Still running

I forgot to mention I have had mine for 2 years now and have had no problems. I used it at least 2/3 times a week. As far as cleaning goes, there is a removable tray to get rid of fallen crumbs. If you are going to bake or toast something that might drip, use the baking tray underneath or place your food directly on it.

I have always wanted a toaster that perfects restaurants toast and this does it! Its slow toasting but I just find something else to prep while its running. The bake feature is great too. I can rely on it for products that say do not use toaster oven because this really heats up like an oven! Without the extreme heat coming off it of course :) I also love that it has a seperate toast knob and timer knob.

had this for maybe 6 months..first off unit runs hot... by about 50 degrees.. besides that the unit stopped staying on while trying to bake or broil something.. I would set it..walk away... 3 min later unit was turned off.. this also happened on broiler setting..just returned this unit.. I thought Kitchenaid made quality stuff..Not in my opinion.

I have had other mid-priced countertop ovens and I must say that $80 is a cheap price for such a useful and dependable product. we use ours multipule times a week. The first few uses we noticed a smell similar to melting plactis but that eventually stopped happening. We roast in it a lot but due to it's small capacity we have to turn the temp down on most recipies. Unless you need a larger oven this is cost efficient and reliable. I dont love the way it makes toast such as bread or an englich muffin but what countertop oven does?

I, too, wish I had read the reviews before we selected this for our wedding registry and received it as a gift. It's good looks and reputable brand name sucked us in, but don't be fooled. Half of the function of this appliance is to make toast, which it doesn't. I have not experienced any of these other horror stories (yet) but I am hoping we can return it. Standing around in my kitchen waiting for things to toast, (with setting on DARK only to have to return to at least a second cycle to actually see any difference in my waffles, bread, whatever.) is not the way I prefer to spend my busy mornings.

This is not a good toaster oven because it's impossible to clean, it gets too hot and burns everything, the glass in the front is stained after using for a couple of months... really not a good oven.

Dangerous Design

My experience was exactly the same as Auggie in NJ. Purchased in Jan. 2011. Was loving it until three weeks in, I used the broil setting for the first time, and the black plastic in the handle melted, ruining the oven. The used the oven precisely to the instructions, which happen to state that you must have the oven door closed when you broil. I intend to report this issue to the appropriate consumer products authorities as I think it is a fire hazard.

Such disappointment

Bought this KitchenAid toaster oven becausee of KitchenAide reputation. First time broiling and following the directions to a tee, the plastic on the door melted onto the housing of the unit. This was not just a scorch. There was about a 5 inch slice of melted plastic. Needless to say, it is going back today.
