Great Until Pedal Breaks

We've had this trash can for 2 years and it's served us well until a week ago. The size is good and streamlined, the lid works great and is quiet as advertised, and it works well for a family with pets and kids. Its color and finish keep it looking clean on the outside. However, our pedal mechanism just broke -- we discovered that the plastic pin holding it in place has snapped off and there's no good way to repair it. The product's cost is high for having to replace it just 2 years later (as a previous reviewer said, who really keeps such a receipt for 2+ years? I think I will this time!). We'll probably buy a version with similar features but stronger pedal mechanism and save the receipt this time around.

Worth Every Penny

We bought this trash can after multiple trash can failures. I love that it holds a regular tall size kitchen trash bag, and there is no weird suction that keeps the bag stuck in the can when you try to remove it like one of the other cans we tried.
It is heavy enough to not tip over, but light enough to pick up and move easily. The foot pedal works great, even 1 year later after we bought it.
With a toddler in the house that is obsessed with throwing things away, the lid lock is priceless. The lid can even be left open when needed.
The colors available are great and blend in with our decor. We are so pleased with our trash can!

Dumping disappointment

I purchased this trash can in the spring of 2009. The stepping mechanism stopped working about six months ago. Of course we tried to fix it. Found a piece had broken off. This is 2011. Think the five year warranty will be honored now? Who has a receipt two years later, let alone know which charge card was used. Too much money for a failure.

This trash can has many great qualities. It holds a lot, you can use regular kitchen trash bags and it's sturdy plastic so it costs much less than a stainless trash can. However, it's so lightweight that when it is not mostly full when you step on the pedal to open it, it tips forward. It seems like it will fall over on you, but then stops itself and lurches back. This is so annoying! For $40 I shouldn't have to buy a bunch of bricks to put in the bottom of it to hold it steady. I definitely would not buy this trash can again.

Step trash cans aren't usually raved about, however, this one is really one to rave about. It opens with just a slight touch of your foot, has ample room for a full size paper bag, quietly closes by itself; can be easily left wide open, if needed, and has a lock to prevent small children or large dogs from getting to the trash inside. It is attractive to look at, and is made to last a long time - even has a 5 year warranty!
