Customer Reviews for Oxo Oxo Good Grips Analog Instant Read Meat Thermometer

Oxo Oxo Good Grips Analog Instant Read Meat Thermometer

Make sure you're cooking your meat to the safest internal temperature with this meat thermometer. Great for poultry, beef, pork, veal and ham. Just insert the probe into the meat away from the bone to get an accurate reading of the internal temperature. The conical face is easy to see from any angle and the non-slip silicone ring makes handling simple. The convenient storage sleeve has the recommended cooking temperatures and Celsius conversions. With the alligator-style clip, you can just clip the thermometer to your apron between readings. The flat edge prevents the thermometer from rolling on countertops. Thermometer has large, easy-to-read numbers and is calibrated for accuracy.

Not accurate

Simply put, this thermometer does not give accurate temperature readings. The temperature shown on the thermometer is significantly below the actual temperature of the meat. So you'll end up over-cooking the meat if you rely on this thermometer. In fact, it will become obvious that the meat is done long before this thermometer will give you a temperature to confirm it. Basically, this thing is worthless since it can't do the only job it is designed to do.

Couldn't cook without it!

After living in Asia (where meat is a condiment), I married a meat-and-potatoes-loving Midwest farmer. The ONLY way I learned to cook meat with any bit of success was by using this meat thermometer. Some people don't like it because it can't be washed in the dishwasher, but that's no trouble for me. It's quick. The case has a temperature guide for all different kinds of meats. One thing I didn't know at first, is that you should use tongs to pick up the hamburger or pork chop, and then insert the prong sideways into the meat 2 or 3 inches, instead of sticking the prong down into the meat in the fry pan.

This thermometer takes too long to get a reading. I don't want to hold my hand near a hot oven for what seemed like forever when the package clearly states "instant thermometer." It's far from instant so I returned it and got a digital one instead. I considered the Oxo digital for 19.99 but bought a Polder brand digital for 9.99 and it works great.

I wanted the Oxo digital themometer which had good reviews but the store didn't stock it so thought I would try this instead. Instant read - I don't think so!!!! It often reads that the meat hasn't reached the desired temperature only for me to find, on cutting into it, that it has overcooked. Waste of money - I had a digital thermometer before and wish I had bought another oneI
