Creme Brulee Torch Set

Don't wait until your next visit to a fancy restaurant for delicious gourmet desserts; make them right at home with this creme brulee torch. Torch allows you to caramelize the top of your creme brulee or even tarts without heating the filling. You can also brown Baked Alaska and other meringues, or heat and melt cheese for casseroles and lasagna. Torch has anti-flare flame and uses butane (not included). Set includes one torch and four 3-ounce porcelain ramekins.

More than a little disappointed

I should have read other reviews before I wasted the money. The ramekins are very small and the torch is no better than using a lighter. It does NOT come with butane, so another trip to the store was necessary :( Like others said, I think they should put somewhere on the box that additional supplies are required. It would be very embarrassing to try to serve dessert with this. Glad I tried it with the kids before I used it for company.

Google saved the day, not this!

I like how the online description of this says that the fuel is not included. Perhaps that is because if you buy this item in the store like I did, there is no mention of this anywhere on the box or even in the product insert and they received a lot of complaints? I bought this set thinking I was ready to make a special dessert on Christmas day and found out when it was too late that the fuel is not included. I googled what to do and learned that you can put the cups into the broiler and get the same result. Thanks Google! :) The dishes are also super small with this set. No part of this purchase was a good idea.

I too bought the set for the torch. The ramekins are a bonus (a small sized bonus but still a bonus!). The torch works great! Customer service was also very helpful when I bought the set as they asked me upfront if I wanted to also purchase a butane container which I did. Refilling the torch is easy and I have no complaints!

I bought this torch for various kitchen things like creme brulee, and marshmellows, and i have to say, im VERY pleased with my torch. To comment on some of the other rating, they are right, the ramekins do only hold three tablespoons, but that wasnt why i bought this set, it was for the torch itself so it was like a bonus getting the dished, even if they are small. And yes, it doesnt come with the butane, but it DOES say that it isnt included on the side where it talks about how to refill it. If you go to the store to buy this, you dont need to leave to find the butane. They sell a somewhat large container for $8 at the customer service area. I love this item and its so much fun!!

The butane cartridge can be purchased at any grocery store. I have several protable one burner stoves I use as a caterer which I use to operate them. I purchased both at a local grocery store.

The previous poster was right -- the dishes hold exactly 3 tablespoons. The dessert would be gone in three bites. What a joke.

Disappointing

Nowhere on the box does it say that you have to buy a gas cartridge separately. I asked the clerk if it came with the gas, and she didn't know. We spent about five minutes trying to figure it out and concluded that it must because nothing on the box or the inside instructions indicated that gas is sold separately. Heck, even toy packaging says "batteries not included." I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known the set was not complete. The last thing I need now is to drive from store to store trying to find a gas cartridge.

Perfect for my uses

I purchased this torch to make S'mores on a stick (http://tinyurl.com/3ncuux9.) I knew from a previous reviewer to buy the Bernzomatic 5.5 oz. Butane Refill from Home Depot and it worked like a charm. I didn't have any problem with the flame going out (though I wasn't using it at any strange angles,) and I had plenty of fuel without refilling to toast a whole bag of marshmallows.
I do agree with others that it would be really nice if there was a window so you could see how much butane is in it, but it turns out, for my projects, I don't think it'll be a problem.
Nothing fancy, but certainly got the job done for my purposes!

Get The Other Torch

This torch is fine, as long as you hold it upright. The moment you turn it or tilt it in any direction, the flame goes out. Plus, there is no fuel level indicator, so you just have to guess how much is in the barrel. I exchanged it yesterday for the Bonjour Professional Torch.

A Great gift

My daughter gave my husband the Creme Brulee set for Christmas and we made Creme brulee last night.
It was fun to use the butane torch and we took pictures. It's a nice set, the dishes are a bit small and the caramelizing Sugar is barely enough. So we bought a pack of Dr. Oetker Classic Creme Brulee mix and used some of our bigger creme brulee dishes as well. The butane to fill the torch we found quite easily. Looking forward to using this gift again.

Not Happy

Got as a gift - I have another torch that is much higher quality than this one, and the dishes are only 3 oz capacity - that's only 3 tablespoons filled to the very top. I'd be incredibly embarrassed to serve a guest creme brulee in these dishes. This set is going to be exchanged for something else.

Hesitant Recommendations - Incomplete Product

Received this off of our wedding registry 2 years ago and finally got around to using it today for some homemade creme brulee. Unfortunately, the fact that it is by no means a 'complete kit' totally threw the cooking plans off. This type of requirement should be MUCH more clear on both the outside of the package as well as with details inside.
In order to use the torch you must purchase a butane refill. This sucker was tough to track down but we ended up finding one that works at Home Depot. We used the BernzOmatic 5.5 oz. Butane Refill.
One filled (tricky to gauge filled-ness), it did work like a charm, so long as it remained facing forward and not tipped (tricky when you're doing something flat).
Overall i was not very impressed by this set, but time will tell whether it was a worthwhile investment now that we've worked out the kinks.
