Makes pizza better!

I looked at several pizza stones before deciding on the Oneida. What I liked was the large size, it was round (vs. square), came with a stand (that none of the other ones I looked at included) and the price was right. It's true what you've heard about cooking on a pizza stone. Pizza tastes better (it simulates cooking in a brick oven). Just put the stone in the oven while its preheating and pop your pizza on when it's ready. The metal stand keeps the stone off a table or counter, while the stone keeps your pizza warm. The instructions say to just use warm water to wash the stone, but I had to use baking soda to get stubborn food off. Also, the stone becomes stained over time, which doesn't affect cooking, and though is cosmetic is why I didn't give the Oneida stone 5 stars. Though I'd still recommend it.

I loved this stone. However, after less than a year it randomly cracked right in half. I should have returned, but we just tossed it and decided to buy a new one later as they are inexpensive.

dont listen to any of the reviews of people who can't read. you're supposed to let it heat in the oven and use a pizza peel - i mean how else do real pizzeria's put their pies in the oven?
anyway i took off one star because i just broke mine due to a frozen pizza on it. the manufacture website didnt have anything about frozen pizzas but regardless, i still made a number of pizzas on the stone before i cracked it
maybe it's not meant for frozen pizzas, which then means i'll need to get a stainless steel one...

My husband and I love this stone. It is so easy to use and clean. We used to use corn meal on it in the beginning but now it does not need it. Will be buying another one for our basement.

Stone works great

I made an account just to go against all the dumb reviews about this stone. Some people complained the pizza stuck to the stone. That's because they didnt pre-heat the stone. Why not read the directions before using it. Someone gave it zero stars because it was too hot when it was preheated. Well go buy a pizza peel, this does not claim to include one and works as it says. Some people complained about the smell. The directions say to heat the stone for a period of time before the first use to clear any chemicals. Some people complained about the stone cracking. Dont heat the stone when wet, or soak in water. Basically all of the bad reviews are from idiots who did not read the instructions. I have made well over 50 pizzas with this stone and can proudly say that it is a quality product that I would recommend to anyone. Please, before writing a bad review stop and think, is the product bad, or am I just an idiot.

Really was excited to recieve this off my bridal registry but turned out to be annoying and terrible! I do not like the fact that you have to heat the stone and then put the pizza on...can be hard when you didnt know a pizza peel would be needed. Returning this product tomorrow.

My main problem with it was that it had a horrible smell when I heated it in my oven. I wish I had read other reviews before getting it for my wedding!

We like the stone

The stone has worked well for us. We put it in the cold oven and preheat it to 450. We also put cornmeal on the bottom, but no oil. I can suggest making your pizzas on a parchment sheet and then putting them in the oven just like that. Its so easy, they slide off the stone when done no problem and are just as crispy. My only issue is that the stone is not large enough, especially if we have friends over, so we are thinking about getting a rectangle too. We have had it awhile and no cracking problem

Disappointing

I registered for this as a wedding gift and have been sorely disappointed with it since purchase. It never yields a crispy crust, even when all directions are followed. More concerning is the fact that whenever I preheat the stone, a strong chemical odor seems to spread from the oven through my house. I thought it may fade away after use but I have used the stone many times and the odor still happens.

me and my wife we're excited when we got our pizza stone from oneida at bed bath and beyond. we did everything right we preheated the oven used corn meal on top and we cooked our frozen pizza for 20 minutes. when we took the pizza out the top was crispy but the bottom of the pizza was soggy and had no crispy crust at all. so we gave it another shot and bought another pizza to see if it would work better if we preheated it at 400 degrees for 15 minutes then put the pizza pie on top. after cooking it for another 20 minutes we came with the same results as last time with a soggy bottom. i wouldn't recommend this to anyone. hopefully i can get some sort of refund unfortunately i threw the box away because i thought this would be a useful cooking tool, except it seems like it'll be just some extra piece of junk just laying around. If i can't get a refund somehow it'll just head straight into the trash. what a shame :-(

A Piece of Junk

This is an inferior product and I'm glad it cracked and had to be thrown away. I had a trusty pizza/baking stone for 12 years that cracked (it was used extensively), so I purchased this one because it was a similar size. From the first use, pizzas tended to stick--my technique was the same for the previous stone with no sticking. After 4 uses, thankfully the stone cracked while cooling in the oven after it was used. The stone was thin and not the same quality as the one I purchased 12 years before at Costco.

Stuck like glue

Tried pizza stone for the first time. Heated it as directed and then placed my pizza on it. When pizza was finished cooking it was stuck to the stone like glue. I practically had to chisel it off. Most of the pizza went in the garbage. Not very happy as I was hoping I could make more healthy pizza at home than i can get at local pizza shop.

I love this...now that I know how to use it. My first attempt was a disaster, dough stuck all over the stone. But I found out that I need to preheat the stone. I have used this enough now that I just preheat the stone and put the pizza dough right on the stone and it slides right off when done. And for those of you that crack your stones, place your stone in the oven then preheat to 450 degrees.

I have no idea how to use the handle accessory--it doesn't seem to slide right to be able to get the stone on and off easily--but the stone itself works great. Made my first pizza, and it was amazing!

Burnt crust

I got this pizza stone for Christmas because I read a number of reviews giving it a thumb's up. I tried it for the first time yesterday and I got a burnt pizza crust that I and my husband could hardly scrape off the stone. It soaked in grease, which I'm afraid will get in to my other cooking--just as the stone said don't use soap because the food might taste like it later.
...Kind of bummed about this---I was hoping for more.

I love this pizza stone

I had never had a pizza stone before this, and I don't know how I lived without it! It probably gets used twice a week and is holding up really well. I haven't had any problems with it, and it is seasoning nicely. To those who were scrubbing it back to white: why? Like cast iron, you're not supposed to use soap. Let it get ugly and it'll work better!
The handles seem a little unnecessary, but I'd rather have a superfluous accessory than not receive one that I need. This pizza stone is a steal!

I have used ceramic pizza stones for decades. This is JUNK. I bought "Oneida" brand stone at a local supermarket. TWICE I bought it. Each time after buying I used only twice. After the second bake it will crack in two with ever removing from the oven. It is thin for one, but "made in China" states it all.

This pizza stone is outstanding. Properly seasoned and using corn meal (be sure to put the corn meal on it after it is preheated just before you put the pizza on it) and you will be very pleased.
Cleaning it by only rinsing the cold stone and scraping with a nylon scrapper (BB&B sells these for 99-cents) or in a pinch the edge of a metal spatula (scrape across the stone like a squeegee) has never been an issue. Your stone will turn a golden brown over time and will show discoloration variation, but this is not an issue.
The trick that learned over time is how to slide the pizza onto the hot stone. (I have not tried "building" the pizza on the hot stone, I've always slid the pizza after I have placed the sauce and toppings.)
