Customer Reviews for Mint Mint® Automatic Robot Floor Cleaner

Mint Mint® Automatic Robot Floor Cleaner

The Mint® Automatic Robot Floor Cleaner uses the NorthStar® Navigation System to determine its location then builds a map of the area as it cleans, including walls, obstacles and drop offs. Mint® starts by cleaning open areas, then follows with a perimeter sweep along the edges of furniture and walls for a complete clean. When Mint® is finished cleaning, it returns to where it started and parks itself so you know right where to find it. Smart sensors help Mint® slow down before bumping walls and furniture, detect areas that are too low to enter, avoid area rugs and avoid falling down stairs. The special mopping motion gets deeper dirt and grime off your floor and PerfectEdge™ technology cleans along edges and walls. Mint® delivers whisper quiet operation and cleans up to three hours on a single charge. Includes charger, two dry microfiber cleaning cloths, one wet cleaning cloth, NorthStar® Navigation Cube, and two C batteries. UL listed.

I need assistance due to knee replacement and the difficulty of kneeling. I debated on this purchase as I had heard negative ones about it's competitor. Mainly it was noisy. The Mint is not noisy, it amazes me how it goes around legs and changes positions. I use it for wet cleaning, only and I am not disappointed.

Best investment

I love this product. I think this is the best investment I ever made for the same amount of money. It did an amazing job of cleaning, way more than I expected, as long as you don't have tough stains. The reason I did not give this product 5 stars are:
1. It takes a long time to complete cleaning a room. So if you are looking for a helping hand to clean up the floor in a short time (ie. unexpected guests are coming in a short notice), this is not the right solution for you.
2. It got stuck under the sofas quite often.
My work around is to set it to run before I go to work everyday so that I don't have to witness how long it takes to complete the floor. It feels good come in my home and see a nice cleaning floor. Once a month I would raise the 2 front sofa legs up a little to make more room for the mint to come in and does its cleaning job; the rest of the time, I put the kitchen rugs under the sofa so that the Mint cannot get in and be stuck there.

Would Not Purchase

The cleaner worked okay for hardwood floor cleanup, however, after about a year it stopped working completely. It absolutely does not take the place of cleaning your floors, but is acceptable if a "lick and a promise" is all that you are looking for. The warranty had expired by the one year mark and was not interested in putting anymore money into a product that I wasn't delighted with in the first place. There are probably better products to purchase than the Robotic Mint Floor Cleaner.

I really, really wanted to like this, especially after reading all the great reviews. I am not impressed, however, and will be returning it. We just had vinyl wood floors installed in our living room, dining room and hall, and vinyl tiles in our kitchen---all one big open area. After 1.5 hours, the mint had only cleaned half the living room, half the dining room, the kitchen (some areas 2 and 3 times) and half the hallway. I could still see dust on the floor where it had already passed at least twice---so why bother with this when I would have to go back over it again after? It also does not do corners well. Because I had stairs off the hallway, if I did not stop it, it would have toppled down the stairs. I don't want to spend hours "babysitting" this and then have to go over spots it missed/has already done, when I can do a better job in 20 minutes. So back it will go. Disappointed that it did not work as well as I wanted it to.... :(

I got "Hazel" for Christmas as most of the house is now hardwood floors. I love Hazel. She gets into tight spots and does a thorough job. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. She gets under some furniture but does not fit under all. I used the mop feature on the kitchen floor today and it came out great.

I do love my Mint but because it tapers in the front, it gets stuck under my sofas and under my fridge and can't back out. It has a scoring mark on the top from getting stuck. Unfortunately, that leaves only a room or two in which to use it in. Other than that, it does a great job.

I can't say enough about the Mint! I have acid-stained concrete floors and this baby will keep me from ever having to sweep and mop again! I couldn't wait to try my new Mint when I opened it on Christmas Eve, but thought there wouldn't be anything for it to clean since I had just spent a good couple hours Swiffering and mopping earlier that day. Boy, was I wrong! The sweeping pads found the nastiest glob of dog hair, dead grass, etc. hiding under my entertainment center and sectional sofa; it even managed to push out three of the racquet balls my dog plays with. After a quick re-charge, it was ready to mop. My floors look GREAT and it did all the work while I watched TV! What more can you ask for? I can't imagine why you'd need anything more powerful or expensive. They must pick up a small child or something.... =)

I never take the time to comment on products but I am so excited about my "Ruby Robot" that I had to share my thoughts. I was very skeptical about whether it would work but I was amazed at how easy it was to set up and just how thorough of a cleaning job it did on my hard wood floors. I absolutely love this thing! I've told all my friends and family and am so glad I found it. It runs for 3 hours and gets into the tightest corners and under low furniture. Instead of spending all afternoon cleaning myself, I let Ruby go while I went shopping. I came home to find the floors perfectly clean. Love love!!

