"Professional" in name only

That is the best description that I found on another blog. I do not bake every day, but do a lot when the holidays roll around. The first time I burned my KA out, the "Authorized Factory Repair Center" (AFRC) informed me that "this is not the same machine since Whirlpool took them over in 1986." When it burned out again nine months later, the same AFRC informed me that they had received a memo from KA telling them that the fusible link they changed the first time was of inferior quality and had been replaced by one made in the USA and was much stronger. However, I still had to pay for the repair - again. This Thanksgiving it burned out again. I assure you, I have worked in a professional kitchen with my father who was a chef and take pride in how I take care of my equipment, so it has never been abused! (The AFRC even commented the first time how it looked like a new machine). I was making a version the THEIR recipe for mashed potatoes, but mine calls for more liquid. Because of its history, I first mashed them by hand and then put them in the mixer to get out the smaller lumps, but it still burned out. I then learned that KA does NOT support any repairs made by their AFRC - only work done by them in Ohio. A supervisor did offer to send me the Shipping Kit for free for their factory to look at it. All it needed was, well - everything! A complete re-build for a cost of 193.00. Nobody at KA could explain why my little, 25+ year old, hand-held Farberware beater could finish the job that killed their "Professional" machine. I also learned that KA makes TWO different lines: a residential/professional one and a commercial one. If you do a lot of baking and want a reliable mixer, I suggest you go for the 7 Qt. Commercial NSF rated model. I found one for about three dollars LESS than the 549.00 cost of the Residential one. If you don't need that strong of a mixer, you can save a lot by buying a less expensive machine than the KA. You are paying for a name that is not the same product that was made by Hobart.

I have this mixer and mix large batches of Cookie Dough every week to take to bake at our Open Houses. Also do a massive amount of baking for holiday gifts. It is a work horse and has been a lifesaver! Bought one for my son that is a Pastry Chef in SF for a 2-Star Michellin rated restaurant. He took it to the restaurant and they are using it in their daily bread & dessert making. It has been going strong for him & his other chefs for the past 3 years(although they have overheated it a few times-but that's being used in a commercial operation!) still it has worked super! He's very happy with his too!

I received my Kitchen Aid Mixer as a gift 29 years ago. The best appliance in my home and is the most reliable one. I have never had one problem ever, wait I am lying.... The little button/ screw on the front/ top of the mixer every now and then, maybe once a year, pops off. It simply comes loose, probably from over use. I can not say one bad word and absolutely love it. I do not understand these people writing bad reviews. Perhaps they are rough and caused a problem. This product is so well constructed only the consumer could cause a problem with this mixer by abusing it. There are far more positive reviews than negative one and also some people just love to complain and hear themselves. The Kitchen Aid Mixer is a wonderful product.... Don't let a few sour apples turn you away.

I owned a smaller model of the bowl lift design by Kitchenaid for about 20 years and it was fantastic. I ordered the larger 6qt design due to some of my recipes are not only larger in quantity, but I needed a heavier motor for mixing. I've had this Professional 600 series for a couple of years now, and I love it! My daughter even insists on this mixer when she gets married!

I was not happy to see that bad reviews here, so i decided to write myself.First i had this mixer from 6 years and never had any problem with it .It is expensive, but very helpful for serious bakers. If you follow the instruction manual you cant go wrong! You can not mix heavy dough on high setting, because you can overheat machine. Beating white eggs on setting 10 works perfect, quick and you can have double amount than when you are using standard mixer.I Can see how big difference is when I am making cheesecake using this mixer, cake is more fluffy and so delicate ! Also i purchased another bowl, which i need when my recipe call for beating white eggs in same time. 6 quarter is perfect for me when i'm making big batch of waffles and than frozen them.I am using this machine a lot, it is professional, I also have separate attachments like pasta maker, which is good and fun.Yes this mixer is loud, but only powerful machine can be loud right?Very recommend for everybody, when u get this you ll start bake a lot !

I have wanted a KitchenAid Professional mixer forever and this past Christmas (2011) my husband bought me one. By early March, the dough hook and beater were scraping the bowl. I tried to adjust the bowl height as instructed in the manual, but it did not help. The whole gearbox seems to be locked up now and it is totally useless. I am so disappointed, I could cry and based on the reviews regarding this product, I am just going to return. I don't even want to try another one.

Disposable Mixer. Bad Kitchenaid Customer Service.

Bought this product for the KitchenAid name--have since learned my lesson. Product lasted two years being used barely to half capacity, then the gears just stopped working. When I contacted Kitchenaid, they surprised me by really not caring an ounce. They would not help me an iota because it was beyond warranty--unless I'd shell out more money to them to fix it. They even tried to make is sound like it was my fault. They claimed that the 14 cup maximum is INCLUDING all ingredients, when their manual clearly says you can use recipes that call for 14 cups of flour (ASIDE from all the other ingredients). When I told them that, they quickly changed tact. Said I was probably leaving it running too long...I have a Cuisinart that I use super-heavily, and have never had a problem with that in years. If you're looking for a product that isn't disposable--and if you'd like the company you're buying from to care about what happens to you even after the 1 year warranty--I'd recommend avoiding this product, and Kitchenaid.

