Great for baking Dog Treats!

I came across this mat when I was researching dog treat recipes on the web. Someone had pictures of it with dog treats cut out on it. What a great idea! It was perfect for rolling out the dough. No flour needed, so my counter tops stayed cleaner. I ended up buying a 2nd one so I could have two pans baking at once. Out to buy my 3rd one, so I can keep rolling and cutting the dough before baking!

I've used the same two mats many years and I do quite a bit of baking. I wouldn't think of using any others. When my sister was in town she saw me using them and said, "I want those for Christmas!" and she is getting them!
One of the BEST kitchen tools I have used.

Careful with Utensils!

This works great for cookies, chocolates, and other baking items as long as you use PLASTIC UTENSILS. Mine got severed in places when we weren't careful enough with sharp-edged metal utensils.

does what it says. no sticking, and don't need to grease the baking sheet. cooks more evenly than parchment paper to avoid sticking. i've never had fraying or funny smells. wonder if that review got a bad one. just wish it were a teeny bit longer (like 2 cm) and ever so slightly more narrow (1 cm) to fit perfectly in the jelly roll pan. (i prefer jelly roll pan to no edge cookie sheet.)

I received this as a shower present, and I didn't know that much about it. But after using it a few times, I can't imagine baking without it. Now I know why all of the professionals use Silpat!

Just don't broil it...

My fiancee got this for me 3 years ago as part of my birthday or Christmas gift (don't judge ladies, he saw me eyeing it up at the store and knew I would never spend the money on it). I love it. It has a weird texture to it when you handle it and I always wind up thinking I didn't get it clean but that's just the texture of the silicone. My only recommendation is not to use it under the broiler. I got this idea in my head to try to broil bacon (don't ask) and was hoping to have an easy cleanup with the silpat to catch the grease... BAD IDEA. After many scrubbings, it is now just a tiny bit discolored where there was a burn issue. Oh well, even after that debacle it performs wonderfully.

Excellent piece of equipment

While the non-stick aspect is great, what is undersold is the non-burn nature of these mats. I am not a scientist, but it seems that the mat provides some thermal insulation from the pan, giving you even browning on the top AND bottom of your baked goods. Nothing (not even the Airbake pans) comes close to the perfect even top/bottom baking.

No need for parchment paper or foil - EVER!

My original reason for this purchase was due to the fact I like to bake cookies, and this product seemed like it might help. Let me tell you, this thing is seriously NON-stick! It doesn't need to be oiled or anything, just wash, dry, and use! Now, I have come to find that I can use it practically every time I use my oven! I bake desserts on it, fresh and frozen pizzas, just about anything that requires a baking sheet. I even place it in the bottom of my brownie pan to keep them from sticking - all you do is flip the brownies upside down and peel off the mat. Oh, and it may seem like it has a steep price, but think of the money you will save by not buying aluminum foil, parchment paper, and cooking spray just to name a few. No more scrubbing the sticky, baked on residue that cooking spray leaves on your pans either! Very easy to clean as well. I also like the fact that I by using this product I am not being so wasteful. I've had mine about a year and it's still kicking. Just be sure you DO NOT use anything that can cut, scratch or poke the mat. Once you break through the silicone the mat isn't any good, so be sure to use plastic or silicone utensils on it and you won't have any issues. For instance, after purchasing my first mat and cooking a pizza, I took the pan out of the oven and sliced up the pizza (and mat) with a pizza cutter. Now, I just slide the cooked pizza off the mat and onto a serving plate or cutting board. I plan on getting a few more mats soon for holiday baking!
You MUST get one to try - I promise you will LOVE it :)

I am about to purchase my third set of these mats. Lest you think they wear out quickly; I use them constantly and rotate them so that I can keep a set of pans in the oven while I am filling another set. Excellent purchase!
