Buying it again!

I have had both my attachment and mixer for 17 years and both have served me well. The main part of the attachment has been cracked for a couple of years and finally shredded its last pound of cheese.

Shortly after buying, I realized that I needed a small tool with a couple of wrench sizes in my gadget drawer (which is just handy in the kitchen for many purposes) to change out or remove blade from the other little piece that turns it. Honestly, it's never been a big deal to grab a anti-slip pad to hold blade and use a wrench to detach. I have always put the various pieces in the dishwasher without a problem. I am glad that I still have my blades that have never rusted should that be an issue with the new blades.

I have had this attachment for almost 2 years and use it weekly to shred cheese and I love it! Last week I used it to shred vegetables for the first time and it worked wonderfully for that too. I can't wait to try it out to slice potatoes. I have had problems with rusting, but am going to try oiling the blades. Like others have mentioned, the first couple times I used it I had a hard time removing the blades but that is no longer a problem.

I love thsi slicer/shreader attachment. Some people say they have a hard time removing the blades. Just stand it on the counter and use a 11mm wrenth to tighten and loosen the blades easy to remove,

Handy Addition to my Kitchen

I was considering buying a food processor, but space is an issue in my small kitchen. I already have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer so I had the thought to look for an attachment. This really is a handy attachment. I've used it on both cheese and vegetables. The only issue is that the post that attaches the drum to the white plastic part can be VERY difficult to remove. In fact, I had to raid the tool box to find something that would unlock the mechanism. The instructions say that the parts can go in the dishwasher but I have always hand washed all of my Kitchen Aid parts. I usually let this attachment soak in hot soapy water for a while and that takes care of any stuck-on leftovers.

I love my KA and shamelessy put every attachment possible on our wedding registry just in case people wanted to indulge me and get them for us. I was thrilled to get this. The blades themselves should not go in the dishwasher despite the instructions saying they are dishwasher safe--I put them in, but am already seeing where it might rust so I hand dried and will have to wash by hand from now on. The plastic attachment part, however, did just fine in the dishwasher. I've only used once for shredding potatoes for hash browns, and it worked well. I can't speak to the slicer yet, but I'm so excited to find something that works quickly to shred. My KA food processor has the shredding and slicing blades but I've never been able to get them to work well. Even if the slicer doesn't work well, I'm happy enough with the shredder, which worked great with potatoes. I can't wait to try other things like cheese.

I use this a lot to slice potatoes and to shred cheese. Yes, sometimes it is hard to remove the blades so I reattach them to the mixer which makes it much easier to take apart.....

I received the shredder attachment for my birthday, next day used it to slice potatoes for a casserole. The slicing was great, I have no complaint about the way it actually worked. However, the slicer and the base piece are now stuck together, neither my husband or I can get them seperated. So, while I can still slice things, I can't use if for anything else, and frankly, it's alot less work to get out the mandolin to slice things.

I have had the attachments since 1998 and love them!!! I cook and bake all the time and grating cheese or zuchinni is so easy with these attachments! I highly reccomend them! They are so easy to clean, just put in the dishwaher!

I love my kitchen aid shredder/cutter attachments. In fact I am sad to say that i do not use my food processor very often. My husband fights to shred all veggies and cheeses when we need some. Its an awesome product. I do not put my rotor blads in the dishwasher to prevent rusting.

I am so unhappy with this product. I was getting a mixer for my bridal shower, ive been dreaming a kitchen aid mixer forever now and excited I finally got one and wanted to ask for some accessories. It sliced very poorly, stinks of oil even after washings. When in use the attached gets caught on the base and I am not strong enough to detatch---so I have to wait for my fiance to be home to take it off so I can switch blades or Im stuck with slicing everything with one shredder attachment. I cannot wait to return....

This is a terrible waste of $. The attachments do nothing that the kitchenaid food processor cannot do better. The metal attachments began to rust after the first wash, even though the instructions state that they are dishwasher safe. Also the slicing attachments do not slice food so much as mush it. They do grate cheese well, but now the shaft will not detach from the grating cone and it is completely useless. I love my kitchenaid mixer very much, but this attachment is not worth your money.

My Mom had one of these when I was growing up and we used it all of the time, so naturally when my fiancé and I got engaged I put it on our registry. He was skeptical until showed him how to use it. Now he wants to grate cheese for everything with it! It is very easy to use and the clean up is minimal.
