Worst Can Opener

I bought this can opener in July of 2012. It didn't work right from the beginning, but I decided to give it a few more tries anyway. Nope, it turned out to be a disappointment. My advice is to go with the "Hamilton Beach Smooth Touch Can Opener." You will save your hand and some extra time in the kitchen.

I used a similar can opener and thought, "Hey, that would be nice in my kitchen." I bought it in December 2012. Used it a few times, it worked fine for a few weeks. Then it started to not open the can. After 6 weeks I had to return it to BB&B where they replaced it. I used the replacement this time for 6 days before it stopped doing what it should be! I will never buy or recommend this to anyone ever again!

I was given a smooth edge opener and loved it. It was a cheap one and didn't last about a year. So I decided to purchase this one. It only lasted about six months and now it takes me going around the can 3-4 times to get the lid off. Very disappointing for the cost.

I received this item a few years back (possibly 5) and it's only now starting to give me issues. I love this can opener because it is so easy to use and I can just put it in a drawer without taking up valuable counter space. I definitely plan on purchasing another oxo smooth can opener when my existing one no longer functions correctly.

This can opener WAS the best thing ever. It was great for the first 8-10 months, very easy to turn the knob, but now after having it for over a year I am going around the can atleast 3-4 times just to get it open. It didn't even go through an Evaporated Milk can. Very frustrating...

I have known people who have had only good things to say about this opener. My wife and I have used it for a year and now have to go around our dogfood can 2-3 times to get it open It has been a gradual process of failure. I would love to return it to BBB, but have not done so yet... I feel bad because we have had it so long,.... I find it very irritating.

I'm not sure who came up with the idea originally, but this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Oxo lives up to their ad; smooth operation, easy to use, and safe. As to longevity, we won't know for a while. It appears to be solid, and well made. Like the other Oxo products I've purchased, I hope this one lasts a long time too.

No good for tuna fish

I only need a can opener for tuna fish. If you use it for anything that needs straining don't buy this one because it completely detaches the top and the liquid oozes out of the sides. Also you never know when the can is actually open because it doesn't initially puncture the can. i usually go around and around until the liquid oozes out before prying it off. Unless you frequently cut yourself using a traditional can opener you don't need an expensive "smooth edge" one.

This is not your traditional can opener. Once you figure out how to use it, you will love it. Easy to open, and lift off. It opens on the side of the lid, not the top, which is hard to get use to. I love this thing. There aren't sharp edges on the top of the can after you open it, opening the cans isn't difficult, and it even has a little set of pincers that lift the top off for you. The top doesn't bend, so you're not fishing it out of the can that you just opened. The reason I only give it a 4 out of 5 stars is because I've come across one can that it didn't work on where a normal can opener did work. The can had a really deep lip, so when this can opener went around, it didn't get low enough to actually pull off the top part of the can. Otherwise, I've found it to be fantastic.
