After spending six months dreading whether to buy mortar and pestle, what kind should I buy.....looking on the internet for them finally I decided to give this a shot. Went to the store opened the package felt the inside of the mortar....it is rough and unfinished....ideal for grinding spices. Just finished grinding cumin , black pepper, cinnamon for veg. pilaf and it is amazing. It can grind spices to very fine powdery form ......just like store bought consistency or maybe even better. Green chillies can be ground to a very fine paste for chutney. I think I am gonna use it everyday.

This is my first mortar and pestle and it's great! It's not big, but perfect for beginner uses. Will upgrade to a larger one after I get the hang of this one. Price was perfect and it's really heavy and durable.

I thought that mortar and pestles were hard to use, messy, and time consuming. Nope! It turns out mine just sucks! I used this one at my brother's house, and it effortlessly reduced allspice and fennel seeds to a fine powder.

My husband and I received this as a wedding gift, and I think he likes it even more than I do. It's one of the prettiest kitchen items we have, and it works beautifully as well. It has a very thick base but a sizable basin, which we use primarily to crush mint for mojitos (his favorite part of making them). It's easy to clean and weighs more than you might expect.

I was so happy to receive this from my bridal registry. I use it to mash up herbs from my garden, and spices too. It helps to bring out their flavor. This mortar and pestle is solid- very heavy and durable. It's heavy weight really helps mash stuff quickly and easily. It cleans easily with water and I use a little white vinegar as well (I don't want to use soap in case the marble absorbs it). The marble is an absolutely beautiful shade of green with a little gray and black in the stone as well. It is gorgeous on the counter or on a shelf. A real showpiece all its own, and at a great price!