Best of the Best

My beloved KitchenAid Classic stand mixer finally went to that Great Kitchen in the Sky after 21 years of doing yeoman's service. I researched the best replacement and decided on this brand and model based on the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated and my always positive experience with KitchenAid appliances and their customer service. Today my new mixer made its inaugural batch of bread dough.
Some comments here have mentioned how noisy it is, but it is quieter and has far less vibration than my former KA mixer.
One comment mentioned not being able to knead bread dough at speed 4, but if you read the manual, this mixer is designed for making breads, and speed 2 is the optimal speed for that purpose.
I am 100% happy with my new mixer and have faith that it will meet or exceed the life of my previous model.

Absolute Junk DO NOT BUY!,

I do not know what happened to Kitchenaid in recent years but their quality has gone downhill BADLY.
My wife and I purchased the Kitchenaid "Professional" 600 mixer a couple of years ago. In the first six months it overheated while mixing a 6 cup pizza dough recipe and shut down. This was WELL under the maximum cups it claims to handle. After about 30 minutes it started working again. It has never sounded right since then. We talked to kitchenaid about the problem but because it was running their wasnt much they would do.
Fast forward a couple of years and today the gearbox fell out that holds the mixing tool. I talked to Kitchenaid support about this issue and they informed me that they would gladly help by sending me a box to return it in and then bill me for the box and the return shipping. THEN I would have to pay $25 for a diagnostic fee and at that point I would be notified how much it would actually cost to fix it.
Low quality, short life-span for a $400 mixer that got used about 2 times a month.

When this first came out I was extremely excited. My mother has the 5-Quart she got from her mother over 10 years ago and it works like a charm. I was so happy to receive my first one for Christmas and the next day went to make bread. Not only did it not get anything from the bottom of the bowl, it was super noisy. It takes a while to change gears (which I don't mind too much) and kept making a grating noise. I went to the manual and apparently it's not for making breads. If you attach the dough hook on any gear above 2 it will burn the motor out. I may not know everything about baking but I have worked with a pastry chef for two years and I know that these problems lie not within the dough but the machine.
Waste of a hefty chunk of change.

Leaks Oil in three places

I bought this mixer believing it would be the last stand mixer I would ever need. I had longed for one for years. Finally, I bought it. Well, it leaks oil from three different places. There are reviews all over the internet about the problem yet KitchenAid's response was (1) buy a shipping kit for $36 and send it back to them and pay to have it fixed (yes, it is out of warranty by four years)., (2) take it to a local authorized repair center and pay to have it fixed or (3) buy a rebuilt one directly from them for about $300. KitchenAid, why won't you admit that there is a problem. I use my mixer often, I don't keep it near heat, the lubricant on the motor should not be separating and leaking out. Because I keep the quilted cover on my mixer when not it use, the cover is full of oil too, not to mention the two weeks that I kept it in a cabinet and now the bottom of the cabinet stained with oil that soaked into the wood.
Make it Right KitchenAid!

My husband bought me this because I out grew my 5qt. I love it the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because it does make more noise than my old one. I never have had a problem with the bottom of the bowl not getting mixed, maybe the previous reviewer didn't make the adjustment right. I plan on purchasing the smaller bowl available for small batches, only because it will be easier to handle. If you love to bake this is the mixer for you. It will cut your time in the kitchen considerably. but if you only bake a cake or a batch of brownies once in a while don't bother it will be too much mixer for you. This is for a serious baker only

Not up to expectations

My KA of 25 years bit the dust, so I upgraded to their top model since I make large batches of breads. It does not beat small amounts however. I put an egg white in to beat, wouldn't touch it, just beat above it. Put in 2 blocks of butter, just barely beat the center and whipped the rest of the butter on to the sides of the bowl so it couldn't be whipped like it should be for cookie dough. Wrote KA.com people and they told me how to do the adjustment calibration and it still wouldn't do the job. Will have to go down to the 5 quart bowl Artisan series so I won't have to scrape the sides of the bowl or beat the egg whites with a hand mixer separately.

I have owned the kitchenaid professional for 4yrs. now.I was on the bb&beyond site looking for an addition bowl. I could not believe the bad reviews my pro 600 got. I love my machine. I have made many loaves of bread using the dough hook ,not to mention countless cake batters, brownie mixes, and cookie doughs. Never have I had and problems with my mixer. It does make noise when in use but,no more then any hand mixer I've used.

I bought this mixer in January and it makes a strange noise that was not present in the previous mixer that I owned (the previous one was a 20 year old kitchenaid). I am going to return it and replace it with the proline series in hopes that it will work correctly. I have only used it less than 10 times since my purchase and am quickly realizing that products aren't made like they used to be. It also does a terrible job of getting the ingredients at the bottom of the bowl, I have to scrape the bowl more frequently than I would like to while mixing (sometimes up to 4 or five times for a simple brownie recipe). The proline is supposed to come with a better attachment for this

My fourth one in 16 months has quit again. Bed, Bath and Beyond. have been kind enough to give us a new one each time, but my husband said "NO more".
They have all quit on me when I am mashing potatoes. I assume it is the steam, but who knows. I wish I could get some response about the matter of the problem. BB&B gives a full refund, but I have no mixer now. I don't even know what to get. I have the attachments for the Kitchenaid. I had the classic mixer for 20 yrs. Gave it to my niece and she is still using it. This particular model has some major issues. They sound bad, too. Alot of grinding noises. I would like a big mixer, because we do large quantities at a time. I would like to know if anybody else has had problems with this mixer. There is no reviews.
