This is basically pieces of flimsy plastic with a sharp blade. On top of that the blade does not even have a great locking mechanism.

I have been using a '70s hand me down meat slicer for years. It finally died. So I went to replace it. This was all they had in the store and I needed one. After using it once I came to the conclusion that if I removed the blade it would be a better doorstop. It is just not a well made piece of machinery.

This is my second slicer of this model. The first one served me for 5 years. The motor/gear worn out and smoked. The blade was still sharp though. Based on this experience, I bought the second one. As soon as it arrived, I noticed the difference. The blade has a new knob to be removed - better. But the blade itself is not built well as before. Anyway, I gave it a try. To my surprise, it doesn't slice the meat evenly. I noticed the blade is not aligned with the base and the base is not as solid as the old one. The result is I have to push hard to bend the base a little bit to make an even cut. The worse thing is when sliding the carriage, the cut gets thiner and thiner. It couldn't finish an even cut anyway. That was on frozen meat. Cutting softer meat such as ham might be easier but I didn't try. I wouldn't recommend this product any more.

I have had this slicer for quite some time now and just love it! It slices everything from oranges to roasts to cheese. It is great! To the reviewer above-if you broke the part used to hold the food in place you were obviously abusing the piece or it would not have broken.

Its okay but...

I bought this slicer because I wanted to dehydrate fruits and veggies. The slicer makes sure they are all the same size. The slicer works decent, but the plastic part that you use to hold the meat or whatever in place is PLASTIC! So it broke not even a few weeks after I bought it. I really can't use the slicer now! It was crummy plastic too! Very thin! You put a lot of faith and pressure on this safety arm, and to have it break is so ridiculous! I don't know what to do at this point. The manufacturer has surely had many complaints. They should have made it stainless steel. Really bad choice...
