the shaft! NOT SO. The blade is just as it was when I took it out of the box. This is going right back to the store. A serious chef would not even consider a machine that does not knead dough for over 30 seconds. PS I wanted to give this a "No Star" rating but the site wouldn't accept this!