This is the best money spent in a long time. Perfect for the multi-tasking woman on the go! The charge runs closer to two hours but I am considering buying another one! It's an "in-housekeeper/robot!"

Worth every nickel! Customer service from Mint is stellar! The dog loves the mint a little too much and snacked on one of the wheels, they sent a replacement super quick!
We use it every day and the house stays much cleaner overall.
Pet owner should be issued one with their pet.

Why Did I Wait So Long???

I was a little hesitant about the "Mint" when my Mom mentioned it to me (she can really help me spend $)! However, I can't imagine cleaning over 1500 sq ft of dark hardwood floors w/o it! We have a white American Bulldog who tends to shed a lot! After the 1st go around w/ the "Mint" she really did not mind it! I simply start it before I go to work and come home to a nice clean floor. Charging it over night allows for it to go through our kitchen, living and dining room. However, it doesn't make it down the hall. I'm assuming it's out of range at that point. My only issue is that it tends to push dog hair into the edges of our area rug, but if all I have to do is vacuum around that and the bedrooms once a week I'm happy!!! I highly recommend the product.....it can't hurt to try it w/ a 20% off and great return policy:)

While this little robot is not perfect, the positive points greatly outweigh the negatives. It is super quiet, and appears to clean about 95+% of any debris on my hardwood and tile floors. The dry mop pads are reversible, but the wet mop ones are not. They simply need to be dunked and squeezed to be refreshed during cleaning. The Northstar navigation system works quite well but I haven't figured out a way to isolate sections of otherwise open areas.
Now for the bad: battery life leads a lot to be desired as does recharge time. I find I am having to rotate and parse out the cleaning tasks and plan charging while away from home or overnight. Kind of a pain, but then not as big a pain as mopping and scrubbing my floors by hand! All in all, if it holds up well (unfortunately it is made in China) I may well buy a second robot to lessen the impact of the poor battery performance.

I really like this little guy.
Coverage: I have a large living room with wood floors and a large kitchen with tile. My first concern was that Mint wouldn't be able to handle all the odd angles that make up these two rooms (a fireplace at a 45 degree angle and a bar on the opposite side at 45, an island in my kitchen). My second concern was that Mint would get stuck at the joining piece between the wood and tile. I shouldn't have been concerned... Mint did a really good job of navigating all the weird angles and getting underneath just about everything without ever getting stuck. Plus I think that it did a more comprehensive job than I would do, Mint can meticulously cover every inch of the room.
Sweeping power: I have a large lab and a fluffy long haired cat (i.e. coarse hair everywhere and floaty fluffs). Keep in mind that the Mint is simply a swiffer (i.e. don't expect it to do a better job than you with your own swiffer on a stick). That said, I was impressed and slightly horrified at how much dust and hair this little bugger picked up. The first time I ran it, I probably went through 8 dry pads (big room, lots of hair). After doing the dry mop, the wet mop does an ok job. It covers the room well enough but I find that swiffer wet works a little better with elbow grease. Mint will wet mop your room but you will most likely have to touch up a couple spots if you have a tougher dried-in stain.
Conclusion: For me it was worth the money. I got a big kick out of watching it for the first time, making sure that it covered all the nooks and crannies and how it went under and around furniture. The first time around you will have to watch it and will most likely use up a bunch of swiffer pads. Every time after that though, you will have more confidence in just letting it run on it's own and you'll go through fewer pads. I like the idea of being able to do other things while I'm simultaneously cleaning my floor. I do recommend removing and/or flipping chairs up off the floor, a little prep makes for a more efficient cleaning.

Fulltime working Mom of 19mth old, hardwood floors and laminate floors in my house, which need constant “swiffering” at least. My mom gave Mint for X-mas; so far it’s been terrific. Set it to work on the kitchen floor the night before last and dining room last night, while I sat of the couch watching a movie eating pie! Now you do have to make it some room, and sweeping up the big stuff like in the kitchen. When I used the water mop I sprayed a little cleaner on the floor but it worked quite well the floors were pretty bad, after holiday clean-up not exactly everyday mess. It’s not going to deep clean or get everything/where but hey it certainly gives me more time and that’s a blessing! I’ve only had it two days but so far it’s my new best friend!

First of all, this is NOT a vacuum. With that said, this machine will WIPE your floor. The cloth will pick up most dirt and that is it. So you will have to sweep before or after you use the machine. Which, I was looking for something that would take care of that for me. Instead I have to still do the work and then wait for this machine to wipe the floor.
If you are looking for an expensive wipe, this is it. If you are looking for a machine to really free you from sweeping and vacuuming then I would look for a different product.

There were too many places the Mint didn't get. If there was something too large for the cloth to pick up, the Mint just pushed the dirt up against the baseboards. The mopping function was OK if you only need light cleaning. I gave it 2 stars for the entertainment value of watching it work. This will be going back. It is basically an expensive swiffer.
